Facebook / kellies.bandcamp.com/ Last June I went to see Argentinian trio Las Kellies on whim, I'd heard a track before and it sounded just my thing so I went along to their show at Madame Jo Jo's and it ended up being one of the most fun, engaging shows I saw all year, a whirlwind of short, sharp energetic tunes that left you short of breathe and happy and if that's not the point of live music, then I don't know what is. The good news (and reason for this [...]

This is a long time coming. Suffice to say, it's been almost a whole year, but Fire Records released the LP, "Kellies," by Argentinean girls, Las Kellies . Despite the album's garage rock tendencies and purring vocals, the strengths of the release rest on the instrumental takes and slower numbers. I wouldn't mind seeing more tracks in Spanish, however, I'll take "Perro Rompebolas," any day and the fourteen song album clocks in at under thirty two minutes. How's that for brevity? Las Kellies take what the Waitresses did and crafted instrumental gems as an added dimension. [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , Q + A Courtesy Team Clermont In the late '70s, as the once-revolutionary three-chord thrash of the Clash and Sex Pistols grew passe, a shift occurred in underground circles. Feeling hemmed in by rock formalism, a new crop of bands began filtering punk's minimalism through other styles of music, experimenting with disco, hip-hop, dub and African pop. Among the groundbreaking groups to emerge during this time were [...]

When was the last time you listened to an album and immediately thought, "Holy crap, are those guys having a blast or what? For me, it was the last time I listened to Las Kellies' second album, "Kellies." Let's get this out of the way right away: The lyrics are clunky (when they're decipherable), largely consisting of chants and silliness. The vocals aren't harmonies, they're more like three girls who happen to be shouting the same thing at the same time. It's not even rap. Overall, it sounds amateurish. With lots of cowbell. Now [...]

This is a picture of Sarabeth Tucek. She makes music that's kinda of a downer, but it's like listening to aural agony, and it's amazing right after a late night of drinking with friends or if you just ran over a squirrel or something like that. Anyway, I thought this picture was just all kinds [...]

Kellies, Las Kellies Fire Records, Argentina Rating: 72 by Carlos Reyes My most recent post on AltLatino is inspired by Piyama Party's "Bandas de Chicas," a generational song that acknowledges the recent flourishing of all-girl rock bands within our Iberoamerican niche. In that article I shortlisted bands like Spain's Aias, Costa Rica's Las Robertas, and Mexico's Ruido Rosa. I also highlighted an all-grrrl (notice the three r's) power band that has been getting plenty of global buzz lately. Ceci Kelly, Betty [...]

Las Kellies From: Buenos Aires, Argentina I have a confession to make. I'm not that well up on the Argentinean music scene. I know that you probably expect your reviewers to have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of even the most obscure avenues of music but I've racked my brains to recall the names of any Argentinean bands that have become household names and drawn a blank. I've scoured my extensive record collection for any hint of an Argentinean influence and come up with nothing, nada, zilch. Well that is about [...]

http://kellies.bandcamp.com/ Hot on the heels of seeing Costa Rican garage-rock band Las Robertas I went to see Argentina's Las Kellies (they seem to have added the 'Las' recently, their older branding simply Kellies) playing at White Heat last Tuesday. Las Kellies, just like Las Robertas the night before surfed up a wonderful blend of indie-reggae-punk-garage rock & roll, combining three way vocal interchanges in both English and Spanish during a compulsive, charming and highly energetic show. In fact their setlist showed they scuttled through twenty-six tracks in their forty-five minute set-time, quite [...]
Mondays are for getting fresh starts. Marlon Rando - 'Weird Science' Braidwood Pond - 'Wear Your Inside Out' Las Kellies - 'Perro Rompebolas' Jackie-O Motherfucker - 'Where We Go' Armand Margjeka - 'Alive'

Here's a new track from a three piece Argentinian band, Las Kellies. "Perro Rompebolas,"a track from their forthcoming LP, Kellies [Fire Records], hits like a quick splash of ice-cold water to the face. The confidence that Las Kellies exude in this minute and a half of explosive energy is simply infectious and fun. Its spritely bass line and sharp delivery make "Perro Rompebolas" a sure-fire, let-loose, summer jam. So, get busy out there... There's partying to be done. Las Kellies // Perro Rompebolas Kellies is out on July 5th. Perfect timing, if [...]

This is kind of a repeat except it's on a different label. Last year I was hit over the head with killer record from Las Kellies an all girl band from Argentina who all take the last name Kelly the way the Ramones all adopted the surname Ramone. Kellies was their third album but my introduction to them. The record is now getting a US release on 5 July courtesy of Fire records. Kellies melded angular post punk riffs from the likes of Wire via Elatica with the fat beats [...]
From the 'box: Would love to see Las Kellies open for a band like Jail Weddings and just kitsch it the hail up. Picturing a stage atop a giant fuzzy dice, etc. The three piece band sings in both English and Argentinan, and their album Kellies comes out on July 5th. Las Kellies: Perrorompebolas.mp3
