I've been waiting for this gig for about a year. Squarehead have been one of my favourite bands for absolutely ages but have only graced a Cork stage a handful of occasions, each time managing to coincide with me not being able to get along. But not this time. On [Read more]

Tweet Land Lovers , a five piece band hailing from the land of Ireland have launched their delicious second release in the form of a record called "Confidants" through the artist-based collective Popical Islands last September. Their sound is based in richly decorated pop music; said decorative touches add a significance and interest that all great pop music within this genre strives to achieve. Popical Islands itself is a DIY group of musicians [...]

Here we are. The end of the sixth year of the Nialler9 poll. Thank you all once again for voting. We had about 100 or so votes that made up the results in songs , new artists, EPs and now, the big one - albums. Our ultimate winner has topped the poll before that doesn't negate the indisputable fact that there's plenty of superb Irish music contained within this list... 25. The Ambience Affair - Burials 24. LaFaro - Easy Meat [...]
Was it another classic year in music in 2011? Does it matter? We still got to hear so much great music. Irish bands are coming on in leaps and bounds, and are mostly exceedingly generous with their music, with much of it available for free. Further afield, 2011 saw the [Read more]
It's widely accepted that 2010 was a classic year for Irish bands, one that was always going to be difficult to reciprocate. Last year, the Point of Everything did a Best Songs of 2010 list that featured a measly six Irish bands. Looking back, so many more Irish bands deserved [Read more]

Дублинские парни Land Lovers набрались храбрости и решили сделать свой второй альбом « Confidants » пластинкой для всей семьи. Поколению девяностых понравятся отсылки к Blur и Phoenix («The Cinema Bell»), для фолк-рокеров, уважающих Neutral Milk Hotel и The Decemberists, есть «Is Nowhere Far Away Anymore?», а тем, кто помнит о лучших годах Television придутся по нраву «Life's Work» и «Born in Armour».

A little bit of that Popical Island magic has rubbed off on Land Lovers ' second album Confidants . You would hope for that at least as in their capacity as some of the founding members of the collective they have raised the standard of Ireland's indie-pop output and added some semblance of a scene to it at the same time. Confidants is actually the first album recorded by Land Lovers as a band - 20082s debut was essentially a solo affair by Padraig Cooney and there's been bits and bobs since. [...]
