So today is the day a man was arrested here in the Tampa Bay area for sleeping nude on the sidewalk in front of City Hall , or, as Floridians like to call it, "Monday." Since all of us in the Sunshine state are surrounded by such craziness everyday, we tend to not look twice, much the same as New Yorkers view celebrities or Belgians view delicious waffles. And if we adapt to our surroundings and start to do the commonplace without realizing it, then here's a band who obviously lives in a world of awesomeness: [...]

It's not uncommon for me to get emails from record companies, containing a press release for a band that desperately needs promotion. Usually these emails aren't even adressed to me, and have simply been sent out to every music blog owner the record company could find. It's always nice to receive an email from a band rather than their representitives, and even nicer when they've taken the effort to look at the blog prior to sending off an email to see if I've actually featured music similar to their own. Samantha, guitarist from alternative band Kingsbury [...]

I often get questions from our fabulous correspondents in RockSellout Reader Land with questions such as "Keath - why don't you do a Smash or Trash?" or "Keath - do you have something against Smash or Trash?" or "Keath - just do a damn Smash or Trash already!" Strangely all these email addresses are some anagram of "Kip." No, I kid - but it is time for me to contribute to the Smash or Trash category with a couple tracks which I'm on the fence about - time to turn it over to you for further analysis. [...]

INTRODUCING - Kingsbury words: Jamie Milton Bruce Reed's heartbroken, cigarette-stained vocals are quite the centrepiece of Kingsbury's work. 'Leave Me Be' would sound like a song on the third Keane album were it not for Reed's shrewd, subtle haunting words. His stronghold on it all keeps Kingsbury interesting and keeps them at the top of a never-ending pile of more than interesting bands forming in the Americas. They vary between sounds of doomsday and beauty - opener 'Corpse' is a kick in the face at every [...]
A distant cousin of mine lives in Orlando in one of those planned communities owned by Disney. The entire subdivision looks like it could have been the movie lot to "Pleasantville," and the street names are cutesy and Mickey Mouse approved. Orlando based band Kingsbury aren't really into all that pleasantness and sunshine. They'd rather listen to their Jesus and Mary Chain records and make dark

A few months ago, I got a relatively unassuming e-mail from the band Kingsbury , telling me that I've written about some of the bands they like ( Calla and Radiohead in particular) and that, perhaps, I would like their tunes as well. As luck would have it, I do. Perhaps this is because they actually let the bands they like influence their music, which is a good thing to do when you have good influences. Corpse is a very Calla-esque song, Desert Inn sounds influenced by both, and The Great [...]
If you'd like to hear me and some excellent bloggers introduce our selected songs that mention another song, band, or artist, check out Contrast Podcast #58 . This podcast is a way to discover some wonderful and obscure tunes presented in a different theme each week. The link is permanently on the sidebar under Other Music. Now I'll showcase just a few of the fine bands that have come my way through MySpace. Casing Static Los Angeles' Casing [...]

OK, so I could have totally used this next band in last week's Contrast Podcast for "Kings and Queens." Orlando, FL band Kingsbury compare themselves to bands such as Calla, Radiohead and Low. I like them already. After taking a listen, I am really enjoying their stuff. It's eerily dark -- almost too dark -- but something about it strikes me to keep listening. The music makes me feel like I'm walking through a hazy dream and no matter what I [...]

Kingsbury hail from Orlando, Florida. But they don't sound sunny, or Californian. Oh no. Not at all. As you might be able to tell from the song titles on their debut LP The Great Compromise ( Corpse , Buried Beneath The Trees , All This Dead Space ), they're a far more depressive and intense affair. So far they've played shows with bands like Stellastar, Holopaw and One Line Drawing, and to my ears their LP shows a hell of a lot of potential. Good points of comparison would be Red House Painters, Low, The Bad [...]
