Despite being recently welcomed to the hip-hop world by KRS-One, DeAndre Way, more commonly known by the general public as Soulja Boy , still doesn't appear to be getting too much respect. After an early summer feud with Ice-T, the man behind the Grammy nominated "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" is now experiencing the wrath of the big bad internet. A miscreant from the sordid 4chan message-board community sent rapper and social media whiz-kid Soulja Boy a text message the other day, telling him to fork over $2,500 if he [...]
WOAH. This is kinda funny. This is like Kobe Beef meets Ponderosa steak. The hip hop legend that is KRS-One and the new school prodigy Soulja Boy talk with Rap city. They touch up on the Ice-T/ Soulja Boy beef, and KRS speaks on the issues and troubles of hip hop today. Soulja Boy seems a little uncomfortable but still does a a good job.CLASSIC.

Enigmatik hipped me to this link over at Dallas' spot , of what is definitely some fucking police brutality : A fucking BLACK COP beat that nigga like he was a slave. KRS-One was so on point . No Justice from the punk police. Sad part is, niggas are scared of revolution ... how long are YOU going to let this go on?

DJ Revolution said it best in a recent interview, "the connection between the DJ and the emcee has been severed. " King of The Decks " is my attempt at reconnecting it." Revolution did just that with his new album, as he brought together some of the most talented names in Hip Hop today, who not only produce quality music, but also respect the craft of the DJ Culture. Revolution has spent 15 years perfecting that craft on the turntables. He's currently behind the wheels of the longest running Hip Hop show in the history [...]

An end to another stunning summer week! Well stunning for me at least. I'd hate to make an overwhelming generalization that the entire world had a stunning week. It would be nice if they did...but probably not...any way I'm rambling because that's what Fridays are for - a time to uncork your mind and let it spill out onto the office floor. Let these tunes be the soundtrack for that event: mp3: The Gossip - Listen Up (The Black Ghosts Remix) mp3: Kanye West, Nas, & KRS-One - Better Than I've Ever [...]

Return of The Boom Bap by KRS-One is the BEST hip hop album around… period. It's rare to find a rapper who mixes intelligent lyrics, non-stop flows, and heavy beats that I guarantee will be impossible to get out of your head (go ahead, I dare you to listen to "Sound of Da Police" and try not to tap to the beat). With songs against sexism, gangs, and police brutality, it's hard to not draw up comparisons to my favorite style of music: punk rock. I [...]

Any serious discussion of East Coast hip hop and rap music must begin with reference to the legendary DJ Premier. Preemo, as he was affectionately known by the various emcees he worked with throughout his career, revolutionized the hip hop beat with his simplistic use of a punchy two bar breakbeat. His greatest contribution, however, may have been in the incorporation of vocal scratching into the rap producer's arsenal. His wide-ranging choice of samples also being a point of interest, it is mainly the perfecting of the scratch technique, that crazy wiki wiki sound, that has cemented DJ [...]
There are two phenomenal shows in the surrounding areas tonight. In DC the Black Cat has Islands, Magic, and Street Carnage. In Philly, Johnny Brenda's has Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ghastly City Sleep and Subtle. Here in Baltimore, don't miss a quality lesson with the teacher himself, KRS-One at Sonar. Enjoy! mp3: Islands - The Arm mp3: Black Moth Super Rainbow - Sun Lips mp3: KRS-One - Sound Of Da Police
After seeing KRS live and in person this weekend, if you didn't think you'd be seeing more KRS on Old School Mondays, well you're just not paying attention. Any, it was an enjoyable weekend, but a long one, so I'm going to keep this short and sweet. One of the best moments of the show occurred after he invited some b-boys & b-girls onstage to get their break on. After they did their thing for a bit, KRS launched into another song ( Outta Here ), and security came onstage to try and clear it. [...]

It would not be an exaggeration to say that the first 20-25 minutes of KRS-One's show last night at the Marquee was one of the coolest things I have ever seen live and in person. But first I'll recap the start of my evening, which was spent at the Seahorse. Of course you remember from my preview post that there were three acts playing the Seahorse, The Superfantastics, Dog Day, and Immaculate Machine. I got to the bar at shortly after nine to meet up with Herohill associates Barbara and [...]

What are birthdays? What are weekends? What are parties? I'm not quite sure either, but I know if you combine these three things with music, food, and liquids, you'll experience what I'm about to experience tonight. Yep, you guessed it...it's my birthday...and a party is a comin'. Here's but a slice of the music I'll be listening to tonight...some new...some old...all friggin' great. Enjoy! Go Pisces! mp3: Peanut Butter Wolf - Keep On Rockin' It mp3: The Beatles - Happiness Is A Warm Gun mp3: [...]
