Wednesday, October 12, 2011 You know what's fun? Kicking the weekend off early, and that's why I'm recommending that you head down to the Mohawk tomorrow night and order yourself one of those large Brooklyn Lager cans (or a Lone Star tallboy, if you prefer), and then sit back and enjoy four great Austin bands: Black Books, Residual Kid, Boy + Kite, and La Snacks. Tomorrow's show began as an EP release show for Residual Kid, but it has taken on a new meaning. Their music instructor and producer [...]

Date 5/20/11 Location Mohawk Doors 8pm Tickets $8 @ Door It's been a great week so far for local shows, and we see no reason not to continue the Austin artist fun at Mohawk on Friday night. Tiger Bones Three well-at-least-we're-not-talkin g-royal-wedding-anymore reasons to tuck in your shirt and head to the Empty Bottle tonight... 1. Often times we here at LLP review an album, and then, well what do you know, that band comes around to play a show. This would be one of those magical times. New guy Ian Jones just wrote up quite a favorable review of the new EP from Chicago's Tiger Bones , and now you check them out live. How convenient. There are multiple references to Joy Division [...]

Friday, March 4, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: While it would probably be the better idea to stay in and continue resting up for SXSW, I wouldn't mind expending some energy to see the Walkmen at Stubb's tonight. The Head And The Heart and TV Torso are set to open. Doors at 7pm. Tix are $18. Stuff for your ears. Enjoy. : Art Brut - Unprofessional Wrestling : Eddie Argos is one of the best entertainers on the face [...]

It's been quite some time since I've heard any news coming from an old local favorite LA Snacks . Well the guys are in fact still together and are actually prepping the release of a new 73 single come this April. Below you'll find one of two tracks on the release called "My Little Sugary Friend". You can also check out new song "Christ Sakes and Milkshakes" over on the LA Snacks bandcamp page . Both songs are making me hope that the guys are gonna stick around for awhile this time and not keep us so worried [...]

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Last week I had the chance to see Lissie perform at the KGSR Music Lounge, and she was rather awesome. In fact, it was so good that I'm now impatiently waiting for the next time she comes through town. Proof is in the video I took of her doing a track called Little Lovin'. If you've wandered around Austin enough then there's a good chance you've seen me laughing and/or arguing in a corner [...]

Remember Marvel Team Up, the Marvel comic from the 1970's that brought together Spider Man and another hero of the same ilk to battle injustice? Well, this morning we've got our pal Jumbo Slice from DC Rock Club sharing the stage with us, and if there' any justice, he'll get you over to Velvet Lounge on Saturday night: "Greetings from Austin. I [...]
La Snacks , "Kristin Was A Meteorologist" I've been meaning to write about Austin, TX's La Snacks for a while now. I was first introduced to the band by Jumbo Slice from the DC Rock Club blog about a year ago. Then in November, when I was down in Austin for the Fun Fun Fest , I had the opportunity to meet the band's singer, Robert, at the Local Music is Sexy show put on by WOXY (among others). As a result, I've been listening to [...]

Date 11/12/09 Location Mohawk Doors 8pm Tickets $10 from Frontgate We really dug their new album and now we are excited to see that Thao & The Get Down Stay Down are making their way to the Mohawk on Thursday night. Opening support is rather interesting and is provided by [...]
Greg Hoy's most recent outing is appropriately titled Feel The Crunch! . A sheer master at infectious power-pop, Hoy is a one man cranking music machine. On 2006's Tastemakers & Heartbreakers , Hoy made a full-on, catchy, tight power-pop record all by himself. He manages to create music that sounds like it is coming from a quartet rather than just one person. An amazing feat. 09's Feel has Hoy back at it again and in fine form. The album has the Brooklyn based music wizard producing a somewhat more heavier sound than before but all the [...]

Our friends over at Party Ends have a sweet show planned for Saturday night at Club de Ville here in Austin. The all local lineup includes up and comers LA Snacks , Deleted Scenes , Loxsly and a DJ set by John Gross. Show starts at 9pm. This should be a cheap way to get your live music fix on an otherwise boring Saturday night. Download: LA Snacks - Kristin was a Meteorologist [MP3]

A ver si os gustan . m p3: Bricolage-Turn U Over mp3: Willoughby-Story mp3: [...]
Hey, it's May 1st! May we present you with this weeks edition of our Friday Mixtape? Of course, you don't really have a choice, because as you'll see below, we already spent quite some time putting together a pretty stellar mix of new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check out. Plus, you'd be crazy not to check it out - when you got Eminem and Sam Bean on the same mixtape, you know it has to be good! NEW Singles: "The Drop [...]

We meant to post these songs yesterday and simply never got around to it (our apologies). This procrastination was mostly due to our distraction by fabulous weather and then by the Cavs putting the smack down on Detroit and then later by the Tribe doing the same to the Yankees. While enjoying these victories, we were fueling ourselves with some delicious brews from Unibroue (La Fin Du Monde), Dogfish Head (Raison D'etre), Magic Hat (#9), and Brooklyn Brewery (Monster Ale). All in all it was a great day. As for today, we got [...]
