Looking to brighten up your day? I think i've got a solution for you. His name is Langhorne Slim , and while many of you will know him, I invite you to take this opportunity to revisit an old friend. Though there is one relatively new Slim track I would like to showcase, first let me draw your attention back to his third album, Be Set Free , released a couple years ago. With song's including I Love You, [...]

Mark down my first show of 2012 as a great one. I haven't seen Langhorne Slim live since Robert Schneider snuck me into his 2005 show at the Dame when I was underage. And while he was a good live show then, the past seven years of Grade A songwriting have moved Langhorne into a [...]
Yes, we made a list of our favorite lists // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
Langhorne Slim settled in Portland a short time back, and last year he hosted a New Year's Eve show here in town. He's continuing the tradition this year, this time with the Builders and the Butchers on board as well, at the Bagdad Theater. Langhorne Slim and the Law have just finished recording their latest record, The Way We Move , up in the Catskills at Old Soul Studios. That record, which was culled from more than 25 tracks that Slim & Co. laid to tape, is due out on May 22 of next [...]

So, I've kinda had it with the kickstarter stuff. I feel like every project out there is doing it instead of putting in their dues. However, on occasion an exception comes up and this is one of them. Langhorne Slim is one of my favorite people. He's one hell of a performer and one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting in this business. I'll go to his shows every chance I get. As you may have guessed by this point, Langhorne Slim is making a new record and [...]

Langhorne Slim & The Law, with Matrimony / Mr. Small's / 10.04.2011 / 8:00 / $13 Words by Vicki I don't watch a lot of music videos nowadays, besides the Lady Gaga extravaganzas, but I was first introduced to Langhorne Slim via music video. Watch, and meet me on the other side: Langhorne Slim , "Restless" . Intrigued? I certainly was, and not just by the weird log dude, but by Mr. Slim's rough, scratchy voice and [...]

Today's newly announced shows include dates for Toronto electro duo Zeds Dead , locally-based festival favorite Langhorne Slim , indie-folk world fusion [...]

And the parade continues... I forget how much fun I had making these. Blogophilia 11 was released in September 2009. If you've been following along, you should have noticed that I am deep in my "Intro" phase for mixes. I am not sure why I stopped that. Maybe that's something to consider for next mix. The highlights for #11 are All the Kings Men by Wild Beasts and Sleep All Summer by The National and Saint Vincent . I apologize for putting the Pete Yorn tune on [...]

photos by Eric M. Townsend Langhorne Slim and band brought their brand of folk pop to Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday (8/6) with an opening set by The Woes . The show was the same day that Kevin Barnes of Of Montreal (aka List Christee) DJ'd the venue , which was one day before Of Montreal didn't play Escape to NY . More pictures [...]
There are legions of folk artists influenced by the genre's early roots, from Appalachian groundwork to intersections of bluegrass and jug bands. Some are committed to the influences that struck them the most growing up, passionate artists with little more than a guitar and coarse vocals, to the point where any recent production trend that [...]

Last week we covered a new track from Portland folk outfit Death Songs called "Wounds" off the new PDX Pop Now! compilation. We talked a little bit about the band and the song, and had a few words to say about the organization as well. That wasn't enough; it's high time I let slip a little something - we here at FensePost have been quiet supporters of the Portland festival. Visit the music room in my house and you'll see several from the compilation [...]

Singer-songwriter, and recent Portland transplant, Langhorne Slim headlines this Saturday's show at the Doug Fir Lounge. En route to a gig in Seattle, he took a few minutes to talk with us about his ongoing tour, move to the city, favorite local musicians, and what's next on his recording agenda-- including a new album. Karyn-Lynn Fisette caught up with Slim. KF : Since the last time I saw you perform, you've gone vegan, quit smoking, survived the mustache craze and moved to Portland. What was the impetus for so many life [...]
