My discovery of Kopecky Family Band happened during one of those serendipitous moments at South By Southwest a couple/few years ago. I was at South Congress, walking in an alley behind Yard Dog Art Gallery to get to my next destination, when I heard some sweet music sounds coming from a small stage near a keg full of free beer. Never one to pass down free beers, I filled up a cup of Shiner Bock and settled in for a set from a band I'd never seen - Kopecky Family Band. It was one of my favorite SXSW discoveries - [...]
I'd heard Kopecky Family Band's "Heartbeat" before (in fact, I wrote about the video last November), but it wasn't until I heard all of Kids Raising Kids that I realized this was a band I was going to love for a good long while. "Heartbeat" is a standout track for sure, but the whole album [...]

Here are a couple more free gems via Noisetrade that should be added to your iTunes library posthaste. We discovered the indie-folk of Horse To Water via a FB post from longtime MM fave Wooden Wand . Their album Not Me But The Mountain is described as " a journey through the minds of vivid characters that live on the fringe ", and so it proves as it is filled with stories rich with detail and anchored by subtle hooks that will find yourself unconsciously humming the next day. Not only [...]

Nashville buzz-band Kopecky Family Band (KFB) just re-released their playfully exuberant eleven-track debut disc, Kids Raising Kids , via ATO Records. The new disc mixes foot-stomping orchestral pop with vocal harmonies and ringing guitars that sound straight from the 60’s Laurel Canyon scene. While the band’s music will strike a familiar chord with fans of music collectives like Broken Social Scene and The Polyphonic Spree, KFB seems more willing to reach beyond the boundaries of the genre than some of their contemporaries and frequently utilize the ‘exploding’ verse-chorus-verse alt-rock song structure that become popular in the [...]
Fresh off a recent label signing with New York based Ato Records, Kopecky Family Band lands in San Francisco at the Brick and Mortar Music Hall and provides an intense evening of music.

Hailing from Nashville, the Kopecky Family Band only features one member with last name of Kopecky, and in fact, none of the members are actually related to each other in anyway. Instead, the six-member act has formed a familial bond through the hours and hours that they've spent playing music together since forming out of a dorm jam session on the campus Belmont University back in 2007. Last week the band released their full-length debut Kids Raising Kids via ATO Records, which features their brand of enchanting chamber-rock, highlighted by the well-matched vocal harmonies [...]

It’s not Americana or folk rock; it’s Stomp-cana. ATO Records, 2013 7.1 / 10 What a great time to be an upstart folk/rock hybrid band. With the recent success of The Lumineers (you...

Nashville's Kopecky Family Band aren't comprised of blood-related members, but their name does come from Kelly Kopecky, who leads the sextet with Gabe Simon. Their video for “Heartbeat” — a track off of their debut “Kids Raising Kids” — also presents that playful family vibe as the band attempts to play a tennis match only to break out into aerobic dancing on the court. The clip is even shot similarly to a home video, which makes watching these silly kids all day pretty easy. “Kids Raising Kids” is re-released today on ATO Records. ||| [...]
