La Strada is an orchestral pop group from New York who just released their debut EP this past week. The band of seven create beautiful music with a variety of instruments including accordion, guitar, cello, violin, and viola. The sound is something like indie rock presented through a classical lens and is slightly reminiscent of a few of my other recent favorites; Peter Adams, The Uglysuit and Pale Young Gentlemen, which puts them in very good company if you ask me. La Strada's self-titled effort is a consistently great selection of six songs that showcase the [...]
There's this new thing called $99 Music Videos , and if you can read the name, well... you can figure out what they're all about. But just in case you don't quite get it yet: $99 Music Videos is an independent music channel of music videos, all made for $99 or less. Most musicians and filmmakers are unable to spend thousands of dollars on a music video. But in the age of digital filmmaking, you no longer need those kinds of budgets. In fact, amazing original music videos are being made for the web every [...]
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, La Strada has quickly become one of my favorite recent musical discoveries. I caught their set at Gravity Lounge a couple weeks ago when they shared the stage with Charlottesville's DBB Plays Cups and Birdlips and during the breaks between songs I just kept going up to whoever would listen and say "These guys are really f*@king good!" Their music combines classical strings with an indie rock flavor, really tight harmonies wrapped around an Old World gypsy sound, and as I [...]

---English--- La Strada define their music as the romance between old-world [...]
Fuzz Americana folkies La Strada are celebrating the release of their debut six song sing-along La Strada this week on Ernest Jenning Record Co. Having dropped on Tuesday, the record features lead-off single "The Sun Song," a swooning, swing-heavy shanty reeking of maturity and confidence for such a young group; "I'm not afraid to open [...]

This week we're more at a loss than anything because the amount of unknowns seems to heavily outweight the knowns. But alas, there is nothing like a fresh album that must be checked out. On the forefront of our album mentions is Gentleman Reg , a soft-natured singer inspired by Sufjan Stevens and The Smiths, who has several great songs such as "Coastline". We recommend picking up his fifth studio album, Jet Black . If you're looking for an indie rock group with some raw kick to their sound, then Black Lips [...]
The new sensation out of (you guessed it!) Brooklyn, La Strada just debuted their brand spankin' new music video for "The Sun Song." The fuzz-folkies collaborated with 99 Dollar Music Videos to produce the star studded, multi-million dollar Spike Jonze directed music video! But seriously, the site has a noble cause; they help the best [...]

Next New Networks and Verizon FiOS have announced the launch of a new online entertainment network, $99 Music Videos . Today's launch kicks off with an original video for La Strada , and upcoming guest talent includes Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard, Via Audio , Plushgun , The Depreciation Guild , Project Jenny, Project Jan , Lowry , Savoir Adore and Frances . New videos will premiere every Thursday on the network's website and distribution channels like YouTube and iTunes. [...]

Without releasing a record, Brooklyn's La Strada has already built a loyal New York City following; so their fanbase should balloon after the release of their self-titled debut EP next Tuesday, February 24th. With swelling strings, soaring harmonies, and (of course) plenty of accordion, this passionate seven-piece is well on their way to removing the word "next" from their "next big thing" promise. To me, their sound is somewhere between Beirut and DeVotchKa - marrying old-world folk/Balkan stylings with modern American rock and then running away with it to join the circus. [...]

Similar to NY contemporaries Stars Like Fleas and Twi The Humble Feather (who we also like ), La Strada has an uncanny ability to funnel the romance of old-world instrumentation through new-world amplification. With soaring vocal harmonies, accordion, and string-driven melodies revved up on rock 'n' roll, La Strada transports you to the hills of the Balkans, a street corner in Paris, and back home beneath a Brooklyn skyline. Frontman, songwriter and former aspiring astronaut, James Craft, was born in France and [...]

"La Strada is the romance of old-world instrumentation through new world amplification." To my ears that's a perfect description for the glorious indie folk-rock sound that I'm just beginning to discover from this Brooklyn-based seven-piece. And while I sadly missed the band's most recent performance at The Tea Bazaar back in December, I don't plan on letting another opportunity pass me by. La Strada returns to Charlottesville this Thursday, February 12 as part of a three-band bill at the Gravity Lounge that includes openers DBB Plays Cups (who I've [...]

Is there even any doubt that Brooklyn circa 2009 fosters one of the most vibrant music scenes on this here planet? Not really; at this point, Brooklyn as music epicenter is a given, and it really has been long since next-door spoiled brother Manhattan's ever-skyrocketing rents have forced 99% of musicians across the East River and elsewhere. It's like that cool time-lapse photography used to capture vegetation growing, except the flowers and weeds are bands, artists, and ideas exploding from a single concrete slab. And while those of us who live here may [...]
Deleted Scenes' approach to crafting songs is as old-school as it gets. They tour incessantly, testing new songs out on the road. They let their compositions breathe and develop- well before ever pressing record. Their debut album, Birdseed Shirt, was two long years in the making, and I was fortunate enough to see and hear their [...]

The year is soon coming to an end, the college students are done the first semester and heading home and looking for something to do. Quite a few shows during the week for those looking for something to fill the time usually spent working or studying. Photo from artist myspace Playing back-to-back nights at the Birchmere, Aimee Mann is having a sort of homecoming (born in Midlothian, VA). Out on tour promoting @#%&*! Smilers , these shows Monday and Tuesday are sure to [...]

I used to spend a lot of time checking out bands playing the region that I have never heard of before. There is something special about finding a band through nothing but your own curiosity and that was really the backbone that this site was founded on. So I guess that one of my resolutions for the new year is to get back to doing that. Fortunately, I have decided to start early. La Strada is 7-piece Brooklyn band that is ending the year with a little tour that includes a couple of stops in [...]
It's 5am and rather than risk injury from excessive twisting and turning I've decided to dedicate my extra waking hours to Brooklyn band La Strada. And all I've got to play with is a single track from their forthcoming self-titled EP. Lucky then that 'Starling' is a lavishly endowed piece of creativity. In fact if I didn't know better I would have said that the tune was in fact several,
I've had my eye on La Strada for a few months now, so it was pretty natural that I include them on a list of suggestions when Takka Takka asked me if I could recommend a band for an opening slot at one of their Pianos shows. La Strada is part Sufjan Stevens, part Bowerbirds, part Arcade Fire, part string trio, and part everything else in between. They brought with them a packed house full of fans singing and dancing along - by the end of the show, I had joined in and [...]
