Allow me to complicate your semi-charmed life Date: 2009-01-08, 9:02PM EST So, you've got a great job, a house, a car. Your friends are encouraging and supportive. Your family adores you. Dogs, cats, and children flock to you. But, you're just missing that little something. You just need a little more flavor. Something to keep you on your toes. I've met your type before and I know just what you need. I can provide you with a ration [...]

Love More Than Music ( ) Umalali - The Garifuna Women's Project When I heard this album I was instantly blown away. I don't even know how I came across it, but I'm glad I did. It seems to mix traditional African rhythms, vocal styles, and instruments with Latin guitar playing styles and rhythms. I hate to think there isn't really a genre name for music like this, and, because of that it will be placed under "World Music" in the record stores, [...]

LAKE - Oh, The Places We'll Go When I first listened to this title and opening track my first thoughts were 'fuuuuuuuuuukkkkk yeah' because you know how hard it is to find good pop music (I usually just watch TV commercials for that) and when those drums drop in half way through that keyboard line, the sort of drums that kind of slightly scruffily just 'keep on going on' and the guys voice kind of sounds like the '60s. I thought this band was called Oh, The Places [...]

National Beekeepers Society - "Lazy" . We don't call it lazy when a dune is all sanding in the sun, there, or when a tomato-plant bobs its furry leaves in the breeze. We don't call it lazy when oil slicks over the sea, when a cassette plays through in the Buick's tape-deck. So why does my mother call it lazy when I take the Greyhound for four days, cross-country; when I break into the art deco skyscraper and go down to the basement; when I plug in the fat cable of my amp & electric guitar; when I play with [...]
The eventual wave destroys the camera. This is what I always dreamed of doing as a child. Not blowing things up, per say, but engaging in these types of crazy experiments. Sometimes it's the simple pleasures in life. [ via ]
This would probably be better suited (as much of Lake's music would) to warmer weather but I guess someone somewhere is reading this wearing a sun hat so we can get away with it. Anyways Lake's music is an all year round pleasure, how could any sensible ear turn away the loose delivery and off kilter charm of 'Heaven' taken from their third LP 'Oh The Places We'll Go'. This is a constantly

'Oh, The Places We'll Go' is the brand new album from Olympia, WA's Lake. It's a really, really good indie pop record, the band's third release. Beautiful harmonies and smart lyrics abound It's a little sugary sweek at times, but with just nine tracks it never gets to be too much...here is a tune so you can give it a spin for yourself...enjoy. Lake - 'Heaven' MP3

On last week's edition of The Daily Graboid , I discovered a nice little gem called "Blue Ocean Blue" from a band called Lake , a five-piece from Olympia, WA. I really enjoy little pop songs like this, as it kinda reminded me of a lo-fi casiotone-happy version of Headlights . I haven't had a chance to check out their new album, Oh, the Places We'll Go , which is out on K Records , but I did check out their Daytrotter session from earlier [...]

I've yet to hear a bad record from of Montreal , and with Skeletal Lamping I expect to be listening to this one for many months to come. Have you seen all of the different packaging formats for this release? CD, LP, tote bags, button set, t-shirts, "wall clings," and "lantern wall clings" - holy crap - it's throwing in the kitchen sink and than some. Personally, I love this new direction and I think it's creative way to try and sell your product to people. Give'em something new, ya know? [...]

Reigning from Olympia, Washington, Lake is making quite a name for themselves in Indie music circles with their third record Oh, The Places We'll Go . Comprised of both male and female singers, Lake's new album is full of group harmonies, catchy guitar and piano melodies, horn players and percussionists, wrapped in synth and lathered in hand claps. That, my friend, is the beautiful ingredients to one tasty album, that will put your ear buds in shock and craving for more. On "Oh, The Places We'll Go," the first song and title [...]

John Darnielle, by Adrian Bischoff , at the Bottom of the Hill during Noise Pop 2008 A couple weeks ago I realized that I was going to be swimming in concerts for a couple weeks here, so I've been saving up my concert energy/ love/ money for this. Here's what I'm probably seeing: Tuesday October 21 : the Acorn , Ohbijou @ the Hemlock, 9pm, $10, 21+ I was intrigued by "Dents" (below) and got their album Glory Hope Mountain which [...]
Short update for today - check out Washington band Lake. Their new album "Oh, The Places We'll Go" is due out October 21, 2008. While I think it might actually be a better summer album, I guess it could work for the Fall too. It's poppy but laid back - perfect for a nice drive in the country to look at the beautiful Autumn leaves. It's simple, but there's something pleasant about its simplicity.

Sometimes when digging for gold, you forget what it was you were looking for in the first place. You dig and dig, and the dirt just keeps piling up over your head, but occasionally your shovel hits something hard and the little music fan inside you starts screaming. If you heard what I heard when I clicked on Blue Ocean Blue the first time, you'd really start screaming. The more I think about it, the more I bet your insides would sound like a loud " Yeaaaa-ahhh! " or something. Kind of a shortened exclaimation for: I can't believe [...]
For a Monday morning, we've got a bouncy bit of indie-pop. With a laissez-faire horn bassline and a little bit of cowbell (and wait, are they relying that heavily on a clap track?), Lake's "Blue Ocean Blue" is the slappy-happy end of the pop spectrum. The lyrics, that's a different story. "Always looking to obscure the most beautiful things/well, I guess that is your right/unexplainable emotions
Contrary to popular indie-rock belief, beauty and joy aren't just something obscure to be sought after in dusty record bins. They're there in nature, in everyday emotions, and in this charming indie-pop ditty from Lake . The Olympia, Wash.-based collective have recorded 12 albums, released three, and gone through multiple lineup changes, but on "Blue Ocean Blue", from their Seussically titled K Records debut, Oh, the Places We'll Go , they manage to maintain just enough guilelessness to keep their simple themes from coming across as cloying or [...]

His hair is properly groomed and coifed to 50s perfection. The Guelph-based singer-songwriter has honed his skills for the Magic—a spunky indie-pop group. "Mr Hollywood" emanates waves of orchestral, feel-good melody. Expect huge things from the Magic as they recently concluded a stint opening for Islands... 2.
