If you consider yourself any sort of gamer, whether it be the casual one that occasionally plays at a friend's house or a person who obsesses over virtually every new game to hit the market, I suppose this is for you. I guess it additionally helps if you also happen to enjoy the recent proliferation of music-related games to arrive in stores, be they from the "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band" series, which are in many ways some sort of revolution here in America (because, to be fair, Japan/Korea was onto this craze about 8 years ago). But the absolute [...]
This weekend Sub Pop is celebrating an awesome 20-years in the music business with a HUGE show out in Washington. I can't make it out there for it but I wanted to take a moment to celebrate one of the most important labels of my life-time. I thought about how to do that and decided that a list of the 20 Best Sub Pop Albums of All-Time would be perfect! And so here they are... 20. L7 Smell the

Taken from this lavvy wall This week Contrast Podcast ventures into the realm of mortal sin by inviting us all to wade waist-deep in a steaming, roiling pool of thick, viscous, musical... LUUUST!!! *Pant, pant, drool, quiver* Ahem. Er, I'd best make this very quick, lest it get messy. Download the podcast here and prepared to get all hot 'n' bothered. Just have a cold shower running on standby, and watch out for the two dirty old [...]

BECAUSE we must take over the means of production in order to create our own moanings. BECAUSE viewing our work as being connected to our girlfriends-politics-real lives is essential if we are gonna figure out how we are doing impacts, reflects, perpetuates, or DISRUPTS the status quo. I had another post planned for today, but after spending the better part of this morning swearing at the TV, the local paper, and various internet newsfeeds, I decided to work out my anger here instead. What's got me all riled up? The results of the gay marriage vote in the Massachusetts legislature, which means that a constitutional ban on gay marriage in the Commonwealth is one step closer to becoming a reality. The issue will now be voted on in the next legislative session, and should it pass again, it will be decided by ballot [...]

"After college, Anne Thomas Soffee journeyed to Los Angeles to start a career as a rock journalist and small-time heavy metal flack. This hilarious peek into the early years of the hair-band era reveals the hierarchy of fishnets, bustiers, and chicks with the Holy Grail—a backstage pass. A taste for other people's prescriptions and too much beer edges her freelance journalism work right off her schedule. She struggles with not being thin enough, pretty enough, or cool enough when, in the midst of the L.A. riots, Soffee is offered a coveted slot in Virginia [...]

Astronomical Clock, Prague Goodness! Things seem to have been all go, go, go a go-go around here. Several times over the past few days I've tried to tend to the blog, but to no avail. It's been looking up at me with watery, doe eyes and trembling lower lip, whimpering pathetically for attention. Sigh, I've slipped so... far... behind. But I will now try manfully to catch up... I just noticed this yesterday, and find it to be a fitting testament to how little attention that I sometimes pay to the world around me. In the Thai restaurant down the street they have all of this artwork up on the walls. It's mostly flaming skulls with cobras crawling out of the dead eye sockets or depictions of the crucifixion with a pig in place of Jesus, you know, that sort of thing. I think most of them would look pretty hot under a blacklight, but glaring into my pineapple fried rice is just a little strange. Each of [...]

For today's theme mix, I did something a little different. I got my dictionary out and opened it up to random pages and picked a word. Then, I looked through my collection for a song title that had that word in it. My inspiration for this was the scene in Say Anything when Diane tells Lloyd that she used to underline every word that she looked up in the dictionary. So, here's the most random mix I think I've ever offered up. Hope you like it! [...]
Hello Dear Friends, this is FiL from pogo a go-go, and I'm most thrilled that Bethanne saw fit to include me in her Blogathon 2006 team of glitterati. The posts so far have been fabulous and funky - well done by all involved! I'm somewhat daunted coming on right after the prolific contributions by Jeff, but I'll do what I can to keep you all entertained. I know you are all here primarily for the
