Wow, this band is a punch in the face. I've been listening to a lot of classic and alternative rock lately and switching to something this heavy and crushing was a bit of a surprise. KONG! is a group hailing from North Carolina which seems to want to bring the balls back to underground metal. As far as I can tell, Mind Eraser is KONG!' s debut EP - I say as far as I can tell because there are at least another half-a-dozen bands out there with that name - and [...]

Belgium is back - this time it's Kong turn to provide us with a set of smooth laid-back beats for the summer. And I said smoooooth. Brussels is not exactly known as the house capital of the world, but it's blessed with quality dj's like Kong - so it's safe to say quality over quantity. Kong's a busy man with FM Brussels and with his new project, 22Tracks , where a collective of great dj's and journalists team up to provide the best music. Great work there. Also [...]
Do you remember that video for 'Lotus Flower' that Radiohead put out to promote their recent King of Limbs album? Y'now, the one where Thom Yorke dances like a lunatic? Well, Leeds-based noiseniks Castrovalva have gone and done something similar, only with growling angry noise instead of limp-glitch indie, and a mad-limbed ginger fellow instead of [...]

I have Boat news and bad news. The BOAT news is the band have a new single out on Magic Marker, the bad news is that after landing in Federal Way, King Kong is in Seattle. He just busted down Denny, and has now climbed to the top the Space Needle. He's plucked a Kenmore Air sea plane from the sky and is wreaking general havoc at the Seattle Center. Where's Fay Wray? Why does Kong look like he's bigger than the Space Needle. Which version of King Kong is this exactly? Obviously it's [...]

Over the last two or three weeks we've probably received more tracks to MM than ever before. Not that we're complaining, especially when the quality has been really high. It does mean we're struggling to do everything justice though and while (in a perfect MM world) many of these tracks deserve their own post, we've decided to round up a bunch in one go for you. So take a chance, and download something new. First up are raucous lo-fi electro punk four-piece, What Would Jesus Drive and their new EP [...]

"As long as we have hope, we have direction, the energy to move, and the map to move by. We have a hundred alternatives, a thousand paths and an infinity of dreams. Hopeful, we are halfway to where we want to go; hopeless, we are lost forever." - Hongkongese proverb Filed under: Asian Persuasion , quote Tagged: hong , kong , quote
Cheers to old friends and friendships that stretch continents. This week's show still went on even though I spent a good majority being lazy and eating yummy food with some of my favorite people. This weeks show has been fueled by pizza and soda. I think I have the voiceover quality figured out as well so it should be sounding pretty good and consistent from here on. 17 songs totaling over an hour of music + IP rants and HD TV talk.
As an international jetsetting playboy, I am rarely in one place for very long. In a given week, I might dine with Saudi oilmen in Riyadh, ski the Swiss Alps with European fashion models, and canoodle with toothless crackheads in Detroit. That's just how I roll, people. On a recent trip to [...]
Onto Sunday we go, and the singer of opening band Crocus was so dismayed at his microphone stopping working that he settled for simply screaming at people. He was still louder than the rest of band. Scary. Scottish metallers, Azriel , did that melodic-hardcore thing that they've been doing for a few years now, and while Holy State ticked all the right boxes and wore all the right t-shirts for a band playing Offset, they didn't match up to the unhinged noise war of [...]
Almost certainly when you read this, the great and the good from Thrash Hits will probably be passed out drunk in the fields surrounding Reading & Leeds Festivals respectively. But even the weight of an incredible drunken stupor isn't enough to keep Thrash Hits from giving you a Spotify Sunday Slaylist taster of what looks like the last great festival stage line-up of the summer: the Thrash Hits-sponsored Hardcore Stage from next weekend's Offset Festival . Just take a look at the line-up that's been assembled for the stage's [...]

It had to be a skull. Alexander McQueen teamed up with Hong Kong fashion house JOYCE to create a USB port drive. It carries 2GB worth of space. But you can't get it unless you spend approximately $1,300 on fun things from the store. Then you will get what they are calling the "Truly Gifted" USB stick. What a way to make people spend their money. Posted in Asian Persuasion, D Is For Design, Fash Tagged: alexander, Design, hong, joyce, kong, mcqueen, stick, usb

For some reason with two members from melodic rockers Oceansize in the band I didn't really think that Kong would be just as abrasive and generally weird as they are. I don't know why, I just figured that the apple can't fall too far from the tree. However, no…this is a side project in every sense of the word. So if you're reading this and expecting to hear something even remotely similar, then just forget that now. I would say Snake Magnet [...]

Flitting back and forth between UK and US acts (with the odd stop further afield, for the sake of culturing oneself) has always been a given for Heavier-Than-Air . Being based in a hotbed of US musical activity now, however, it affords an extra bonus in keeping these ears actively trained over to old Blighty now that they're not exposed to homegrown music on a daily basis. Aside from providing more interesting sounds to write about in these here spaces, it largely prevents me missing exciting releases [...]
Marked by simple four-chord progressions, pounding intrusive bass lines, and indistinguishable layered lyrics, you're looking at the finest produced high-school single you have ever heard. [[This is an excerpt. The pages look just silly here, you know? Why not just hit up the article, homes? We'd appreciate that!]]
