The public art installation "Play Me, I'm Yours" — which featured 30 whimsically decorated pianos deposited in various high-traffic locales around Los Angeles — was celebrated Thursday night with a pop-up show at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. "Pianos Live" boasted a lineup of about a dozen artists performing songs in the courtyard space. Many of the tunes paid tribute to the region (Kristy Hanson did Joni Michell's "California," Mariah McManus played "California Rain" by the Rescues" and Anthony Starbile took on Phantom Planet's "California"), while others such as One Two ("All Apologies") covered songs that inspired them. LA Font, meant to be pronounced as "elephant", have released a video for "Sharks", their single released as a 7" in July 2011 on the independent label Sister City Records. The new video was directed by Hank Friedmann and shot at six McDonald's that were so kind to allow the band to roll on their floors, throw burgers, and steal ketchup packets. Unlike Super Size Me , it makes McDonald's look like a fun fast food joint again. Watch the new video below. Read more »
Image by Jonathan McCabe [ Crème Organization ] I'm not sure what's in the water over at Danny Wolfers' bucolic alpine studio, but anything that keeps the quality so high on so many releases is something I want in on (unless it's some Robert Johnson style deal with the devil). The man's numerous mixes are often jam-packed with unreleased [...]
A bit back I wrote to you about contributing to LA Font's Kickstarter campaign in order to help them make their second album. Today, I'm doing it again. While they may not be the same without Greg's mustache, they are still an awesome band worthy of your time and dollars. Read the details again below: There are fine lines to cross in order to create a great album. LA Font needs you to cross them too. One of our favorite discoveries of aught eleven, LA Font, have started a Kickstarter campaign [...]

Video: LA Font, 'Sharks'
LA Font certainly don't have an aversion to out-of-the-box concepts, and in their new video for "Sharks," it's obvious they don't have anything against McDonald's. They may have slightly altered the famous golden arches, but going to six different locations of the Big Mac franchise to film the clip is an entirely different level of appreciation. Danny Bobbe, Greg Katz, Jon Perry and Harlow Rodriguez all love Mickey D's so much they bleed ketchup — ketchup packets, that is. Reuniting with director Hank Friedman, the clip doesn't feature any flying puppies, but burgers become as just as treacherous as [...]

[Introducing] – LA Font
Tweet In 2001 The Strokes changed the rock game up with their debut album "Is This It" which to this day remains one of my favorite albums of all time and was placed on the great majority of "decade's best" lists that were released a couple years ago. It's been almost eleven years since that, though, and rock has evolved and come and gone, and it's becoming increasingly common to see bands get on stage with at least one synth. It's refreshing, then, even as much [...]
Tonight in L.A.: Youngblood Hawke/Lady Danville, LA Font, the Mae Shi, Incan Abraham/Hands, Electric Guest, Judson McKinney, the Fling
First Monday of a new month, and you know what that means: new residencies. But first: ► Youngblood Hawke , Lady Danville and Useless Keys team up for a Pablove Foundation benefit at the Satellite, whose February residents, Milo Greene, don't get started until next Monday. Above is the video for Youngblood Hawke's "Burning Down" (as remixed by London producer Meck), featuring actress Angela Trimbur. ► Good stuff at It's a School Night at Bardot: LA Font headlines, the New Division and [...]
Tonight in L.A.: LA Font/the Ross Sea Party, Lovers Drugs, Skrillex, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Tyrone Wells
Your Sunday slate: ► Indie-rock quartet LA Font ought to be in a chipper mood tonight — the foursome's recent Kickstarter campaign to fund the making of a full-length album met its goal this past week. LA Font headlines the Bootleg Bar tonight, on a bill with the Ross Sea Party and Minneapolis indie-rockers Rogue Valley . ► Britpop-inspired trio Lovers Drugs play the Hotel Cafe — this weekend, they released an ambitious 20-minute short film/music video, directed by Paul Aspuria, that emcompasses all the songs on their [...]
