Words by Thierry Massard @ noCo...mment: Try to catch a protean asteroid, try to classify a acceleration place out of the box! For sure, that bypass is impalpable...a shimmering surprise coordinated by an alchemist without blinkers. The nines...not the exception that proves hypothetical rules, enthusiastic, enterprising, after 32 notable references, ZhangJW have decided to call together new incomers (except Syndrôm) to be sure to give new avenues of investigation and jump over the trap of the first compilation exercice. The leap is as graceful and elegant, as the reception carries a multitude of impressions [...]

Started the last day of my thesis studies listening to Finnish electronic artist and another veteran of the netlabel and (possibly) demoscene Lackluster 's Yuki Yaki release Proof of Concept . I've been particularly drawn to the first two songs, especially the Squarepusher inspired rapid bass oldschool IDM of Whinnye. Esa Ruoho is always on the go around the Electronica/IDM globe. Thus it is more than a touch of fortune that his restless wanderings washed him to our shores where he left behind a little chest for you. Five lush Electronica pearls have been aligned to a handy EP under his most famous moniker, which shows certainly proof of not only some kind of concept but also of the unquestionable mastership that Esa exposes in all his musical works. Without trendy side blows some grumblers might call it traditional but the more enlightened listener is fairly aware that glistening [...]

The 1st release on Acroplane by Lackluster. 'One of a kind' is the expression which best describes the Finnish electronic music auteur Esa Ruoho, regardless whether we are talking about the organic quality of his music under the artist name Lackluster or just the artist himself in his private life. Esa Ruoho is truly an original; a homegrown and uncompromising composer and an eccentric explorer of science and nature. He has been composing since the mid-1990s and is no stranger to the electronic music idiom. Since 2000, Ruoho has played numerous musical performances in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, [...]

hot! [dg] Its time for the first release of 2009 - after the superb Solar Fields ep, we've got a Kahvi regular. Lackluster is a familiar name to many Kahvi followers, and after the success of his live set at the Netaudio Festival London 2008 (a Lackluster set is something to experience live) I asked Esa if he could supply a recording of one of his sets, and here it is. Live at Oblivion (Helsinki) - 14-11-08 is a prime example of what makes Lackluster great in the [...]
