New video from Costa Rica's Las Robertas, "In Between Buses" is taken from one of my favorite lp's from last year "Cry Out Loud". Watch | Las Robertas - In Between Buses

lasrobertas .bandcamp.com / Facebook Until Monday if I were to have been asked to name a band from Costa Rica my face would have gone blank, however I can now name one, and a very good one at that, Las Robertas hail from the Central American Country and I saw them play their debut UK show at probably my favourite London venue, The Lexington. I found myself there not to see Las Robertas (I'd not heard of them until that day) but Echo Lake. [...]

Time for another installment of Monday Music - the only post where SOIWT deviates from its London-only focus: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain Last night a friend bullied me into going to the Michael Clark Company 's Tate Modern performance, a contemporary dance show featuring professional ballerinas and hastily-trained, flawles s amateurs pirouetting and prancing over a stark soundtrack (including this edgy George Clinton number). I had many thoughts about the show, from Gatsby parallels to Saturday Night Fever recollections to adoration of its punkish tribute [...]

A teraz do [...]
![[Listen/Download] – New Song By Slow Animal – "Summer's Going To Hurt"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3435705_lg.jpg)
Tweet It's been a hot minute since New Jersyan char-broiling Garage-Rock duo Slow Animal dropped any new tracks but today that allllll changed. Announcing that the song will be a part of a compilation being released in the U.K. with Las Robertas, Warm Brains, and The Proper Ornaments, they also mentioned that it'll be on their debut album being released in the Summer. Actually the last time we had any new music from them was last October and even then [...]

I don't mean to be all "Las Robertas all the time," but this is THE show to be at this Saturday night. This new group called the Pita Gods have started putting together shows, and this is a helluva show to start off with. It's a who's who of upcoming Brooklyn talent (seriously, Sweet Bulbs, Sunny Ali & The Kid, and Telenovelas are three bands that are going to be in the next crop of Brooklyn exports, in a big way, even if that way is a bit overhyped) plus a really, really sweet out of town band. And if [...]

The drought is over! The prodigal music industry employees return! While they're all nursing their hangovers (both from alcohol and tacos) and sleeping all day because they had a 6AM flight back from Austin on Saturday night, we will jubilantly rejoice at the first good shows in what seems like a long, long time. Take this Wednesday night at Union Hall. Las Robertas are from Cost Rica, so you're not going to get a lot of chances to catch these guys. Their fun mix of punk and 60s girl group inspired music will make for a FUN Wednesday [...]

David Forth Dávila 666 is a garage punk band from Puerto Rico who sing in Spanish over fuzzed-out guitars and a rollicking rhythm section. Bassist A.J. joins us to talk about the benefits of always being able to see in 3-D and the benefits of always doing what you wanna. This interview by Kristina Benson. I was looking at the video for 'Tu.' Do a lot of Puerto Rican bands make music videos that depict them performing cunnilingus on their girlfriends and then killing people? [...]

Costa Rica's Las Robertas were one of the busiest bands at SXSW, playing more parties than I could keep track of, so I'm grateful that they could spare some time to talk to me after their set at Shangri-La. Despite the band's self-diagnosed group ADD which punctuated our conversation with waving at friends and random bursts of laughter, I enjoyed hearing about their music, their plans, and their love for their home country. Blanca Méndez: You guys just played Festival Nrmal, right? How'd it go? Franco Valenciano: [...]

After the Sounds from Spain showcase, I've decided that sangria is the breakfast of champions. I mean, if you're going to be daytime drunk, might as well do it right. Polock kicked off the showcase with a quick set for those of who woke up early enough to catch them. They played with a great morning-appropriate energy that built up to the closer, "Fireworks," which, while it wasn't a Katy Perry cover, was exuberant nonetheless. Capsula followed and drew a surprisingly large crowd. Who knew people still liked pop punk like that? I wasn't as into it as everyone else, [...]

Covert Curiosity and The Reverberation Appreciation Society have teamed up to bring you a free night of psychedelic exploration at Emo's on Monday, March 14. Start your south-by with a bang and catch sets from Seattle psych trio the Night Beats, Austin's own Shapes Have Fangs, Costa Rican female garage rockers Las Robertas, Chicago psych quintet Secret Colours, reverb enthusiast Christian Bland, and the Portland surf-punk trio Guantanamo Baywatch. Scott Conn and Oswald James will be on hand to provide visual accompaniment via digital video and oil projections. The show [...]

Quick Download is our weekly post bringing you a track, old or new, that we have been obsessing over recently. "In Between Buses" was already one of the best songs on Las Robertas' self-title debut last year, but this remix from Venezuela's Ezequiel "Cheky" Bertho, a.k.a. Algodon Egipcio (Egyptian Cotton), is spell-binding. Removing the fuzzed-up aspect of the song and focusing in on the lo-fi Costa Rican starlet's ethereal vocals, the song takes on this passive, yet arresting quality. It's as if it's become a chillwave anthem and I can guarantee the vibes will be [...]

My adoration of Costa Rica's Las Robertas increases tenfold by the day. Or, at least it will do, if they keep pumping out material like this. 20102s seminal Cry Out Loud has had me hooked, I had a good interview with them in December and now this amazing track? "Ojos Con Dientes" packs the same punch as the best songs on their debut and leaves you wanting a hell of a lot more. I'm just praying that they end up playing gigs in London after this . Filed under: [...]

Las Robertas "Ojos Con Dientes" Gran Derby Spain's Reina Republicana and Costa Rica's Las Robertas are sharing 7'' split released on Madrid's new indie label Gran Derby. Esta Pasando! just premiered both tracks, and as expected, the two sides are filled with great ladies lo-fi. We're all very familiar with Las Robertas by now, and pretty much hoped for them to sing in Spanish (at least once in a while), well, the girls have finally done it in "Ojos Con Dientes." The [...]
