Rock it Out! Blog recently caught up with Bosnian Rainbows , the new band led by Omar Rodríguez-López and Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes, prior to their show at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. We spoke about the state of The Mars Volta, the formation of Bosnian Rainbows, and how Teri feels connected to outer space when performing. Make sure to follow Rock it Out! Blog on Twitter and Facebook , and subscribe to its YouTube channel .

Between various solo projects and his work with At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta, Omar Rodríguez-López has compiled a discography that some rockers couldn't if given three lifetimes. His latest effort comes in the form of Octopus Kool Aid , which features vocals and lyrics from Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes . The 10-track effort was recorded in February 2011, but "sat in the wild strawberries vault" until now. Stream the entire record below, or snag your copy at Rodríguez-López's Bandcamp page for a cool $6.99.

Yes, we know it's been over a couple of weeks since the second annual Neon Desert Music Festival in my hometown of El Paso, but sometimes life gets in the way. C=T correspondent, Uncle Harry, took in multiple shows and endured the triple digit heat to give us the low-down on what went down in San Jacinto Plaza. Neon Desert 2012 Colors of neon pink, black and green only helped to foreshadow the highly energized and spiritedly eclectic crowed that came together for the 2012 Neon Desert Musical Festival. Held during [...]

With Empty Bottle and Subterranean curating the stages, Do Division is one of the better neighborhood festivals in Chicago for live music. This weekend's lineup is pretty good. Black Belles headlines one stage, while JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound gets top billing on the other tonight (Friday). Saturday is packed with ATYP-approved bands, including Craig Finn, Besnard Lakes and Mannequin Men. Le Butcherettes headline . Antlers are one of two headliners Sunday. See the full schedule here .

My Gold Mask | Photo Credit: Drew Reynolds Happy June, y'all! This weekend kicks off street fest season. We lovingly compiled a list of our 12 Chicago Street Festivals to attend in 2012 and Do-Division leads the pack with artists like Black Belles, Peanut Butter Wolf, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound and many more like Le Butcherettes, who are also headlining Subterranean tonight. But this weekend isn't just about festivals, we're also talking My Gold Mask at the Hideout, Scott Lucas and the Married Men at the Logan Square Farmers Market and The [...]

This is the final installment of "All The Bands We Loved Before", where I share with you Coachella "previews" by reminding you about bands we've already written about in blogs past. Weekend 1 of Coachella has concluded. Most acts could be seen live via streaming, and many more could be re-broadcast through Coachella's YouTube channel. This tool has been totally invaluable in helping us decide who to see when we venture out for weekend 2. One of the tough decisions is skipping Arctic Monkeys . Yep. And even though Mookie [...]

Who: Le Butcherettes in the Gobi Tent. In 3 or Fewer Words: Pretty satanic songstresses. Memorable Because: Mexico's garage punk duo-turned-trio (with the help from bassist Jonathan Hischke — of Broken Bells, Dot Hacker) tore the stage up and gave me the heebie-jeebies at the same time, but it was great entertainment from beginning to end. Guitarist/keyboardist and lead vocalist Teri "Gender Bender" Suarez wore a floral sundress, as did her bandmate and drummer Lia Braswell, but there were moments when Suarez seemed like she was going through an exorcism [...]
Well, this is pretty cool. Old Town School of Folk Music instructor Shelly Miller teaches a Women's Rock Ensemble in which adults jam on rock 'n' roll gems from, as the website states, "Heart to Ani, Patti Smith to Alanis," and gives pupils some live performance chops. Recently Miller's lesson plan included a cover of the Le Butcherettes track, "Henry Don't Got Love." The class pretty much nails it in all it's gritty glory, and there's even some bow-on-guitar action. And for Butcherettes fans, the band is coming to the Subterranean on [...]

Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Le Butcherettes Video: 'I'm Getting Sick of You' Highlight: "Being able to to play with Lia and Omar on MTV Iggy has been nothing but a pleasurable experience, wanting nothing more or less to create an understanding of the self," singer/guitarist Teri Gender Bender tells Spinner. "This video, 'I'm Getting Sick of You,' is so special to me because this is a song I wrote in my bedroom when I was 17, in [...]

"i remember being in high school and thinking that the teachers were really lazy. i hid in feminists books, not the anti-men type of books but more of the women's rights type of readings. somewhere i got this idea to make a band that would keep that concept alive. i wanted to talk about the exploitation of women as sex objects and slaves, and that's what le butcherettes does through its music. " teri gender bender " is not what it sounds like, i'm not [...]
