The new offering from La Sera is just as clean and high-heavens touch-sensitive as the others, but with a vocal verse like Black Tambourine doing the Pips. If these tracks were really recorded in the 50s with an old doo wop rhythm section replacing the gain'd up guitars and reels replacing mp3s, then they'd get some kind of Mad Men stamp of approval ensuring that 9 out of 10 dentists approve of their pop over competing sweeteners. Simply marvelous: La Sera, "Devils Hearts Grow Gold" Nothing can...

La Sera, the side-project of Vivian Girl Katy Goodman, has revealed another song that just so happens to be appearing on its upcoming, self-titled debut. While first single "Never Come Around" stuck somewhat close to the Viv's playbook, "Devils Hearts Grow Gold" is a completely unexpected twist--a humid, pastoral track that takes on an almost country-like stagger as it works its way through its running time. Welcome to The New York Rockmarket’s end of the year list spectacular. This is when I talk about how lists are fun but ultimately meaningless, and apologize for not posting the last few days because I’ve been compiling my lists. I’m going to attempt to skew my albums list a bit more towards the critical, but this songs list is just straight-up about fun, beautiful, [...]
