(photo from Kyler England's Facebook page) Kyler England is the Atlantic Tomcod of music. This comparison has nothing to do with the bottom feeding tendencies of the fish but rather its ability to evolve quickly in order to prosper . Kyler has built an illustrious career on the back of her ability to evolve. While firmly established as a solo singer-songwriter she has always sought out new ways to grow and enhance her sound in order to remain fresh for her fanbase. Kyler's music has appeared on numerous television shows (Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, Private [...]

The music of L.A. songwriter Cathy Heller embodies much of what might be described as the "Ingrid Michaelson" effect: sincere, sweetly turned out acoustic pop that's lightly glazed with strummed ukuleles, chiming guitars and tightly spun vocal harmonies. Forthcoming five song EP Imagine Nation , due April 20, was produced by Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Cory Brothers) and Heller co-wrote the songs with her "beautiful partner in crime" Kyler England (of The Rescues). At turns heartfelt and sunny, tracks such as the spirited "Breaking Free" and DC pick "Fly Away Home" reveal a [...]
After taking a break to work on the debut from Fleetwood Mac-ish L.A. songwriting outfit The Rescues, Kyler England returned last month with her first solo album in three years with Electric Hum . Produced by Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Cary Brothers), Hum is a sleek and glossy, electro-beat-driven vehicle for her hook-laden melodies such as "Alchemy." Unlike her earlier guitar-focused folk/pop albums, England wrote nearly all her new songs on piano, a strategy that helped make the move to the more Imogen-Heap-styled plugged-in alt/pop a seamless transition. Like sugar dissolving [...]
Comprised of four L.A. singer/songwriters - Adrianne Gonzalez, Kyler England, Gabriel Mann, and Rob Giles - The Rescues came together initially at the request of a local record label exec who wanted them to play at his wedding. The result was a surprisingly personal chemistry onstage and eventual creative marriage for the quartet. After a couple of years of local gigs, writing and recording their self-released debut album Crazy Ever After and exposure via multiple song placements on the usual run of TV shows (Grey's Anatomy, etc.), The Rescues are readying their sophomore album, tentatively titled [...]

Wednesday night is the official start of this year's Next Big Nashville festival, and like last year - things are kicking off with a film. (Unlike last year, I think it's safe to say that we won't be seeing quite so much up on the screen in the Belcourt this time around. Um, yeah.) Anyway, the Nashville premiere of Make Out With Violence is absolutely my pick for Wednesday night at the festival, especially with the final performance by [...]
Listening to any Kyler England song, it's easy to believe you're hearing a classic in the making: gorgeous, organic pop music that speaks to your heart like a close friend. Her soulful voice draws you in with its fragile strength, then leaves you breathless when it soars to brilliant heights. She sings like you'd always wished you could, with all the raw honesty of your most painful moments and all the beauty of your fiercest hopes. There is something universal going on here, something magical. Comparisons to Sarah McLachlan and Patty Griffin are mere approximations; Kyler has a style and [...]
