Kiss Kiss, The Faraway Places and Ben Lee highlight this week's releases, unless the pop buzz behind Lily Allen or the folk/country swagger of Miranda Lee Richards get you first. Maybe even the comedy from Andy Sandberg's Lonely Island steers your attention from a long list of solo artists deserving more of the credit than we gave them. For us, Kiss Kiss ' album The Meek Shall Inherit What's Left off of Eyeball Records heads a quality list of albums releasing. Their [...]

Kiss Kiss | Photo Gallery This band is so great live... a little tough to shoot given the lighting, but they were such a blast to watch. A lot of write-ups out there describe Kiss Kiss's sound as like an Eastern European circus of sorts... shoot over to their MySpace page and give a listen yourself. I've been sitting on a copy of their LP "Reality Vs. the Optimist" for quite a while now and I'm finally getting into it. I'll be jumping on their next album "The [...]

Let's face it, this year your company is probably canceling the Holiday party or demanding you pay for your own booze and your own payoffs to avoid that sexual harassment suit from when you put the lampshade on Jane's head, fondled her ass and asked whether she would like "to be further harassed sexually in violation of state statute 32.6.7b" Well, your worries are over. That's because tomorrow (Wednesday) night in Hoboken, New Jersey at Maxwell's, Kiss Kiss , and our good friend David Debiak of Sleep Station will join a fab cast [...]

Part Two of our Kiss Kiss Kuestionnaire continues. If you're just dropping in; Kiss Kiss ' music is easily described as avant-garde rock music for classic 70s horror films. We've already received answers from drummer Jared Karns . This time around, lead vocalist/guitarist Josh Benash answers the Kuestionnaire and shares his love for Nirvana and nachos. 1. Of all the bands/artists in your CD/record collection, which one is your most cherished? I'd have to say my extensive collection of Nirvana bootlegs from my teen years [...]

Despite equipment failures and a haunted house , experimental avant-garde rock band Kiss Kiss would like you to know that they are done with their new album. And it's got some pretty big shoes to fill considering their debut album Reality vs. The Optimist was one of the most talked about debut albums of 2007. Reality vs. The Optimist is the soundtrack to a death circus; it's mix of Mr. Bungle oddity and Cure like emotion makes it a joyous yet dark record that leaves the [...]
I intended to post this last night, but my internet wasn't tryin' to hear it And the Mashups are... Kiss Kiss Boy (Yeah Yeah Yeah\'s vs. Chris Brown) and Roc Boys Get It Together (Jay-Z vs. The Go! Team) Good grief, I and two other people picked forty seven pounds of blackberries today. Um, here's a acoustic cover of "Eye of the Tiger" in French? The Eye of the Tiger- Arnaud Aguergaray, Chiara Mastroianni, Maitane Sebastian, Olivier Bernet, [...]

THIS WEEK'S FINDS week of Mar. 4-10 "Heretics" - Andrew Bird Andrew Bird has a sleepy, elastic way of singing his elusive, layered songs, and intermittently odd enunciation too. He uses solid, understandable words to create incomprehensible treatises on something resembling life, eschewing standard hooks and catchy melodies for carefully laid out, intertwining instrumental themes and snippet-like melodic motifs. The effect, once I let myself sink into it, is mysteriously convincing; not only do I return and return and get more and more out of it, I begin to believe that Bird [...]
01-30 Peter, Bjorn & John @ Bowery Ballroom Don't hate me, but I went to this show without being a huge fan. My presence and unfamiliarity wasn't the reason it wasn't a spectacular show; I've seen plenty of bands I know little about and they've left me in awe. Peter Bjorn & John just didn't do much for me that night. They left me feeling they were an average band with a handful of good songs. Writer's Block is fine and all, but my favorite songs are all [...]

Remember how boring those orchestra concerts in elementary school were? Kiss Kiss does, and has taken a progressive effort in making chamber music more enjoyable. This five piece from Purchase NY creates a sophisticated orchestra tune, and fuels it with electric instruments and high energy. The result is outstanding. Add this Band on Myspace [...]
I tried doing this last year but gave up after getting a C&D for a contraband file. C'est la vie du blogeur , I guess. I've been more careful about what I share, but even this list isn't the way I would want it. For one, LCD Soundsystem should really have something here and I'd rather post a different Andrew Bird track. 1. Kiss Kiss - Machines [mp3] One of the newest bands I'm most excited about is Kiss Kiss thanks to their solid debut Reality Vs. The Optimist. [...]

I need to goto more concerts where the lead singer thanks everyone for coming into the city on a weeknight. Good times at the old office. Jerry gave me the heads up about Kiss Kiss last week, and it's been the only thing keeping me from listening to the new Arcade Fire on repeat since them. Can't exactly tell if they're actually a good band or just an extremely enjoyable one, but the distinction is more or less irrelevant. They are college age, my guess would be. The fanbase was younger still. But that comes with [...]
