Facebook / laylow.is/ A way overdue posting now, Lay Low was the first act I saw in 2013, supporting Daughter in Brighton last month. I didn't know too much about her before the show but her gorgeous, charming and intimate show won me over sufficiently to spend the last cash in my wallet on her CD after the show. Lay Low is Icelandic singer/songwriter Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (copy and pasted!) and has three albums going back to 2006, I'm going to concentrate on her latest release, last years "The Backbone" here... Lay Low is the alter-ego of Icelandic singer/songwriter Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir, born in London to a Sri Lankan father and Icelandic mother Lay Low came about in 2006, after Lovísa was contacted by a local label that picked up on a raw demo that she had uploaded onto MySpace. Not one to waste an opportunity, LAY LOW’s debut album ‘Please Don’t Hate Me’ was released that same year. An intoxicating take on classic Americana sounds, the record topped the Icelandic charts and became the bestselling original album in the country, winning no less than 3 Icelandic Music Awards. WXPN's first Artist To Watch for 2012 is the Icelandic band Of Monsters And Men . They make their Philadelphia debut at the TLA on Tuesday, April 3rd. In this case, the other language is Icelandic and the title of the song means does actually mean "hope".
