![[Introducing] – The Pixels](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3117923_lg.jpg)
Can you name a Romanian indie rock band? Nope, me neither, well not until today I couldn't anyway. Then I came across The Pixels. This four piece from Bucharest formed in 2006 and are on the La Strada label. Having played at festivals alongside such names as UNKLE and dEUS, they released an album in 2008 called "Fire Exit" and are now preparing for the launch of their next album by releasing a new single "One Part". Let me tell you what an introduction to an unknown world this track has turned out to be. I grew up as an Indie kid, always [...]

I'm still here folks and I truly appreciate your patience. I'm crazy busy with moving into a new apartment this week plus a slew of other work, life and family things that just can't be ignored. Strangely enough I'm listening to more music (new and old) than I have in a long long while which of course makes me want to stop and write - well I think carrying my entire home six flights down and one flight up in 95 degree heat also contributes greatly to my desire to just stop and do nothing but write. Anyways I'm going [...]
(photo: pigeonrow.com) Cheers to Matt at Pigeon Row PR in Halifax for providing a pair of prize packs to kick off our anniversary celebrations. Here's what we have on tap to quench your music thirst: 2 prizes each consisting of a copies of It Kills' self-titled release (recently featured on QBiM here ), The Grass's Rogue Waves and La Strada's New Home . La Strada formed in Brooklyn in 2007, and quickly made a name for themselves with raucous, foot-stomping shows [...]

I had some fancy things I was going to re-write about Brooklyn band La Strada , as they prepare to return to Halifax to play Gus' Monday night, but then I re-read the PR release sent to us by the hardest working man in Sackville, NB, and saw this: "Drawing on Jungian archetypes, folk tales and Franco-Baltic harmonies, La Strada offers up the best of the New York indie scene: interesting music made by talented people who have a point of view and a love for what they do." And that's [...]

Hey guys ! Since we are receiving loads of emails and...well... have a life, we are sometimes late on the answers. Sorry for all of those who didn't get any. Now, we have received an email recently about the next shows in Montreal and this week is gonna be pretty awesome. Wednesday, July 21st : Groove Attic and La Strada @ les 3 Minots - 8:30pm Groove Attic is a great funky band from Montreal. Their [...]

La Strada is from Brooklyn, but there's a faint whiff of Canadian-ness to "Go Forward," the opening track from the band's debut album, New Home . A cinematic rocker, it brings together rowdy, Celtic-tinged folk with swooping swings and lush group harmonies. We've all heard stuff like this coming out of the Maritimes and Montreal before. But New York? Not so much. I hereby pronounce the members of La Strada honourary Canadians. Cheers . MP3: "Go Forward"
It's taken long enough, but I finally got around to creating a Flickr account, and uploading a bunch of my photos to it. Below are three separate slide shows from relatively recent shows I attended. La Strada and Frightened Rabbit are both fantastic bands in their own respect. Enjoy!
My second night of NXNE was far more successful than my first. I kicked off the night at NOW's showcase at the Gladstone, with Timber Timbre being the star attraction for the evening. What drew me to the Gladstone though was the opportunity to see the (very) young Guelph band Mathemagic. The band were backed by beats from generating from their Mac Book. It was obvious too that when they write
Well, it's almost time for 2nd Northside Festival , during which The L Magazine takes over the Williamsburg and Greenpoint music venues for a few days. The Northside Festival will feature over 300 bands this year. Some relatively big names are playing ( Liars , The Fiery Furnaces , Fucked Up , Polvo ). But what this is really about is the chance to see lots of bands in small venues. It's an indie music overdose. You can get an idea of what it's like by listening to this radio [...]

Brooklyn's La Strada play their first Toronto show since the release of their debut at NXNE. I had the chance to ask the band some questions about the album and more. Check it out: T.O. Snob: You've just released your debut full length New Home. What was the recording process like for you?Ted Lattis: There were many differences between recording our first EP and New Home. For one, we were

La Strada [photo by Zandy Mangold] Brooklyn's La Strada became an instant favorite after I caught the band's February 2009 performance at the old Gravity Lounge. At the time the quintet was just beginning to tour outside of their hometown in support of their six-song, self-titled debut EP. Since that late winter performance last year the band has released their first official video (for the EP centerpiece "Sun Song"), logged quite a few more touring miles, and in recent months have been featured on a pretty killer [...]

Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin's suggested new releases. As always, feel free to leave a comment with your suggestions. La Strada – New Home. Download "My New Home" (mp3). This diverse album covers multiple genres: folk, Americana, Eastern European, and indie pop. There is eminent, chamber-like production from a quintet that adds accordion and violin to guitar, bass, and drums. Painted Hills – Painted Hills. Download "Kaleidoscope Eyes" (mp3). Download "Everybody" (mp3). Like Josh Schwartz's previous bands – most notably Beachwood Sparks – Painted Hills beget campestral psychedelic rock. Reverb-laden, jangly guitars drive these countrified anthems. After the [...]
