Dirty surf. Cheerleader grunge. Candy thrash. These are some of the genres in which Chicago almost-all-female punk band Swimsuit Addition places itself on the group's Facebook page. And it's true. During the Kitty Hawk 's short five-track run—clocking in at just under 13 minutes 30 seconds—it's almost impossible to not notice Swimsuit Addition's disparate influences. It's also almost impossible to not find your head nodding to the catchy, upbeat '90s alternative rock guitar riffs and guitarist/vocalist Jen Larson's sometimes bubbly, sometimes [...]

Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Local pop punkers Swimsuit Addition have unveiled a head boppin' new track called "Cartoon Paper Cup," the lead single off the group's upcoming Kittyhawk EP. "Cartoon Paper Cup" kicks off with a tight drum intro and bouncing bass line before metallic guitars riffs rip through the mix. The song's perky, upbeat vibe is enough to rouse anyone suffering from a food- or work-induced coma. Cartoon Paper Cup by Swimsuit Addition Check out the single and then catch [...]
Like a lot of DC artists, Sean McArdle has musical roots in a more aggressive post-punk sound. But his solo effort is a decidely more melifluous affair. With a classic folk sound that recalls Nick Drake at times and the gritty Americana of Towns Van Zandt, his warm voice and finger picking guitar style drive these [...]

Kitty Hawk is a project that is budding from Washington D.C.; a city where class still exists and people still wear ties and dresses to work. Being a bum (only in comparison) from Seattle it felt good to have a little of Kitty Hawk's class rub off on me. Kitty Hawk's music is calming and invigorating. After a full listen I feel as though I have stepped out of a sauna. Soak it in and enjoy. "Hollow shadowfax" "Big Day" "Bear in the morning" Kitty Hawk also has fun art on [...]

Tonight there's a phenomenally gritty and exciting show at the Ottobar with The Constantines and Time Fite. Finally up north in Philly Rachael Yamagata is playing an intimate show at the First Unitarian Church . mp3: Paul Michel - Day\'s Looking Up mp3: Rachael Yamagata - Sunday Afternoon mp3: The Constantines [...]
We've had the supercomputer and the ship and because things generally come in 3's we now have a band named Kitty Hawk. Seems this particular act are still at embryonic stage as there's not the slightest hint of a record, just a series of fabulous demos. Kitty Hawk have a lush Grizzly Bear/Animal Collective feel to their fly by the seat of their pants recordings. Lo-fi it may be but this is music

PWRFL Power just wants to be "a cupcake of the current music scene," at least that's what he told Zac Pennington of Parenthetical Girls in a recent interview. AON sat down with the man behind the name, Kaz Nomura, when he tumbled through town to play at the Hosiery, along with other acts like Winston [...]

I wrote this after seeing the Federal Reserve, a collective of established, and like-minded alternative/folk musicians, perform on June 2nd at Iota in Arlington, VA. They played acoustic sets, and used basic folk instruments (including the chair for percussion). Not gonna lie, I was a little tipsy when I wrote this, and it's advisable that you just skip down to the bottom. You've been forewarned! Tonight, I saw the face of music. Music is when a group of friends decide to play together for no [...]
