Pieces from various places and parts of Aly Spaltro's world exude throughout the colorful lyrics and retro tunes that make up her moniker, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (who placed at # 61 in our Best NYC emerging Artists of 2011 Poll . A southwest-meets-northeast history and a current Brooklyn base gives way to the whimsical language, imagery and tone of much of Spaltro's music. She has engagedaudiences with her original approach to songwriting and sound, as well as offered an artistic outlet for fans to share their creativity through their visual artwork, a unique concept found in [...]

After briefly sharing their debut record, Skeptic Goodbye, with the world this past summer, Boston's You Won't (@youwontmusic) decided to remove all but one song from their Bandcamp page and look for a partner to help unleash the album. During the short time it lived on the internet, though, I managed to snatch up the release and haven't stopped listening since. This past Tuesday, it was finally time for You Won't to send Skeptic Goodbye back into the wild with the help of their label, Old Flame Records . To [...]

Congratulations, both romantically-inclined and the perpetually alone: you've made it through Valentine's Day intact (perhaps with a few more pounds of chocolate weight?) This week, we've got lovely new tracks from Lady Lamb, Diplo, Burial, the Mars Volta, and many more. Now, only 362 days till the next V-Day... -Chris Coplan News Editor Burial - "Loner" On "Loner", the desolate first track off of his latest EP Kindred , South London post-rave wunderkind Burial displays a previously unheard [...]

New York songwriter Aly Spaltro, aka Lady Lamb the Beekeeper , has uploaded a new demo entitled "Arms" to her Soundcloud page . Written and recorded "on a bed in a bedroom" last month, the track showcases Spaltro's richly understated voice by hewing to the raw, sprawling folk of her 2010 collection of demos, Mammoth Swoon . The lyrics are quintessentially Spaltro, in one breath juxtaposing darker lines like, "I don't feel the cliff so much as the drop" with the adorably mundane idea of "trading our soft-serve cones 'til the end of time." Check out "Arms" below. [...]

What is this special occasion you ask? You Won't is celebrating the release of their debut record, Skeptic Goodbye , and ringing it in with the gorgeous ladies of Lucius [...]

Photo Credit: Shervin Lainez Believe - Lady Lamb The Beekeeper Lady Lamb the Beekeeper's (@ladylambjams) cover of "Believe" by Cher is all you could ever want it to be and more. Aly Spaltro makes the song so much her own that if (by some unfortunate miracle) you found a person who had never heard of Cher , they might believe it's an original. She slides into notes with her signature smoky voice and [...]

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper at CMJ (10/21/11) Photo : Jon Klemm Maine's Lady Lamb The Beekeeper was just here for CMJ, but if you missed her then, the good news is you've got two more chances to see her in the very near future. She'll be opening for Frontier Ruckus at Littlefield on the venerable 11/11/11 (this Friday), and then she'll be back in Brooklyn on Dec 15 with The Milkman's Union and Cuddle Magic [...]
Aly Spaltro, aka Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, showed both her rough and raw side as well as her melodic one on last year's Mammoth Swoon, which should've gotten her a lot more acclaim. But after that album emerged, Spaltro kind of went AWOL. She performed a few dates with Sharon Van Etten and Beirut recently, [...]

Well, now it's finally official! We are hosting a party at Pianos in Manhattan during New York City's most incredibly exhausting music festival known as CMJ Music Marathon (or simply CMJ). CMJ is a yearly week-long indie music fest that features the best of today's up-and-coming independent artists. Official showcases are complimented by a plethora of free parties that put some of the best bands out there on display. This year's festival runs from October 18-22 and will feature stand out acts such as Handsome Furs , Zola Jesus , We Are Augustines [...]

[Photos by Dominick Mastrangelo ] When I first heard Aly Spaltro, aka Lady Lamb the Beekeeper , I flat-out couldn't believe a girl so small ( the band's Facebook page cheekily describes her as 6223) - and so young (early 20s) - could make such a large, mature sound. Her "band" is no more than her and her guitar, but Aly never sounded intimidated or lonely on that empty stage. She cold-opened with an a cappella number - "Up In the Rafters" - that gave me chills. Stripped bare, the song is a sustained cry [...]

Be excited because this week might just be the best week of indie concerts in New York City in recent history. Not only is Death Cab for Cutie playing Williamsburg Waterfront, but Sufjan Stevens has two dates at Prospect Park, Lykke Li is playing Central Park, and we're putting on a show for Body Language and Port St. Willow (featuring Peter Silberman of The Antlers ) at Cameo Gallery . It's going to be an amazing week. Go see some music! [...]
For the past 13 years, the Truck Festival has been the UK's low-key alternative to conglomerates like Glastonbury, and with the United State's own festival scene close to reaching over saturation , the American version of Truck seeks to do the same. The second installment of Truck America is being held from September 9-11 at the Big Indian campground just two-and-half-hours north of New York City, and the lineup for this year's shindig looks quite different from most other major U.S. fests. Headlining the festivities are The [...]

![10 BANDS TO WATCH [NORTHSIDE FESTIVAL]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3521338_lg.jpg)
What is Northside Festival ? Well, it's a music festival put on each year in New York City by The L Magazine that focuses on the best indie music this city has to offer. It's not a typical music festival hosted in a park over a two day period. Instead, various venues in NYC play host to a weekend of shows and a Northside badge gets you into all of them for a small fee of $80 (buy here ). There's tons of [...]

Friday the 13th brought Beirut (@beirutband) with Lady Lamb the Beekeeper (@ladylambjams) to The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ. After only hearing echoes of Lady Lamb's powerful vocals from outside the venue, I was extremely eager to finally enter the room and experience the worldly sounds of Beirut . Led by multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon, Beirut arrived on stage unassumingly, said a quick, friendly greeting to the crowd, then quickly delved into their material. Given that the band's last album was [...]
