Kieran posted about Late of the Pier back in July and now their latest, ' Bathroom Gurgle ' has surfaced on Pitchfork . Those 80's influences are there all right but not in the obvious current trend of bleeps and bops being implored by the likes of Mr. Calvin Harris. ' Bathroom Gurgle ' swings from Miami Vice chase music to modern day Flash Gordon epic goodness. Expect great things. This is a proper 80's revival but then again the boys are probably sick of hearing that. [...]
Sometimes we have to hold our breath while typing. It's not that the Pinglepad smells especially bad (not always) it's just a rare day when we're cable of doing more than one thing at a time. So it's either breathing............or blogging
The postie brought glad tidings this morning, with the new single from Late of the Pier - released as part of the Moshi Moshi Singles Club. The singles club concept seems to be enjoying a renaissance recently, and though I keep hearing of new ones it seems that the impeccable taste of Moshi Moshi is most ideally suited to the format. Already we've had 7"s from Kate Nash, Matt & Kim and

Image: Suzanne Clements High Score - Eugene McGuinness Singing-songwriting wunderkind Eugene McGuinness gets compared to The Shins, and perhaps rightfully so: He has a similar easy melodicism and a wordwordwordiness. But wrongfully so if you consider the po-facedness of said Shins, their tendency to take themselves just a bit seriously. Because McGuinness is an ironist, a jester of clever asides, a greeter of misfortune with devil's horns and funny glasses. And this is cool, this [...]

It is only natural that I would feature bands that feature "late" in their names. Thus completing the name of this blog (minus the "the"). Only eight bands that I found/dug. The Come Latelys ~ Angie Late Night Radio ~ Songs About A Girl Late Night Venture ~ Pay The Moon Latebirds ~ Talking to Myself Late of the Pier ~ Space and The Woods The Late Arrival Band ~ Hazy Day's [...]

These are the last of the bands that can be called Thamesbeat Thamesbeat came, and Thamesbeat went. Way Out West died a glorious death at the hands of the licensing laws. And a whole generation of musicians were left homeless. There was a brief period of upheaval. Bands had to find new homes, promoters had to find new venues, and the fans had to find new off licences. Way Out West tried, unsuccessfully, to find a permanent replacement to the Stripes Bar, meanwhile reinventing itself as [...]
Checa o pulso! Nada? Batimentos cardíacos? Xiii...
Hey guys, thanks for all the lovely feedback on my last couple of posts. Some of you seem to love the electro remixes and stuff, others of you prefer the more indie songs. Me? I'm split down the middle, so what I'll try and do from now on is post something from both sides, each week. You're lucky - three tracks this week! It's great to get feedback from people, so if you get a song off us and you think it's amazing, please pop back and let us know. Conversely, if you absolutely hate it, then you should tell [...]
The Neon Plastix just might be the next big thing in UK (Sheffield) indie/dance music. Their new songs keep pace right along with the Klaxons and dish out that day-glo new rave sound. But, at moments they remind me more of L.A. dance-rockers Moving Units. No matter how I try to pigeon-hole it, I love it. I can't stop listening. Enjoy the new ones: The Neon Plastix - Gentlemans Gold ( Download ) [.M4A] The Neon Plastix - 18-30s ( Download ) [.M4A] [...]

By Henri Cartier-Bresson I dream of instruments obedient to my thought and which with their contribution of a whole new world of unsuspected sounds, will lend themselves to the exigencies of my inner rhythm - Edgard Varese Math Head - " Do Damage " (Passions Remix) Ssion - " Clown " (Iggybaby Remix) Tomboy - " Flamingo " (Tomboy Remix) Ursula 1000 - " Electrik Boogie " (Product.01 Remix) Naive New Beaters - " Bang Bang " (Yuksek Remix) Fiasco - [...]
I guess i'm a bit reluctant to post this, cos despite banging on about Justice from pretty much the day I started the blog, they've reached a level of success now that means my banging on about them any further becomes a bit irrelevent. But shit, this is just too good. It's a version of D.A.N.C.E. from the forthcoming Justice smash. The boys have the sound of the summer wrapped up yet again....
Cat Power, "The Greatest" - Not many people know this about me, but all through my middle-school years my family was in the paper on a fairly regular basis for some unembellishedly horrible stuff. I'm not going to be going into the specifics since they're not particularly germane (although if you want a ballpark idea, try to envision the family situation trailing only incest and cannibalism in terms of likelihood to humiliate you in front of your seventh-grade peers and you're on the right track) ; we've all got our things, even if we [...]

pic: bastien lattanzio Currently residing in Berlin, Jesse Rose is often seen as the more minimal and, well, 'Berlin' member of the Dubsided clan. Far from an outsider though, Jesse can also make some serious boompty boomp (Or as Ben Skull Juice might say, boomptinimal? ) action when he wants to, just like the rest of the gang (shouts to Herve et al!). This track lives up to it's name, and does the job or making just about anything more plesant... A dancefloor, a solitary cup of tea, a bit of downhill skiing ... If [...]

I think they call it "new rave" or something. Bands like The Klaxons and Datarock are putting a space age twist on the British dance rock scene, one where glowsticks are not entirely ironic and the '80s wardrobes are adorned by those not around the first time. Nottingham's Late Of The Pier have not so quietly been storming UK dance clubs, most famously London's Way Out West club night. The band pushes techno on its back, kicks electro in its face and rips indie a new asshole, and it's all done in that [...]

WTF?! Heirplanes is a new song from Lupe Fiasco's indie rock side project, Japanese Cartoon . The song itself is good enough but that's not why I'm posting it. The reason I'm posting Heirplanes is because of Chicago-born Lupe Fiasco's terrible faux British accent. Even British people don't sound that British when they sing. Why does he insist on sounding out each "i" as an "ie". But don't take it from me only, below I've also included Space And The Woods by English dance punk rockers Late of the Pier . Listen [...]
