Last Thursday was a weird night. A fight broke out, I received some really good news, there was some sort of a police raid in a bar I went to, and I kept running into people I used to know. The weirdness kept on coming and coming. Luckily, so did the good bands at The Delancey, for the most part. Eola is Edwin from Tonstartssbandht. He played a few unreleased songs, and I can tell you now that when he decides to release them into the world, the blogs are going to go nuts for them. Mark my words. They're [...]

Lamedrivers have been around for eight years! Eight years! That's unbelievable. If you're not familiar with the always-slightly-under-the-rada r New York via Providence via New Jersey band, they generally stick to college rock with lots of influences from your favorite 90s alt bands like The Replacements or Guided By Voices. They're offering a 27-track retrospective for free, and are hosting a pretty excellent show at The Delancey this Thursday. Eola is Edwin of Tonstartssbandht, and you know how fondly we feel about those guys here. I've listened to some of his tunes, and it's mostly really excellent, [...]

When it comes to my 24-year-old self being proud of my 21-year-old self (not that they're that different, but I certainly don't mean to be self-congratulatory), there are few instances when I am more so than with My Teenage Stride. They were the second ever band I ever booked. I actually don't remember how it happened anymore- I think maybe I stumbled across their MySpace. Certainly no one had ever heard of them at Swarthmore (except probably this guy ), but they came and put on a solid show of really great songs. I was pretty surprised [...]

Tomorrow, Friday May 7th, Blackburn Recordings will host a night at Cake Shop as part of the beloved New York City's music venue's fifth anniversary. This party will also kick off the budding relationship between Blackburn Recordings and Connecticut's masters of hazy psychedelica Sore Eros . This show will be the 73 Release party for the new Sore Ero's record on Blackburn Recordings! I was a big fan of Sore Eros' amazing full length from last year , [...]

The cold weather has descended upon Tampa, dipping below freezing and killing the top quarter of my beautiful-gold-whatsit plants*. I'm countering Mother Nature's devious meteorological move with my usual trustworthy defense: excellent music! You may chill my bones, cold weather front, but the music warms me back to life. Well, technically it makes me dance, which then warms me back up. Close enough, in my book. * Not their scientific name Photo by Giulia Mazza Here's a track [...]

Were there not videos, photos, and eyewitness testimony , I doubt that anyone would believe this, but Dean Wells (aka The Capstan Shafts ), after 3 or 4 years and 20 or 30 releases, finally appeared in public this weekend and played a show. This is an OMG moment for the underground bedroom pop set, not unlike the first Jandek show was for ILM member or WIRE magazine readers. Anyway, False 45th has full coverage, go check it out . ::: [...]

The Lame Drivers are Matt Lemay, Joe Posner, and Jason Sigal of Get Him Eat Him, with guitarist Kevin Sparks. The Rhode Island quartet's 2005 Captain Amazing EP has been reissued by 75 or Less Records, and you can get a limited edition hand silkscreened copy with 5 bonus tracks, all for 5 bucks. It's well worth it - these guys make a noise big enough to overflow their tiny state, and with hooks
75 Or Less Records is all set to (re)release the Captain Amazing EP by Lame Drivers , a Providence band, 75% of which is composed of 60% of Get Him Eat Him . The disc was originally issued on CD-R in 2005, and this new version features 5 new bonus tracks. Jason from the band wrote to me and said that I could feel free to post any of the tracks hosted on their music page , but I simply must ignore his request. Because I'm compelled to offer [...]
...and stroke your conscience by donating to a very worthy cause. If that's your kind of language, 75 Or Less Records put a compilation of 31 tracks from 31 local bands together in a spiffy hand-silkscreened edition, and it all benefits the Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL) , which provides for the rescue and relief of suffering of homeless animals and performs charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals. The compilation is called Rock Out With Your Tail Out , [...]
