Brendan Kelly of The Lawrence Arms has written a somber and somewhat lengthy blog posting about " malfunctioning computers " and the long-term consequences to the country. He explained: Here on earth, when you're born, you're issued a computer. [...] Some people's computers start out fine, but then someone else with a faulty computer goes in and rewires it and fucks their computer all up in the process. In short, there are a lot of extremely powerful computers out there, with unbelievable potential that are malfunctioning. The funny thing is, here in America, we've [...]

One of the songs is called "Seventeener". Kelly described the new album as a "surprise", saying it is in the traditional Lawrence Arms fashion in that it will be different from their previous releases. Look, I don't know. ...Pitch black spiraling and inventive cry baby music - Hamish Adams (Bangers) I was first introduced to Sam Russo just over a year ago when he played a house show in Manchester. I'd been sent a little of his music in preparation and I loved it. The recordings were rough, but his talent for songwriting was immediately apparent. This became even clearer after watching him play live. I now understood why so many people were excited that he was in town. After his set, I remember drunkenly introducing myself and buying a t-shirt. For some reason, he gave me [...]
To celebrate the birth of their burgeoning side projects, Dan Andriano and Brendan Kelly have headed out on tour in Europe. The Chicagoan pair have been playing sold out show after sold out show here in the UK (alongside, friend of The Ruckus, Sam Russo) and are just a few days away from crossing into the mainland. As a gift to us all, the pair put together a split EP, aptly titled, ‘European Vacation’. ‘The Radiator’, my favourite of the two tracks, is a wholly acoustic effort from Dan Andriano [In The Emergency Room]. It’s simple, poignant and [...]

Photo by Katie Hovland Three run, don't walk, reasons to get over to Township tonight... 1. As far as Chicago supergroups go, Treasure Fleet is pretty low-key, keeping most of its music hidden from view except for a few collage-like videos posted to YouTube. The quintet features Eli Caterer of Smoking Popes, Neil Hennessy of The Lawrence Arms, Mike Oberlin of Sass Dragons and Isaac Thotz and Dave Merriman of the Arrivals. Treasure Fleet taps into the members' softer sides, opting for a more sunny, funny surf-inspired [...]
Brendan Kelly can be called many things but, "unproductive," is not one of them. Kelly has been recording music since the age of 10, touring in bands since high school, appeared on dozens of albums and somewhere found time to graduate college. Now, Kelly leads a bit more formatted lifestyle but has managed to stay productive and connected, first through his blog ( The Bad Sandwich Chronicles ) and more recently with a short film ( The Spirit of Transparency ) and the release of his solo debut, I'd Rather Die Than Live Forever . Older, darker and [...]
