Check out Kuryakin 's sweet and dreamy remix of their own already quite sweet and dreamy track Forget About You , which was included on the band's 2010 album A New Day . Thank you J.A. for the heads up! Forget About You (2011 Remix) by Kuryakin [...]

We're now carrying two new cds from Fastcut Records Japan. The excellent new Kuryakin album "A New Day" and the Suede Crocodiles compilation "Stop The Rain" (previously available on vinyl only from Accident Records). Both are $16 each and available right now in the Shelflife shop .
Swedish duo Kuryakin have a new album titled A New Day. From the album, the same titled opening track "A New Day" is a breezy indie pop gem with simple pop harmonies and jangling guitars. Along with all of the great twee pop artists to have come out of Sweden, Kuryakin join their ranks with [...]

This is lovely, homemade craft that seeps slowly from the minds of Petter Gjöres and Johan Norberg. Things aren't helped by the geographical distance that separates them (Stockholm & Uppsala) but as we all know the web is making such hindrances less taxing. Kuryakin are signed to Shelflife Records, the sort of perfect set up that is truly deserving of their talents. 'Take My Hand' is the opening track from last year's 'Still Here' EP and what a jangling electro beauty it is. Despite the bright and chirpy music the vocals can't help but sound melancholic. The effect is augmented [...]

Where I live, on a clear day I can see all three of the highest mountains in southern California. The double-punch storms of a few days ago left all three with a thick cover of snow. It didn't snow at my house this year, but four years ago we woke up the week of Thanksgiving to find a soft, white blanket had fallen during the night. The photo above is from that. Everything IS dead pretty when it snows. Pete Green: Everything's Dead Pretty When It Snows Website and [...]

Electronic ambient pop from Sweden. Sure shot for lazy afternoon. RIYL: The Radio Dept. [ kuryakin ] Kuryakin // Rain , Still Here, 2008
Finally, finally, finally, Shelflife Records has re-vamped their website, and to go with that, they have finally added the long-awaited Champagne Riot EP to their stock. So I could finally place my order for the 1000-series (which includes a CD and a 7" Vinyl), from which I picked the following artists. If you're not familiar yet with these great musicians, you should definitely change that... Scandinavian-influenced indie-pop doesn't get much better than this! Champagne Riot - [...]

Shelflife records has given me some of my best musical moments this spring/summer, with brilliant releases from artists like Kuryakin , Days and now The Ruling Class . The format of their releases is quite special, since they combine the 73 with a cd-ep in one release, - 2 songs on the 73 and 4-5 different songs on the cd. I've been waiting for the debut from The Ruling Class since I first wrote about the project quite a long time ago. Their "back to [...]
Who: Kuryakin Location: Sweden elbo.ws Ranking: #28 Thoughts: If pretty were defined by a sound then the definition might just be the Swedish pop duo known as Kuryakin. I have no idea what the name of their band means, I had no idea that they existed till a few days ago, and I have been completely hooked since first hearing "Take My Hand" on their Myspace page. It's a beautiful song, lush with an

The past two days I've been listening several times to the new Still Here EP by Swedish duo Kuryakin . The 5 track CDEP and 2 track 7" combines for 7 lovely indie/electronic pop tunes that are as refreshing as the coolest summer breeze. As mentioned yesterday it's a new release by Shelflife Records , which now are responsible for two of the finest EP releases so far this year (including Downhill by DAYS ). + Peace of Mind [...]

I've been a longtime fan of Kuryakin ever since they began making music in '03. The Swedes, Petter and Johan have been makin' some sweet pop music with their Macs and guitars with several small releases throughout the years but finally they've got a new one called Still Here released on Shelflife . It's an EP but it's got several brand new songs from the duo to accompany your on coming summer dayzzz. You can get the special 7" and EP here ! Still Here [...]

MP3-Download The Ruling Class «Flowers» MP3-Download Kuryakin «Take my [...]

The more I check the unknown bands playing at this year's Vesterbro Festival , the better the program looks. The new fine tracks by Danish post rockers Mimas have already been posted by Frekvens and In a cyclone of stones , but good stuff deserves multiple postings. + Cats on Fire + Mac, Get Your Gear I mentioned NY duo [...]

Tell me, what's better than indie laptop pop? Swedish indie laptop pop of course. Kuryakin have been perfecting their songs since they formed in 2003. Now though a series of ep's and singles they are ready to unleash their perfect pop unto the world. Their debut ep, Still Here , is out now on Shelflife , they also have a two song ep called Fought A War out on the Japanese label Fast Cut here . The title track encompasses all that Kuryakin strive for with it's moody beats, [...]
Indie pop in the United States is not dead quite just yet. Well, at least the lovers of indie pop aren't. Sheflife, a long-time staple in the indie pop world has released and produced numerous albums from the likes of The Radio Dept, Language of Flowers, Brittle Stars, Le Coup, Shermans and so [...]

Shelflife have released the latest two EPs (or is that mini albums?) into their comeback as a record label. The first is by Swedish indie posters Kuryakin which has been quickly followed by an effort by London based The Ruling Class who, judging by what I have heard so far, seem to think they come from Madchester, circa 1988! I will leave you to decide whether this is a good thing or not. Kuryakin - Take My Hand The Ruling Class [...]

Ahhh indie music genres, there's no shortage of them these days. From post-punk to twee, every band out there seems to fit into their own specific music style. While researching the band in today's Tweeview, I found perhaps the most fitting genre applied to a band. Welcome to the world of 'laptop-pop'. Songs consisting of synth beats, electronic orchestras accompanied with a simple guitar pluck or strum. Perhaps the most popular band I can think of that uses this music production method would be The Radio Dept. Here's a clip of one of their live shows and you'll [...]
