Sifting through great Brazilian records from yesteryear I came across a stunning 15-track album by Lô Borges. My list of favorite Brazilian artists is growing at a steady rate, and Lô Borges, like the likes of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa, never lets me down. Although it's from 1972, the self-titled LP sounds like it could be fresh off the press, but I suppose the steadfast classiness should have been a tip-off that it's almost forty years old. Oddly enough, I was first introduced to Lô Borges quite anachronistically by Phoenix with their Kitsune Tabloid release last year. [...]

I am thrilled to welcome Christopher "Evil Vince" May to Muzzle of Bees as a guest contributor. He has turned me on to countless artists in genres that I would never have gotten close to without his help. On top of that he's a photographer and world traveler. A couple times a month DJ Evil Vince will provide compilations of unearthed gems and classic favorites. First up is a compilation of Latin/Brazilian tunes. Enjoy.
After two weeks of near impenetrable June Gloom, here in Los Angeles, the sun has again decided to grace us with it's presence. With it, Lô Borges' 1972 self-titled album sounds that much better. I'm a strong proponent of situational listening; I believe in both the late-night album and Sunday morning background music. I think [...]

when brazilians milton nascimento came together with lô borges and the rest of the clube da esquina (the corner club) to record this self titled masterpiece, a piece of music history was being made, perhaps all the more significant and bittersweet as it marked the start of the falling apart of a band of immensely talented musicians who were never to make music as free, moving and inspiring ever again. the album, named after the collective, is a melting pot of ideas and genres, held together by little else but the sheer chemistry within the group. the centerpiece, as it [...]
