Well, seeing as how we're a week away from Christmas, and that we've been in a festive mood around these parts all month, thanks to our rather awesome (if we do say so ourselves) #herohillxmas Advent Calendar , a Christmas themed Old School Monday seemed in order. I was about to do this from scratch, when thankfully I realized that I'd done a fairly thorough Christmas Rappin' post a couple years ago. It seems like it would be rather difficult to do it any better than I'd already done it, so I'm putting those same songs back [...]

Whilst we may known for our refined palette in underground disco and house and often only spotted ripping some muscle in the gym or spinning wax at da hottest clubz, once every so often (most Thursdays) we switch our dumb bells for an XXL Fubu vest (dress) and swing on down, John Wayne style to The Social , just off Oxford street for some beer, bitchezzz and...hip hop karaoke (observation only) It's pretty hit or miss, but the odd time they'll spin 30 minute intervals crammed with the finest old school 90s flavas! In honour of these little [...]

treacherous three - "yes we can-can" (download) From their 1984 debut record for Sugar Hill Records (although some might consider it an EP, since it consisted of only 6 songs). The Treacherous Three consisted of Kool Moe Dee , L.A. Sunshine , Special K and Spoonie Gee (who left in the late 702s). Classic old school hip hop.

Around third or fourth grade, my mission was to listen to every cassette tape my father owned. His music collection had always been a treasure trove of sorts and having already learned not to mess with his vinyl, the tape collection was the safest choice. They were easy to slip in and out of their cases without detection and he had enough of them out of their cases strewn around the house, enough so that if he went to look for one and I wasn't the first person he came to the cassette wasn't there. I grabbed [...]

Fans of old school 90s hip hop take note. Salt N Pepa will be hitting the Richmond Colisuem for their Legends of Hip Hop Tour . Other acts on the tour include Whodini, Rob Base, Kurtis Blow, Doug E Fresh, Biz Markie, Naughty By Nature, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe Dee, Slick Rick and Chubb Rock . Some of my favorite Salt N Pepa songs. Salt N Pepa - Push It Salt [...]
If you're a hip-hop fan, tonight you can kick it old school and new school. For you old-school hip-hoppers, "Salt-N-Pepa's Legends Of Hip-Hop Tour" hits the Liacouras Center on Temple University's campus at 8 p.m with performances by Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Doug E Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, and Kurtis Blow. Chances are you'll have enough time to make it from North Philly to West Philly to see the new school perform as "The Black Rose Foundation Presents Let's Move Philadelphia: A Health Benefit For Black Girls" featuring Black Thought (of The Roots) and Rich Medina [...]

Far be it for me, a mere Canadian with a music blog, to comment on something like the whole rancorous American health care debate, which is completely none of my business. But, I have to say, when I read things like this story about the legendary DJ Kool Herc 's treatment for kidney stones leading to a "financial crisis" because he doesn't have health insurance, I have to shake my head in wonder. You can be on whatever side of this whole health care debate that you wish, but it seems to me you'd have [...]
New Music video by Redman "Rockin' Wit Da Best" featuring Kool Moe Dee. (C) 2011 The Island Def Jam Music Group
I randomly checked out the Milwaukee Theater web page and saw this: Legends of Hip Hop with Salt n Pepa , Naughty by Nature , Kool Moe Dee , Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick . Tickets are on sale now ($42.50/$52.50) for the Saturday, April 9th performance. Who's going? These artists collectively represented about 90% of the tapes I owned as a kid. Nostalgia!
Getting you caught up on all the Music City news you missed this week: JEFF the Brotherhood just released the duo's new Live at Third Man 123. Those who were at the show can now head down to Third Man to pick up their black & blue split color ( the regular vinyl can be purchased here ). After hitting Atlanta on New Year's Eve with Heavy Cream , the guys are heading over to Europe to crank out 13 dates before the end of the month ( tour [...]

Somewhat inappropriate picture today? though, I'm not sure why but somehow I think a half naker girl always seems appropriate. either way it's a tease. When it's good it's good, when it's bad its better... right? so... a few songs for whatever is teasing you, or for those that have only ever made it through a few pages of Ptolemy's Almagest and then afterwards just stared at the sky thinking of something much more stupid but engaging, such as can i cook a pizza on the grill?, or how long could I live in the wilderness. According to [...]

Possibly from an old Jive Records promo showcase? How come Grandgood or Robbie have never done an interview with former JJATFP beatboxer Ready Rock C ? Or have they...? [h/t: Kobie]
