Lapko 's latest didn't leave me with a very strong first impression, but after setting it aside for a few months, I find myself really enjoying it. While far less direct/obvious than previous release "Young desire" (opener "This is aggressive melancholy" said it all in title alone), "A new Bohemia" benefits from a far more developed sense of craftsmanship and confidence. Lapko has sadly dropped off the Disco Ensemble tour halfway through, so they've cancelled their appearance at the upcoming IAT! Clubnight in Malmö later this month, but lucky for you we've got Blinders On stepping in in their place. Expect a new 7" from those guys soon, too!

Are you a fan of music from Finland? Probably not. Should you be? Probably. The band LAPKO hails from this otherwise forgotten country (here is the U.S. at least) and is better than most of the shit you've been listening to lately. Their 2007 release, Young Desire , features stand-out tracks such as "This Is An Aggressive Melancholy" and the title track "Young Desire" that can be heard on their MySpace page . This is yet to be available in the U.S., but for your sake I hope that changes soon. [...]

Lapko is a band I stumbled across recently, somewhat randomly (thanks for the totebag Daniel!). I had seen their name before, but had never fully investigated due to their affiliation with Fullsteam Records, one of Finland's biggest indie labels. I know that it's unfounded (and unfair), but I can't shake my prejudice that they only put out watered-down punk/hardcore records from bands like Disco Ensemble . Anyhow, Lapko proves to be an exception (along with Downstairs , Callisto and many other bands the label represents) and their most recent album "Young desire" [...]
When a band is described to me as "it's a bit like Coheed and Cambria ; it's a bit like Mew , but so much more" - you know I'm there! Although I've chosen a song that doesn't exactly represent too many similarities to the aforementioned bands, you will notice the styles in some of their other tracks.
