Shadowy indie rock After a pair of self-released EPs and a 2006 full-length, The Great Compromise on Post Records, this Florida indie rock band has fully embraced the Internet distribution paradigm. Their latest EP, Lie to Me , is available for free on their new website , along with photos, lyrics, blogs and the assorted ephemera of twenty-first century marketing. If you like what you hear, you can send the band a donation . Kingsbury’s latest music is moody, guitar-and-studio-production rock [...]

"It ain't bragging if you can do it," they say. When you get an email from a band that states, "The difference between us and other bands is that we're actually good ," it's hard to take them seriously. I admire the cheek, but at the same time, I've heard many a crap band say that exact same thing. Boredom prompted me to take the band Kingsbury up on downloading their EP Lie to Me after they issued the above challenge...and I have to say, they most certainly [...]
Florida seems an unlikely place to spawn moody, cheerless and bleak music, after all - the sun! the beach! the palm trees! half-naked bodies lying in the sand! and did I mention the sun? I could see this music coming from Southern Ontario this winter but Florida? However, that is where the members of Kingsbury claim they come from. Bruce Reed - Guitars, Keyboards, Vocals; Mark Freeman - Bass;
T.J. Burke - Drums, Programming, Synth, and Samantha Christine - Guitars, have crafted a list of songs that sound depressingly like they spent the winter [...]

Kingsbury hail from Florida and make subtle, atmospheric, thoughtful music that uses more dramatic elements with commendable restraint. New EP Lie To Me follows 2007's album The Great Compromise but branches out into a little folktronica; it also includes two hushed instrumentals. This reminds me a little of Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Good stuff. The first track is, I think, stronger than the title track; the second is barely there but beautiful nonetheless. Back In the Orange Grove Armada The EP [...]
Javs loves him some shoegaze, but moreover, Javs loves him some free shoegaze that transports him to another, more peaceful world. That's just what Florida band Kingsbury has to offer with their just-released Lie to Me EP. Pop over to their website and download their entire catalog if you like. All of that is free too. Kingsbury is embracing digital culture, and that's what we at Indie Paws like to see. If you really enjoy the stuff, don't hesitate to send a donation their way. Lie to Me - [...]
Kingsbury are a band from Florida that's been touring and recording for more than a couple of years now. They released their first 2 EPs back in 2006 and followed up with their first full album entitled The Great Compromise. The band is now back with a new EP titled Lie to Me. Kingsbury - Lie to Me Kingsbury - The Great Compromise The band's music is a mix of progressive rock, folk and indie

In my mailbox Toronto-based Dean Marino sent me his first album, which he made under the "nom-de-plume" EX~PO . "Central Meaner Street" opens with the kind of rock track you'd expect from the likes of Buffalo Tom and other great 90s bands. Guitars prominently lead the way, with vocals luring you into the world portrayed by this album. But little frivolties like "Banana Republic" or "Burn, burn, burn" offer a glimpse of what more this man is capable of... [...]

I wanted to touch on something that I am sure is discussed many times in the new era of Blogging. The unfortunate, or not so unfortunate flare up of "Blogger Crossover". What I mean is when you see the same artist, song or whatever blogged by a million bloggers at the same time. For us "slightly off the beaten track" internet denizens, it happens less, but still happens. I mean how many times do you need to see the new Kanye West or MGMT remix on Hype Machine?? In what could be considered unfortunate to the musicians themselves, [...]
Kingsbury All on their own merit, Florida band Kingsbury has shared the stage with names like Stellastar* , The Honorary Title , Matt Pond PA , and French Kicks , and self-released two highly praised EP's, released their full-length debut on Post Records in 2007 and followed up with another EP, Lie To Me , late last year. Their music draws influence from Calla , Low , Sigur Ros , and Mogwai . In an effort to "completely embracing digital culture," the fellas [...]

From May 2007 to July 2008, Kingsbury tried numerous different writing and recording strategies in their home studio, Sugarwood, in Winter Park, FL. The band (Mark Freeman, TJ Burke, Samantha Christine, and Bruce Reed) was still involved in promoting their critically acclaimed debut full-length The Great Compromise and touring across the country, but used what little time they had to write, record, and craft music in ways outside of what they were used to. The result is Lie To Me , the follow-up EP to The Great Compromise. Lie [...]

(Ryan): It's pleasing that my musical 2009 has kicked off by finding ten tracks as great and as varied as these... let's hope the rest of year is gonna be as good: 'I Love College' is Rap-jester Asher Roth's soundtrack to the kind of antics displayed in 1978 comedy classic 'National Lampoon's Animal House'. His vocals are gonna remind you of Eminem but his rhymes have more of the lyrical cheek of early Beastie Boys. This boy's got plenty of other tunes equally destined for chart success. [...]

Kingsbury - Lie to me MP3 Kingsbury - Back in the Orange Grove MP3 Kingsbury - Lie to me EP (ZIP) Highly recommended for those who admire Calla and wistfully remember the Collisions. Great band and a bunch of impressive music here !
With most bands and publicists in vacation mode last week and since after two holiday mixtapes , our well of indie Christmas carols and Hanukkah hymns was beginning to run dry, we didn't have much to work with for last week's Friday Mixtape. So we decided to scrap it and return with one this week that would be down right bangin'. Suffice to say, I think we accomplished our mission. Below you'll find a mix of this week's best new singles, covers, and remixes along with a multitude of mp3s from some talented up-and-comers. Enjoy! [...]
While the better part of December was spent giving a taste of things to come in the New Year, some reflection on 2008 is definitely in order with today's featured artist. Kingsbury is the indie rock quartet of Bruce Reed (guitar, keyboard, vocals), Mark Freeman (bass), T.J. Burke (drums, programming) and Samantha Christine (guitar) from Orlando, Florida. The band's catalogue includes a pair of

The almost obligatory goals and game plans are launched this time of year, sometimes based on last years failures or the continued snippets of self praise you have saved for that rainy day. This year, putting aside the numerous take-down notices and the odd legal letter causing some mild bottom fluctuations, we will be almost certainly reviewing a larger proportion of unsigned and independent artists and generally promoting the expanding live scene a lot more. Here`s to a few of you sticking around this year and giving us the perfect excuse to annoy some more people, maybe even making a [...]

Kingsbury are an interesting lot, they mention Radiohead in their biog along with Low. Yet, it's not Radiohead I hear, no no no, I hear a hell of a lot of the Dirty Three , Tom Waits and Mogwai . Indeed, in texture, in structure and in melody i hear rather different influences. Equally wonderful. Oddly they're from Florida and not from Seattle or Scotland, FLORIDA! There's this lush slide guitar (pardon my ignorance if it's not slide) but it's really emotive, moving and ace. Quite unlike many of the artists we've so [...]
