Last week, Axl mentioned that he had tried to listen to Morbid Angel's new Illud Divinum Insanus re-mix collection for the purposes of reviewing it, but couldn't make it through the compilation's three-hour-plus running time. Subsequently, reader Todd Elliot volunteered via Twitter to review it for us, and since we sure as fuck weren't gonna [...]
Things I learned this weekend: Apparently it's grounds for an ass-kicking when you're black-out drunk at a bar and you tell a girl her boyfriend is "limp dicked" and ask her if you can "put a little baby in your tum tum." Good thing I was in a large group of people who would have [...]
'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Ticket to Ride.' 'One After 909' and 'I Want to Hold Your Hand.' Vote to see who moves on to the next round!

Matt from audiovisual droners Sunglasses posted this video on his Facebook wall, and I can't improve on what he said: everything about this is true & important & real. i know i posted this a year ago.. but it hasnt left my head or my body since. best and most important song ever. contains the only honest message you'll ever come across.
While driving earlier listening to an AM health-centered show, the doctor/DJ/host, asked his assistant if he liked "thrash music", their banter sort of went off into space, as the assistant seemed to have a grasp on some metal genres: " glam metal , death metal , viking metal , grindcore ", yet the doctor had nothing to ground himself with, and at some point mentioned the Yardbirds , Barry Manilow and Phil Ochs ... regardless, he referenced this study , which [...]
Things usually fare well for film geeks when they show a passion for making music. By film "geeks", I'm not referring to that friend who can name every David Lynch or Lars von Trier film. They might know every underground film in existence, but if they have no knowledge of production or the film aesthetic [...]

In a race against the clock - otherwise known as the final on July 11th - H-T-A is attempting to check out artists from around the 32 nations competing at the World Cup Finals in South Africa. Check out the rest of the posts to date here . Of course, being an Englishman, my eyes today were transfixed on my home nation's match with the young, skilled [...]
It's a bit like trainspotting but instead of being ignored somebody will actually want to read your notes. At first I had this crazy idea of trying to do a post every day during the tournament. When I took a second to think about it I knew immediately that this was a very, very silly idea. I will try to get something out as soon as I can. It'll probably mean shorter posts but I know that you'll like that. But we here at F&M (meaning me) can't be [...]

wooo yes a podcast! this could be the first of an occasional series or a one-off. who knows. anyway, this comes courtesy of our man just outside leicester, crayola, aka the man behind sarandon, drink milk design (he's just done john robb's new book cover) and my godson george. he has excellent taste and indeed is responsible for providing me with some of the choicer rips available on tba in recent weeks. and this is his podcast: ::: carcass - festerday ::: kenny process team - ronald frazer munro ::: the spores - freezing point ::: [...]
So if you read my last post you probably figured out that I'm not a fan of Black Devil Doll. I stand by my comments about the movie, it is the worst, least entertaining movie I have ever seen, and the fact that anyone out there likes it kind of makes me feel bad about the human race. HOWEVER, I do agree with some of the comments made in that I kind of went too far with my "personal" attacks on the filmmakers. Wishing horrible things upon people isn't exactly a classy move on my part, [...]
Queen was my first musical love and, re-listening to these tunes for this post, I remember why. Few dispute Freddie Mercury's position as one of the greatest frontmen of all time, but Brian May's absurd guitar playing and Roger Taylor's rock-solid drumming helped propel these tunes to another dimension. As a kid I never went beyond the greatest hits, and I never needed to. They're that good. So here are some of said hits, done different. Electric Six - Radio Ga Ga The Detroit six-piece behind [...]
Slovenialainen industrial-kokoonpano Laibach esiintyy Helsingin Tavastialla 16. helmikuuta. Kyseessä ei ole yhtyeen tavallinen konsertti, vaan luvassa on Laibachin puolitoistatuntinen Bach's Kunst der Fuge -performanssi-installaatio, jossa yhtye soittaa vain Bachin musiikkia. Performanssista julkaistiin viime vuonna myös Kunst der fuge -nimeä kantava albumi, joka on elektroninen sovitus Johann Sebastian Bachin Die Kunst der Fugesta. Laibach on yksi industrial-musiikin suurimmista kulttinimistä. Yhtye perustettiin vuonna 1980 ja nousi nopeasti maineeseen tekemällä populäärimusiikin suosikeista omia mahtipontisia konemusiikkiversioita. Kulttistatuksensa Laibach on ansainnut yhdistämällä musiikkiinsa poliittista aktivismia ja taidefilosofiaa. Laibach kuuluu NSK-nimiseen ( Neue Slowenische Kunst ) taiteilijayhteisöön, joka julistautui itsenäiseksi [...]

A friend asked if I was going to do a "Best of '08" list and I told him that I don't usually do these things. For one thing, I tend to post a lot of music that is either pop, mainstream or more than a year old. So rather than calling it a best of '08, I'm calling this the accurately and glamourously named "Rodeo Round-up of Favorite Songs Posted This Year Period." (What's that? Why the "period"? Ummm, it's called an 'Element of Style.' Duh , Vance. Look it up. ) I'd [...]
MP3: Laibach - Leben Heisst Leben from Anthems You might scratch your head if any band would record an album full of covers of national anthems. Volk is that album by Slovenian industrial band, Laibach, and that is what Laibach presented to their American fans at Independent in San Francisco on Thursday, September 25th. Laibach, the Slovenian [...]
Ohmigosh: Laibach . If you've never heard of them, really, watch this video and listen to this song. I hope I'm not the last person in the world to discover them. They (Eber, Saliger, Dachauer & Keller!) are from Slovenia, and coming upon their myspace page is like stepping into ponds of White Gold awesome. Their music makes me want to yell out " WE ARE SPARTANS !" and play Worlds of Warcraft for days...and offer the guy a throat lozenge. Great stuff. Laibach :Fiat.mp3 [...]

On May 31, Town Hall hosted "A Night in Slovenia" featuring artists of Slovenia, which seemed to be put on a segment of the Slovenian board of tourism. (In the middle of the show was a raffle for tickets to Slovenia). Naturally the night showcased popular and presumably representative Slovenian artists. To my growing impatience, almost all of them heavily featured accordions - that is until the decidedly accordion-free industrial behemoths Laibach played, which begs the question, who in their right mind would book Laibach to represent their country in a celebration of [...]
I'm in the midst of finals these days – hence the less frequent posting – but I'll tide you over with some school and test themed covers. Now back to "Immigration, Race, and Ethnicity in Contemporary American Society". Woohoo! Snatch - Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd) Sometimes the most interesting cover is the best, sometimes it isn't. I didn't do enough research to know which is the case here, but the moment I heard this funk-disco version I knew it was too unique [...]
