The HBO hit drama True Blood delivers another great soundtrack.
L'Avventura provides this season's second cover of The Zombies' 'She's Not There.'
Emotionally upbeat and nostalgically charming the way Bend Sinister surround their central keyboard reliance with a wider modern rock feel. Warming vocals, exceptional confidence in musical style, these guys could play just about anything. San Francisco-based L'Avventura is a seven-piece ensemble that started as two subway buskers in London. A few years, a couple hundred demos and five members later, they've released a debut record and are building a reputation in their new hometown. 2009's Your Star Was Shining combines disparate influences ( T-Rex, Nick Drake, Stereolab, Roxy Music to name a few) generating praise from local and national blogs (and inclusion in our Best of the Bay Area mix series). L'Avventura continue their weekly residency at 33 [...]

Spring time. Flowers, baby chicks, and Easter Egg Hunts. When a young man's fancy turns to love or a young Rippler's fancy turns to finding some new cool sounds to bring in that mellow, fresh, birds-are-singing, flowers-are-blooming, tree-are-greening vibe. (Yeah, I don't know what that last one meant either, but you get the gist.) It's spring and we at the Ripple are fired up. The beach outside our office window looks warm and invitin g and we need some music to play on our iblaster. [...]

Time once again, oh fearless waverider, for another installment of one of our favorite column, The D.I.Y. Ethic, our ode to all the multipulously talented folk out there that divide their time between the day job and the basement studio. (and in case you're wondering, yes, I did just make up that word, but it certainly seems to fit). And have we got an assortment for you today. That's one of the things that thrills us the most about the D.I.Y. musician-- there is no end to the limits of their muse. It seems that [...]

Here's a treat for all you north-east bay folks. San Francisco rock band L'Avventura is hosting a series acoustic-based "Living Room Sessions" at 33 Revolutions , a record store/cafe/wine-bar in El Cerrito. L'Avventura - "Rocket Sue" Each week, L'Avventura will be joined by a different musical guest, for an evening of "melodic retro/futurist popmusic," in an intimate setting. The events are free and all-ages. L'Avventura plays a unique and soothing brand of rock music, pulled together by the relaxed vocals of Jeff Davis. [...]

That`s right, the San Francisco seven-piece are offering the exceptional `Your Star Was Shining` as a free album download till 30th April. L`Avventura write songs about emotion, initiating a curious open invitation to maybe pull up a chair and hang out. You`ll learn to cherish the perky string arrangements, rolling landscape percussion and warming Elvis Costello clichés. I struggled to pick one track to post, settling for three in the end and half resisting posting the whole damn lot. An audacious release, a scrumptious collection of laid back T-rextasy. [...]
This month's mixtape is Part Two of our "Best of the Bay Area" mix that we started last month (find Part One here). We had set out to make a single mix that encapsulated the local scene, but there's just too much depth of talent in San Francisco to reduce down to an 80-minute primer. While last month's mix featured the best of the local indie-rock and indie-pop scene, this month's installment focuses mostly on slower, more folk-influenced choices. This batch features several mainstays of the San Francisco scene — including Mark Kozelek [...]

Our latest Monthly Mix episode of the weekly podcast features eight great Bay Area bands, including a lot of good stuff from new and recent releases. Before getting into the episode's contents, we hope to see you at our third birthday bash at the Rickshaw Stop on Thursday, February 5th ( more info here )! About all of the bands: Burbank International ("Chicken Shoals") initially started as a humorous side project for local musician H.A. Eugene, but it's blossomed into something serious with the release of [...]

L'eclisse (The Eclipse) is a 1962 film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. It is considered the last of a trilogy that also includes L'avventura and La Notte . At the dawn of 10 July 1961 a young literary translator, Vittoria (Monica Vitti) breaks her relationship with a writer and the beginning of a summer romance with Piero (Alain Delon), an energetic young stockbroker. They are incapable of forming a stable relationship, and shortly before sunset at 20:00, 10 September 1961, they seem not to answer, as agreed at the corner of Viale [...]
From their soon to be released (Feb. 15, 2009) album "Your Star Was Shining" Listening to this song, it's hard to believe L'Avventura is a 7-piece from San Francisco - although it comes as no surprise that they formed on a so-called 'tube-tour' in London (busking around the underground, picking up band members as they went!), such is the vast plane of British musical influences present here. The song is a glorious mix of layered Beatles-style vocals, chord structure and backing vocals which hark back to mid-'90s Suede, and an overall feel [...]
It's not a movement yet, but busker music might be heading into trend territory, from out of the UK toward the West Coast. If the starting point was last year's Oscar darlings, Glen...
Everybody loves a Roxy Music tune. Commuters, dashing through the London Underground will deftly dodge the pony-tailed busker yowling "Fire And Rain". But these same harried nine-to-fivers will screech to a halt and even miss their train, for Roxy's "Virginia Plain". Ask Jeff Davis. On an extended London visit to collaborate with legendary guitar-friend Andy Gill (Gang of Four) in 1999, Davis spent daytimes in the King's Cross Underground, singing tunes from the satellite-radio station in his head. One Tuesday, Davis' version of the Roxy classic "Mother of Pearl" KO'd fellow-busker Fergus Griffin on Platform 2, and Griffin's [...]

L'aventurra (The adventure) is a film of the 1960 Italians directed from Michelangelo Antonioni and developed from its action plan it begins them. It has a novelistic structure in which a mystery there centers apparently important gradually is forgotten and left not resolved. The history begins like two young women, Anna(Lea Massari) and Claudia(Monica Vitti), gathering in on for a travel of the yacht. Going to take to the lover Sandro(Gabriel Ferzetti) of Anna, the three join two rich braces from Rome on the boat and wrap in on visit Lisca Bianca , a volcanic island nearly unpopulated [...]

Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham - I Deserve It So, this is good news; The now out of print debut album by Luna's Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham , L'Avventura, is set to be reissued this September. I wasn't aware of this, but apparently Jetset Records (former home of Luna , Mogwai , Arab Strap , Death By Chocolate , The Go-Betweens and plenty more) hasn't been functioning for some time. That's really a shame. When I was Music Director at WRFL in [...]
