The fourth (count 'em) installment of my SXSW artists feature. If you're new to the game, I list some of the acts I'm excited about, with mp3s and a brief note about each. And on to the action! P-T time. Stay tuned for the grand finale later this week. Mieka Pauley - "9:453 [MP3] This Cambridge, MA artist doesn't need much of an introduction from me. Most of you know her. And if you don't, get to know her. The strength and range of her voice is stunning. [...]

Oh the love song. A good one can reduce you to tears; so can a bad one, but only because you've lost all hope in humanity's emotional response. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end to the bad ones in the world today, so I offer this little helping of some that I think are pretty good. Enjoy. mp3: The Bird and the Bee - My Love from the album Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future ( iTunes ) These two do indie-pop love songs right, and I think [...]

art from slap upside the head In the spirit of the holiday, I want to give thanks and appreciation to those who support us and those who we depend on, for the wonderful opportunities we have been afforded this year, and for all of the wonderful people in my life. I am thankful for my mother, Alt-Gramma, who has kept this blog going while I have been having a very stressful and busy few months. She is the most supportive person in my life and always willing to [...]
Last year I did a series of Songbirds which seems to have been quite popular, showcasing female artists who fall within the singer-songwriter genre which unaccountably has acquired something of a bad name among the critics. In my view, the genre has not been in a more fertile state since the 1970s. Indeed, it is probably more varied now than it was then. I've thought of doing a similar series on
Here in Minneapolis, we have this annual music festival called the Basilica Block Party. It takes place at the Basilica of Saint Mary and consists of three total stages that highlight music groups over the course of just 2 days. Most of the Basilica workers are volunteers, and pretty much every stand gives out free samples of something, so at the very least, you'll have a good time collecting

If there is one truth about the music from 2008, it is this: 2008 is a good year for cover songs. From the early year release from Cat Power to this week's EP released by Laura Gibson . in no particular order: Thao ∞ You Really Got a Hold On Me (The Mircles) Lando Pigg ∞ Young At Heart (Frank Sinatra) Shelby Lynne ∞ Just A Little Lovin' (Dusty Springfield) The Watson Twins ∞ Just Like Heaven [...]
landon pigg - falling in love at the coffee shop [ link 2 ] [how can you resist this? it's sweet and simple, swoon worthy and well... appeals to the sap in me. add to the fact that i saw this ad awhile back and finally realised that i had the track hidden in my vast collection for a few weeks! having been featured in greys anatomy and touring with gavin degraw, it was the attachment to the de beers diamond ad that finally allowed landon pigg to make a musical impression. now go on [...]
1. The New Frontiers The New Frontiers' "Mending" just fell into my mailbox recently and when I popped it into my computer for a listen, I was really pleasantly surprised. It's evocative and sad sounding.. good self reflection music. mp3: The Day You Fell Apart [The New Frontiers] The New Frontiers playing "Walking on Stones" live. Look for their [...]
This commercial has been haunting me since it came out last Christmas season: I finally found the song that creates the peaceful, romantic setting of the ad. It's called "Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop" by adorable Nashville native Landon Pigg. It's the perfect spring falling in love song and I can't get enough. Landon Pigg - "Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop"

The unfortunately named Landon Pigg has now been in jewelry commercials and Grey's Anatomy . He's awfully good at sounding similar Sondre Lerche, only slightly less poetic and a little more homogenized. He just might seduce your girlfriend. He has a nice falsetto. He's a little too "packaged" for me. He might be just right for you. You should totally ask him out. Listen: Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop Young at Heart (Frank Sinatra) [from Coffee Shop | buy ]
Here is another song perfect for today. Watch the commercial: Listen to the mp3: Landon Pigg ∞ Falling In Love In A Coffee Shop More: Commercial Thursdays Use some of you 25 FREE Downloads from eMusic to get more "commercial" music.

I couldn't find it on youtube, so just click HERE to watch it. If you like typography, you'll love this video. It's very similar to their previous video for "Dance Music" in that it all is one continuous shot blending into one another, only with this video it actually is a single shot from start to finish. The Mountain Goats - Saw Rohmer #1 P.S. I don't know about you, but I love this song by Landon Pigg . You [...]
I've always held a special place in my heart for boys that make noise. There's something alluring and endearing about a man who can share himself in song. Here are tracks from the seventeen (plus one) troubadours that got me twitterpated in 2007… Fionn Regan - "Be Good or Be Gone" Landon Pigg - "Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop" Joshua James - "You're the Cocaine" Eric Hutchinson - "Ok,

In honour of May 24 and cottages and the like, here is this. Water, beaches, sailing, whatever. THOSE things. Those things the loser boating community can't experience because of this shit weather, which makes me pretty happy, though I'm sure the boaters don't care about that or anything else really (which is a boater characteristic, they all have it, even kayakers). You know, I want a boat! If anyone has any information on how I could get myself one and live on it forever without getting attacked by pirates or sea police or water [...]
