Last time I brought you news of The Cornerstones they were getting some great radio plays for their singles 'Stand In Line' and 'Smack Me In The Face' and had landed a major gig supporting former Stone Roses and Ian Brown guitarist Aziz Ibrahim back in September of last year. 'Smack Me On The Face' is currently a favourite on the playlist of [...]

2013 brings so much promise...promises of new year, new music, and maybe even a new perspective. With all of that said, there are times when I just like the tried and true sound that soothes me. I have always loved Local Natives . Just a few days ago, they released a new song from their album, Hummingbird , which drops on January 29th. Their distinctive vocals, rooted drums, and heartfelt lyrics in their new song, "Heavy Feet", grabbed me immediately. Local Natives proves once again to read my somewhat melancholy mood. Is it just me? Maybe it is [...]

LA’s Hands , who we featured way back in the first month of HCM’s existence , is getting set to finally release their debut record Synesthesia in April. To reacquaint yourself with these guys, take a listen to their new single “Trouble”. Forging the best of danceable indie-rock, the band fuses together tightly wound riffs with the sweetest of melodies to create an undeniable tour de force of a song. Complete with an easy sing-a-long hook and anthemic attitude, these guys posses the Cali coolness to make them easy to point out for becoming future breakout [...]
I intended to take a couple days off of writing at the beginning of the year; sickness extended that absence and rendered me incapacitated for several of the past days. At various points, I couldn't walk, talk, or function. I did not want to eat and as it relates to here, I did not want to listen to music because of a constant headache. So, yeah, great start of 2013 for me. Fortunately, whatever I had seems to have finally passed. Last year, I started the new year with a post featuring Go On . [...]

Upcoming MC Mike B. reminds me of J.Cole, with emotionally raw but still heavily playful rhymes that send me back to high school, in the best possible way. Hailing from Los Angeles, Mike B's latest EP ,"Dear Michael, You're Welcome", was released on 12.12.12 and is now avaliable on his Bandcamp. Expect big things from him in 2013. posted by @clarkbs

So I guess I'm supposed to blog some shit I like on this site once in awhile or something (sick of these interventions). In that case, I got some #realhiphop shit for you. Like straight out of the Boot Camp Clik DVD Knife scrambled to show me last night. The lyricism and overall boom bap vibe has me wishing I worked with On&On & Trees during the height of UGHH.com. Yeah this video is like 3 months old by now (almost old enough to be considered classic), but I figure most hermits who read JTTS have no other way of [...]
![[EP] Rippy Austin: Patiently Waiting](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4698464_lg.jpg)
In the spirit of classic neo soul sounds & organic dilla esque breaks, Rippy Austin (Garrett Rountree) was able to to successfully blend the two in a short EP titled, Patiently Waiting . Just as the title evokes, after listening through the exteremlely soothing 7 tracks, Austin is merely showcasing a trial of his talents all while producing, arranging, performing each track on the project. Give this guy a top quailty studio. major label backing and you tell me what could come. Layback and let this play through. [...]
I've been thinking about 2013 a lot recently. I guess it makes sense because it's almost the new year. I thought I would share some thoughts, a recent favorite, and a prediction. I'll start with the prediction: I think 2013 will be the Year of the LA Bands. Lord Huron, HAIM, and Local Natives are all poised for big years. LA's prominence in indie music and music at-large has faded a little (at least that's my opinion; bands don't feel the need to move there as much to make it). It's the headquarters of the old guard of [...]

Dead Times | Truth The last few weeks have all but been defined by these two L.A. producers. Just when you think you’ve got Dead Times solved, penned in and pigeonholed, they’ll throw another distracting curveball. ‘Truth’, granted, is one of the first songs the band released, but it’s also the closest they’ve come to writing a full-blown ballad here. Latest track, ‘ Feel ’, is all oddball & pristine, energised pop music. This sinks deep into sleepy, James Blake-territory, sounding like the new Toro Y Moi record slowed down an extra [...]
