Any regular / long-term reader of this blog will know that I'm a really big Ladyfingers (aka Adam Weiner) fan; I've written about a couple of Ladyfingers albums already and love them so much, I never feel like I've managed to do them justice. Adam's a great talent, has a fantastic and utterly unique voice, and makes music I can honestly say I've never heard the likes of before. Now he's teamed up with a whole group of dudes (there's not too much information available about them just yet) to create Low Cut Connie , a [...]

It is soo good to finally see this guy getting some recognition on an international stage. He has a very solid reputation around London and the Uk but as far as I know hasn't had the same kind of impact over the pond. Torn between laughter and awe at Beardyman 's mad ad lib production skills, plus inventing a brand new genre "Blue Grass Jazz" is pretty impressive for, what I think, is his first appearance on American Tv. Check out brand new, unreleased and unrehearsed track "Lady Fingers" below. Click [...]

I'm starting to run out of stuff to talk about for these FF lead in's. *ponders* It finally rained here after 2 months. *thinks* Going to Europe for two weeks soon, so, any suggestions bars, bands, sites in the UK and Germany are appreciated. Unfortunately, that means the fix will be on vacation for two weeks (maybe) as well, depending on time and internet access! Ladyfinger (ne) - Little Things (2009, Omaha, Nebraska) Any readers out there from Omaha? Perhaps you can answer why such great bands come from there? Does [...]

First things first, I owe Adam Weiner a bit of an apology. He was kind enough to let me hear his new Ladyfingers album hot off the presses (released in April) and, just like last time I wrote about his music, I was in the middle of transitioning from one place to another (geographically, not emotionally or anything) and, sadly, his album had to wait. A shame indeed, because Open Your Robe deserved to be shouted about right away. Hopefully this is better late than never. Adam correctly pointed out that I missed a [...]

Last week I finally headed out to Bruar Falls in Williamsburg, a new venue by the folks who run Cake Shop. The occasion was a release party for multiple releases, with friends Ladyfingers , Sister Suvi , Afuche and Tune Yards all celebrating a newly available body of work, though Ladyfingers pointed out he had nothing to sell at the venue since his release was digital-only (with suggested donations). It was somewhat of a family affair, where everyone seemed to be fond of every one, except that one guy in [...]

Billings, Montana isn't really known for its booming music scene (or for much of anything else really), but believe it or not there are some quality acts coming from that area. I give you 1090 Club , a band whose gritty western rock shines through their latest release, Natural Selection. The band has emerged as true artists in the zero-boundary sense: cinematic storytellers whose latest album comes together in an essential whole. Their jaw-dropping performances on the record make you yearn for the chance to experience their energy up close and in person. To see 1090 Club [...]

*MP3: Ladyfinger - "Over and Over" *MP3: Ladyfinger - "Let's Get Married" Omaha's Ladyfinger mix the guitar tones and carnal energy of "Burst and Bloom" era Cursive with the riffy-ness and vocal inflections of modern Minus the Bear. The record is solid start-to-finish, however, "Let's Get Married" and "Over and Over" are the stand-out tracks on the record that bring me back to solid mid-90s depresso rock. Ladyfinger's "Dusk" is now out on Saddle Creek Records and available on iTunes here . [...]

As far as i'm concerned, this week's releases begins and ends with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's debut. I've been pretty vocal about how great this band is over the past year or so, and after several singles and EPs, this album doesn't disappoint in the slightest. You won't hear a better pure indiepop album this year, so I recommend you pick this one up immediately. If you want to get a little more familiar with the band, read the interview I did with them a couple [...]

Thursday, January 8, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: I saw Gran Torino the other night. It was pretty good, but the fact that Clint Eastwood sounded like Christian Bale's Batman kind of bothered me. I mean, why is he championed for his two hours of growling when Bale is widely frowned upon for what amounts to roughly five minutes of the same thing? Bizarre, I say! Here's an EP to help me get a little closer to being caught up. Enjoy. : BLK JKS [...]
Ladyfinger seems to be Omaha's answer to Queens of the Stone Age and quite possibly to most rockingest outfit to emerge from the Saddle Creek Records imprint. The band, which often shows love to its... Continue reading "The Download: New Ladyfinger (ne) MP3" >

I remember hearing Whalebones for the first time, while slightly intoxicated in the back of a strangers car. I remember being impressed and remember mentally reminding myself to right down the name of this rambling, near-epic, organ-exploding band. I, of course, completely forgot the next morning. There name again popped in to my perception after the broken-wrist debacle at Sasquatch. I thought to myself, "I should give these guys a listen." And of course did not. Recently, through sheer will power you might say, I was perusing albums and from the depths of my murky grey brain matter [...]
Comin' atcha first thing every Monday morning, it's The Pony Track, a super-fantastic short distance dedication to BadmintonStamps Collective founding member and internationally renowned symbol for musical excellence Aaron "Pony" Child. No fancy links, no clever write-ups, 'cause these awesome songs don't need no splainin'. So c'mon, ride the pony!

I'll just be honest here. I was supposed to post about Ladyfingers a long time ago. Like maybe almost a year ago, possibly. I kept putting it off because, I guess, I wasn't sure I could do him any justice. Also, (and some may say this is a little pathetic and that may be true) [...]
