Well the end of 2012 is drawing to a close and we've run down the albums that got the most play around RSTB this year. To avoid the list just being a mass of Ty Segall albums Twins (a personal fave of the bunch) takes the place on the list but the other two would have easily made the list, especially the collab with White Fence which got plenty of play around here as well. Some really great releases this year and a banner year for both Drag City and Sacred Bones with some heavy inclusions in our list. [...]
Incoming: Social Distortion, Graham Parker, John Cale, Atlas Genius, Chris Isaak, the Game, the Sword, Alt-J, the Tragically Hip, the Growlers, JMSN, Public Enemy, the Doobie Brothers, Jessie Ware, Cass McCombs, King Tuff, NOFX, Dead Sara, Vaud & the Villains, Agent Orange, The Weeknd, the Aquabats, DeVotchKa, Vanaprasta, Aloe Blacc, Harry Shearer and Judith Owen, Bleached, Stevie Wonder, Anthony Green, Ozomatli, Ty Segall, Mayer Hawthorne, People Under the Stairs, Dave Koz and Kenny Loggins Above: The Weeknd plays the Orpheum on Saturday in [...]
And now, the end is nigh. We tug away a little more at Sinatra's bloody red curtain, and unveil the penultimate ten in our Tracks of 2012 series. Saying it clear and stating that case of which we're certain, in our combined mind few MP3s and other assorted ones bettered the below, which this time encompasses entries born Under the Westway, drifted in from Japan, spawned in New York, and oozed Raclette-like out of Switzerland. The Avalanches also finally found it in themselves to return – and did so with a disconcertingly calm Silver Jew in the trim shape [...]
King Tuff added his two cents to the recently released and already sold out Burger Records' The Wiener Dog Comp. For his part the King covered a track from the 1986 animated movie An American Tail, where a mouse and his mouse family immigrate from Russia to the US. Well his royal Highness, Tuff, got out his casio keyboard and puts his stonerific spin on Somewhere Out There. Check it out
King Tuff may claim to be a "bad, bad, bad thing" on one of the best songs of the year , but even the reigning patriarch of deliciously sleazy rock'n'roll has a soft spot for a cute dachshund. The man otherwise known as Kyle Thomas participated in Burger Records' recent (sold-out!) The Wiener Dog Comp , and his contribution has just surfaced online (via Stereogum ) An American Tail is a classic 1986 animated film by Don Bluth (and executive produced by Steven Spielberg) [...]
The first week in our 2012 Annual Report has come to an end. But what an end it is: our Top 50 Songs of 2012. For this list, we took into consideration the tracks that not only spoke to the year, but each respective act's ability to grow and engage their mind, genre, and sound. That might sound spiritual and what have you, but okay, maybe you're not a fan of dreamcatchers and stuff. Whatever. Feel free to let us know what you think, including some tracks you'll take into 2013 with you. Also, stay tuned [...]
Burger Records has put together another compilation benefiting a cuddly wuddly animal. If you recall, the Fullerton, CA label previously released The Kitty Comp to pay for a stray kitten's surgery. Now they've back with a new compilation to aid Popcorn the Dachshund , who needs surgery to remove a growth from her belly. If you're already tearing up, it's totally fine and just proves you're a good and decent human being. The Wiener Dog Comp is comprised of two tapes of 71 unreleased [...]
Riding the wave of their eponymous album’s success, garage rock outfit King Tuff will play The New Parish in Oakland tomorrow night . The Vermont-turned-L.A. based band’s album has been raved about for its layered rock sound. The way singer Kyle Thomas’s airy-almost-nasally vocals mesh with the serious riffs on songs like “Bad Thing” show that this band (thankfully) isn’t too concerned with the checklist of most garage rock bands. Also playing are Terry Malts, Warm Soda, and Sam Flax. Tickets are still available, and it's King Tuff’s only Bay Area [...]
Put another dime in the jukebox… baby. The Sheepdogs: The Sheepdogs The Sheepdogs play the kind of scruffy, four-legged, round-up-the-flock classic rock and roll that’s totally worthy of their namesake breed. This is old school, bluesy, song-driven Southern rock and roll that was made to fuel long road trips and late night beer drinking, like the Allmans back when there were still more than one of ‘em in the band (by way of Saskatoon!), this is the real deal. [...]
METZ at Knitting Factory earlier this month ( more by Fred Pessaro // BBG ) The new-ish free bi-monthly Converse Rubber Tracks series at Music Hall of Williamsburg, which began in June with White Rabbits , continued in August with Action Bronson , and again in October with Ghostface Killah and A-Trak , will continue on December 19 at MHOW with its most rockin' edition yet: King Tuff, METZ, Sean Bones, and Devin . The show is free but you can pick up [...]

Tonight in Music: King Tuff, Shy Girls
King Tuff - Screaming Skull by SubPop KING TUFF, WHITE FANG, MEAN JEANS ( Doug Fir , 830 E Burnside) The glittery, punky pop of King Tuff is better than any sugar rush, and lasts much longer. With rock-solid bass, speedy drums, and guitars dripping with amplifier fuzz, Tuff and his band make good, old-fashioned rock 'n' roll sound better—and feel better—than anyone else around. King Tuff – “Somewhere Out There” (Fievel The Mouse Cover)
" Somewhere Out There " is the big weepy-ballad centerpiece of the 1986 Don Bluth animated movie An American Tale , and it's been stuck in my head pretty much nonstop since 1986. Apparently, snot-rock warrior King Tuff can relate. Tuff contributed a surprisingly low-in-snark cover of the song to The Wiener Dog Comp , a benefit cassette compilation, now sold-out, that raised money for an ailing dachshund named Popcorn. Hear it below; thanks to Michael_ for the tip. Read More...

Top Albums of 2012: 100-51
It's really hard to narrow down a list of Top Albums of 2012, especially when you have four contributors with different opinions. We gave the reins to Nathan.Lankford and Nicole Baumann on this one, since they write the majority of the album reviews, but we all have a little representation within this. Now, we do realize that our site has specialized tastes, so please realize that these are our OPINIONS . You're welcome to disagree, and, in fact, we encourage that process. Also, we're doing a Top 100 because so many records came out this year, it wouldn't be fair to narrow [...]

As November rains its way into December, the Bay Area does its part in the War on Christmas with the onset of our annual secular holiday concert season.
