Beacon's sure-to-be-stellar The Ways We Separate LP still has a few weeks before its official release, so to hold the time over Kuhrye-oo has pushed the pace of the album's lead-single "Bring You Back" with a brand new remix. While the original focuses on minimalist beats perusing the background, Kuhrye-oo has forced the pulse to the forefront, adding intermittent layers of samples throughout. Canadian producer Calvin McElroy has created a solo self-titled EP under the name Kuhrye-oo . Known for being associated with acts such as Gobble Gobble, Born Gold, and Grimes , McElroy has always been an important background player to electronic and r&b grooves. His current project Kuhrye-oo's single "Give In (For The Fame)" provides a menacing, glitchy sound that penetrates with emotive samples of vocals, and visual vibrations of feeling. In a ridiculously well-matching pairing, Montreal producer d'Eon has remixed one of the year's best songs, fellow Canadian Kuhrye-oo 's "Give In (For The Flame)." d'Eon offers a "rave-friendly" version of the original's mournful 2-step, which has just been released by UNO as part of a remix pack also featuring versions from DJ Sliink, Boody and Le1f, and Ryan Hemsworth. Kuhrye-OO is one of those musical acts I had seen posted damn near everywhere but never got around to checking out. That changed today when the good folks at the Boiler Room posted a stream of his recent live set and dude totally wowed me. It's 26 minutes of bass-heavy, drums-driven tunes from his own catalog and, presumably, the catalogs of others. Like I said, I'm new to his work, so I'm really just trying to take in the layers of synths and drums across this mix that you can stream below.
