Lay Low - The Backbone

Lay Low - The Backbone Facebook / laylow.is/ A way overdue posting now, Lay Low was the first act I saw in 2013, supporting Daughter in Brighton last month. I didn't know too much about her before the show but her gorgeous, charming and intimate show won me over sufficiently to spend the last cash in my wallet on her CD after the show. Lay Low is Icelandic singer/songwriter Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (copy and pasted!) and has three albums going back to 2006, I'm going to concentrate on her latest release, last years "The Backbone" here... Lay Low - The Backbone (Official Video)
Posted in Play-This-List Lay Low, aka Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir, is an Icelandic singer/songwriter who was picked up by a record label after uploading a track to her MySpace. What followed was a chart topping album, Please Don't Hate Me, and three Icelandic Music Awards. That was 2006, back when MySpace was still popular, but she's produced a handful of [...]

Shovels & Rope - Lay Low (Live at Pickathon)
Fumbling through all of the letters and the notes, the ones that you wrote. What caused me to be so detached completely? It won't get too lonely, though. I'm good now.  We go through our day and get by and get through. Lay low, baby. Lay low. You won't be back anytime soon. Good luck in Nashville with your pedal steel and that pen in your hand... ** BUY [...]

Shovels & Ropes - O' Be Joyful

Shovels & Rope - "O' Be Joyful"
South Carolina-based couple Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent make up Shovels & Rope , a perfectly raw, ragged, rough-and-ready duo creating rootsy folk rock muddied with a broad swath of rich, organic Americana. The pair's lo-fi and raucous live shows, blessed with a free-wheeling, on-the-fly attitude and a loosely packed but palpable chemistry, have taken them from club-to-club, coast-to-coast. Wielding guitars and an assortment of harmonicas while banging on a junkyard refugee drum kit, Hearst and Trent have created their own brand of country-tinged "righteous racket" on stage and their forthcoming longplayer O' [...]

Lay Low: The Backbone

Lay Low: The Backbone Lay Low is the alter-ego of Icelandic singer/songwriter Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir, born in London to a Sri Lankan father and Icelandic mother Lay Low came about in 2006, after Lovísa was contacted by a local label that picked up on a raw demo that she had uploaded onto MySpace. Not one to waste an opportunity, LAY LOW’s debut album ‘Please Don’t Hate Me’ was released that same year. An intoxicating take on classic Americana sounds, the record topped the Icelandic charts and became the bestselling original album in the country, winning no less than 3 Icelandic Music Awards. [...]

LAY LOW HAS FOUND HER VOICE

LAY LOW HAS FOUND HER VOICE By and By - Lay Low // Buy Johnny Cash could be heard crooning in the background as Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir and I sat huddled in a dark corner at Webster Hall. The coincidence was striking. Lovísa is increasingly well known as Lay Low   (@lovisalaylow), and though she may be a shy, soft-spoken Icelander, the influence of classic American blues and folk music rings loud and clear in her songs. “I had this phase where I just collected so many great old [...]

Live Review: Of Monsters and Men with Lay Low @ Showbox SODO 3/26

Live Review: Of Monsters and Men with Lay Low @ Showbox SODO 3/26 photo by Dave Lichterman Monday night's show with Of Monsters and Men felt like a sort of homecoming. Though the Icelandic group had never before been to Seattle and is currently on their very first official tour of the United States, there's been a lot leading up to their sold-out show at Showbox SoDo. We had first witnessed Of Monsters and Men in 2010 during Iceland Airwaves and immediately began to champion the band . By the time we'd caught up with them a year later , they were the most buzzed [...]

Lay Low - Vonin

Lay Low - Vonin Sometimes you just need your definition of pretty to be a simple song of hope sung in another language. In this case, the other language is Icelandic and the title of the song means does actually mean "hope". Lay Low is Lovísa Sigrúnardóttir, and while two of her previous albums were in english, this icelandic album is somehow more intriguing. You can stream the entire album on soundcloud . Find more on her website . Vonin by [...]
