The Joy Formidable played The Vic in Chicago last night. After sets from openers Kitten and Guards, the band rocked songs from their recent album Wolf's Law and 2011 debut The Big Roar . Max Herman was on the scene to capture the night.

We’ve stumbled across a deep house producer that goes by the name of Blake! The 22 year old producer/DJ has some top notch remixes on his soundcloud and also some nice unsigned originals of his own.  We’re really enjoying his deep, bassy track ‘What you Say?! ’ and his recent remix of Kolombo’s banger ‘Whatever U Like’ is rather enjoyable too. You can spot (well hear) an Insect Elektrika track a mile off. The distinct, quirky minimal sound is all their very own. The latest track is inspired by a story involving seal and a womens poncho. We'd love to hear that story. We're imagining some pretty kinky stuff! It's a great track anyway - stick it on.

This months Kittencast comes from DJ and production duo J2C . We first featured these guys on the blog for their banger of a track ‘The World’ . Kitten took full advantage of their time in Austin for SXSW, getting their name out by  performing nine shows  and doing a number of interviews, including a very entertaining one with us . The California band was also one of a select few acts to perform at Sonos Studio for an intimate set and an accompanying discussion of musical influences (theirs range from The Beach Boys to Eurythmics to whatever is on SiriusXMU at the moment). It’s Easter bank holiday this weekend, which can mean only two things: chocolate and clubbing. We’ll be indulging in both, kicking off on Thursday with the secretsundaze Easter party at Electric Brixton down in London town. We’ve been anticipating more from Will Saul’s new project CLOSE since he announced it with track O S C A R 5 months ago. The first official single is now ready for our consumption. ‘Beam Me Up’ feat. Charlene Soraia & Scuba is a blazing debut, melodic bass driven house with glorious spine-tingling vocals and the soulful sound we’d expect from Mr. Saul. Here are some quick thoughts on other SXSW acts I saw. DIIV, Mohawk Lounge - These guys had a rather long sound check and their shoegazey-distorted indied rock sound didn't really do much for me. I found out later that they had been moved from Red Eye Fly so that the Polyphonic Spree can have a two hour set. Anytime you are an up and coming band that gets moved from one venue to another in favorite of a cult-twee band, you have a right to be upset and thrown off your game, I guess. [...]

Mondays are always a struggle, so we’ve been on the hunt for a track to ease you gently back into the working week. This week we’re hoping that the Deetron remix of Amirali’s Melancholia is the one to finish off your day with. The mellow, spacey sounds of Amirali with a deep melodic groove from Deetron . We’ve been sent a lot of promo albums this week, and whilst we’ve enjoyed quite a few of them, there’s a clear standout- ‘Confidance’ from the mysterious SIS . It’s a real gem of an album - complicated, world influenced house, made with passion and energy but retaining a subtle clarity which distinguishes it from others who would claim to fit within the same genre. South by Southwest wasn't all fun and games for us — we got a lot of work done , too! This track floated its way into our inbox all the way from Brussels, sent by DJ-duo J etlag . ‘Technicolour Heart’ is the latest single to come from the pair who produce deep, progressive house and UK Garage. Vocals are taken from an accapella of Anneka’s ‘Technicolour’ which are then blended with soft beats and smooth melodies to create a wonderfully atmospheric track that would sit nicely in any after party playlist. Black Butter Records is a label that we well and truly love. It’s home to Kidnap Kid , Rudimental and a whole host of other brilliant artists such as My Nu Leng, Clean Bandit and Gorgon City. ‘Minimal, minimal, minimal’  is how  Jake Hart  describes his music.  This track from the South London solo artist is oozing with ambient bass.  And it’s minimal (of course). Whilk & Misky , a London based duo have only been friends since November and are now like ‘long lost brothters’ looking to hit the London circuit in the summer.  Their track ‘Wing Clipper’ is an unlikely mix of blues vocals and piano with a techno edge.
