Delighted that we came across Birmingham's Swim Deep this morning. The relatively unknown trio (especially here in the States) has loads of potential. Their song "King City" sounds like something The Naked And Famous would write near a lake, just after sunset, in the depths of an enchanted forest. Hear for yourself: King City by SWIM DEEP
Another Stellar, Sunny Summer No matter where we go, the solitude and serenity of the lake house is always a constant for us. This summer was no different as we spend wonderful chunks of time along the waters. There was...

Artist : Gun Lake Title : Balfour Listen/Buy : BANDCAMP Written by Caitlin White Imbued with the smoky sorrow of a poet who was burned in love, Gun Lake's debut album Balfour shares the wanderings and struggles of Mark Fain. Although GFP did an interview with Fain last week, a more in-depth examination is required of a [...]

Words: Joe Parry Having released arguably one of the most powerful debut albums of 2011 in Gracious Tide, Take Me Home , Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Lanterns On The Lake had plenty to prove at their sold out Lexington show. Beginning with the enchanting album opener 'Lungs Quicken', the band demonstrated perfectly in just one song what they are truly capable of, in a track which feels both intimate and grandiose in the same breath. Dashing any notions of the term 'twee', the track was drawn out to unexpectedly epic crescendo before bleeding into [...]

I happened to received this email. Lake & Chapel is a online t-shirt company out of eastern Ontario. They need help looking for bands to wear their shirts & spread the word out. They are offering a free shirt to the person who suggests the band. Their tastes are pretty broad so the only criteria is that they are awesome. The ways to contact them are: Twitter [...]

This show began like any other, but without the transition difficulties. All was smooth. The music, on the other hand, was not. After a long, satisfying week, I was in need of some loud, abrasive rock music. But it wasn't all like that. Due to the cold weather, I mixed in some beach pop, fuzzy dream pop and good old garage rock and pop. Don't forget to hit up the bottom of this post and listen to two tracks from the playlist! "Torn Curtain" by Television [...]
Winter - Ready To Do Its Thing Winter sits on the lake like a content old man. Even as the sun sets, he holds steady. Nothing too fast, nothing too drastic. Uniform and sure. The lights may be going down,...

When I discovered I was going to be spending some time in Los Angeles this summer one of the things that excited me the most was to take in some sports matches live. With there being no American Football team in LA (at present) and the Lakers managing to get knocked out before I even arrived [...]

mp3 - Greatest Lakes - Nothing Left mp3 - Greatest Lakes - Sun Song Here are some promising demos from Milwaukee folk band Greatest Lakes . A fellow bearded man had been telling me about the band here and there and after listening I have to say there is some pretty promising stuff within the demos. The slow-churning fragile fidelity of "Sun Song" and "My House" along with the distant reverb soaked choral vocals are reminiscent of Tennessee Fire era My Morning Jacket - which, to [...]

Regal Safari Electronic Brighton three piece Regal Safari make music that trails that increasingly blurred line of dubstep and loose, atmospheric house which they term "post-modem" (as in a DSL or cable connection). We've previously posted the cold, pensive sway of Only, and now comes the prequel in the form of a pleasingly moody and smoothly produced 6 track EP which you can check out in its entirety on their Soundcloud . EP standout Lake revolves around an arpeggiated synth flutter that blossoms [...]
Lakes by Postdrome Postdrome is UK noise and drone artist Charlie Floyd. It was pretty difficult finding much on him outside of this album, too. Charlie Floyd also shares his name with a semi-famous country singer; plus, "postdrome" is a clinical term used to describe the after effects of a migraine. So I can only truly guess this guy's level of experience with this type of music. And whether it's creating, or just simply listening, my guess would be plenty. The range of sounds Postdrome offers on its debut release, Never [...]

There's no exact way of knowing how many songs are released in a day. Whether it be an eighteen second kazoo ditty on Soundcloud, or a Hypem track with 4 hearts, all music deserves a shot. Even on an independent blog like Earmilk, it's impossible to cover every band/song/remix worth listening too. That's why Straight From the Teet is back, and this time… IT'S DAILY ! My name is Logan (aka Running ) and I will be curating Earmilk's newest old feature, highlighting three up-and-coming artists from three different genres, so sit back and enjoy some good-old-fashioned, non-pasteurized, Earmilk. Drink it [...]
The mighty Besnard Lakes are making their return this summer: On Sept. 20, Jagjaguwar releases Welcome to Pine Point , the band's new EP, and first material since 2010's The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night. The EP features four new tracks, and that's about all we know. Just expect it to sound like a '70s stoner rock band come back to life. Here's the track list: 01. We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time) 02. Holiday Sin 03. Some Colour in the Sky [...]

Last September we were lucky enough to catch the wonderful Lanterns On The Lake play a sparkling set at End Of The Road Festival. We've been smitten ever since. We were therefore delighted when the band announced today that their debut album Gracious Tide, Take Me Home is to be released on 19th September on Bella Union records. For a wee taster of what you can expect from the album the band have made the track You're Almost There available as a free download via their Soundcloud... [...]
The day is a mean one-the rain has left a damp chill. It's a stay in, read all the papers and watch the ballgame sort of day. I may even sneak in a nap. Everything is still. No wind blows the leaves. The pouring rain of yesterday has cleared the pollen. The yellow is finally gone. Now only a few drips from the roof disturb the silence. Ants are in my kitchen. I found a couple in the sink. I figured they were advance scouts for the rest of the army. The traps have been set. [...]
