How's this for something unusual I found on Mercury Music's Twitter? Here's a live performance by Essex pop princess Pixie Lott , covering Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody' for the telly programme 'Dancing on Ice'. Lott is standing in the middle of an ice rink while world-famous ice skating duo Torvill and Dean are skating near her. We can only imagine what she's thinking. I'm posting this as light entertainment because we here at the American offices of TGTF have had heated (albeit humourous!) discussions about this particular [...]
Well, this should be fun. The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has proved to be quite the epic annual event. For its 2010 edition, the festival organizers have decided to make the lineup announcement equally epic, so for the next 24 hours or so we'll be glued to our computer screens waiting to see who will be hitting Manchester, Tennessee from June 10-13. As previously mentioned, the lineup announcement will work something like this. Unlike previous announcements, the 2010 bill will not be unveiled all at once, but rather throughout the day, with the goal being [...]
Next Tuesday really can't come soon enough. After all, on that day (February 9th), last decade's best music festival will look to kick off this decade with a bang by unveiling its 2010 bill. And based on the rumors, this year's edition of the Bonnaroo Music Festival looks as incredibly insane as ever. This week, we learned news of The Flaming Lips' late night headlining appearance, where they'll be playing their own set before covering Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon . LiveDaily , a website owned by Ticketmaster.com, [...]

[mp3] Malachai : "Fading World" We're not British, but we know a lot of British people. We've dated them, played music with them, lived with them, and well, have done pretty much everything with them at one point. We're privy to the North v. South battles, the polite disdain they harbour towards Australia and Ireland, and how much they all fucking love Kings of Leon for some reason. Yet, we can't claim to be experts on [...]
Chunklet reports on the Leons new fashion line
All the news last night & this morning seems to revolve around The Grammys - not that it's surprising, of course. But it had slipped my mind it was even on. I'm more of an Oscars/Golden Globes man myself, despite my obvious obsession with music. I'm not one to piss and moan about award ceremonies too much. I've long ago come to accept that they're all flawed concepts, so I just try to evaluate them on a pure entertainment level. I'm less likely to cry about who wasn't nominated than I am to whine [...]
So unfortunately due to obligations rooted in my real life, I wasn't able to watch last night's Grammy awards and snark them in real time as I have in years past. But thanks to some lovely twitter followers, I was able to keep track of the goings-on in almost real time. If you follow me on the aforementioned twitter account, then you know that I tried to predict the winners of some of the major categories, based on who was deserving of the awards and on the trends from recent Grammy award ceremonies. Well, it appears that Grammy [...]

Awards season officially kicked off Sunday night with the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ! In all honesty I feel most awards ceremonies are so out of touch with what I consider quality music, but nonetheless I always tune in for the performances, fashion, surprises and disappointments. Sunday night's' show kicked off on a high note with Lady Gaga performing a high-concept run through of Pokerface and duetting with no other than Sir Elton John for lovely renditions of Your Song and Speechless . High performance notes [...]

Yesterday was a popular awards show called 'The Grammys.' From what I understand, this awards system is supposed to 'award' the best music of the year. It seems like it is some sort of 'system to perpetuate the popularity + album sales of the same artists/labels/bands/etc.' As I have read alternative coverage of the Grammys/all mainstream award shows, it seems like these are the 'prevalent themes.' Indie music 'has arrived.' The Grammys aren't 'honoring' the 'best' indie music Indie music has been 'stolen' from 'us' and __________ (mnstrm artist) sux The [...]
The only thing missing was a threesome between Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonce

Several Oklahomans were nominated, but only two acts came away winners at The 52nd Grammy Awards last night. Kings of Leon , which includes Oklahoma-born members Matthew and Nathan Followill, came away with their second, third and fourth Grammy Awards: Record Of The Year - "Use Somebody" Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals - "Use Somebody" Best Rock Song - "Use [...]

And so we've reached the conclusions of another pointless Grammy Awards. Perhaps it truly is just an awards ceremony for industry elitists and musical heavyweights, but even those individuals couldn't have helped but cringe when Taylor Swift attempted to duet with Stevie Nicks (shortly before taking home Album of the Year), Bon Jovi was given three songs, and Stealth star Jamie Foxx and Mr. Auto-tune, T.I. were handed a microphone. And then, there were the awards themselves... Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" = Song of the Year? The Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Grammy Awards Make no doubt about it: the 2010 Grammy Awards belonged to the women, as Taylor Swift took home the top prize with the Album of the Year award for 'Fearless.' "I just hope that you know how much this means to me," said the 20-year-old, who became the youngest artist to win the award at the age of 20. ( Alanis Morissette previously held that record at the age of 22.) "We get to take this [...]

The Nashville foursome were up against pop heavyweights the Black Eyed Peas , Lady Gaga , Beyoncé and country princess Taylor Swift . Filed under: News , Grammy Awards Kings of Leon have barely finished walking the red carpet at Sunday night's Grammys , and they can already call themselves winners. The Nashville rock band nabbed Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals with their smash hit, 'Use Somebody' -- beating Coldplay , U2 , Green Day and Eric Clapton , who performed with Steve Winwood on 'Can't Find My Way Home.' 'Use Somebody' also earned [...]
