It's time to stop apologizing.

[This will be my final downloads installment of the year. Judging from my backlog of e-mail and mp3s, I'm about 200 posts short of sharing with you all the new stuff that I'd like to. Sigh ... Later this week, a year-end roundup.] The indelible synth-pop of Stephen Becker — d/b/a Le Concorde — was honed by his 15 years in the Midwest, but it took on a whole new shine after he relocated to Los Angeles and released his fourth album "House." It's [...]
Maybe Stephen Becker is who Ween had in mind when they wrote "Dr. Rock." The Le Concorde main man has a Ph.D. in architectural theory, and his brand of '80s-influenced synth pop can definitely be described as brainy. This week, Le Concorde released third album House (Le Grand Magistery), which features Becker collaborating with Scritti [...]

Four months into writing QBiM I posted about Le Concorde , a project from one Stephen Brecker in perhaps one of the daftest posts in our history or one of it's most creative (I'll let you decide after reading it here ). That was way back in 2006, and now four years later, Le Concorde is back with a new record (although to be honest I don't actually know if there's been others in the interim) of nostalgic, dreamy indie pop that hearkens back to the simpler days of the 80s. House [...]

Le Concorde is the brainchild of California singer/songwriter Stephen Becker who left his hometown of Chicago a few years ago for the sun-bleached shores of the West Coast to record his new album.p Titled "House," the record is filled with infectious synth melodies, catchy choruses and shimmering, lo-fi soundscapes that show off Becker's knack for writing timeless pop that shines in simplicity.p Becker likes to describe the album as "brainy, yet accessible."pHis idea was to challenge listeners through his storytelling, to look through the glittery mirror ball and see what's on the other side. [...]

The story of Le Concorde goes something like this. Multi-instrumentalist, Stephen Becker, left his beloved Chicago for the west coast waves, a decision that had a direct impact on his forthcoming LP, House . After self-releasing an EP in 2004, Le Concorde soon became a steady rotation on XM Radio's XMU and was rapidly picked up by NYC's March Records. This led to Villa , an LP released in 2005, followed by Suite in 2007. With his latest dwelling, House , Mr. Becker decided to move away from his lo-fi [...]

by teepoo Le Concorde is a vibrant indie pop band from Los Anglos, California. They are a five piece group the consists of Stephen Becker (vocals, guitars, synthesizers, harmonica, drum programming), Matt Espy (drums, percussion), Casey Gibbs (synthesizers), Alison Hinderliter (piano/electric piano), Brian Stout (bass/harmony vocals). Sure they sorta can be considered synth-pop but you won't feel like you're stuck in the 80s, everything they do sounds very modern. Their new album House will be available everywhere October, 26th 2010 . [...]
Le Concorde is the dance-oriented indie project from Stephen Becker, a Chicago native transplanted on the west coast. His latest album is House and has spawned some fantastic tracks. Case in point, check out "The Movement of Cherry Blossom Shadows": Le Concorde's website Le Concorde's Myspace

With everyone going to or coming from CMJ in New York, the IA region has a ton of shows coming through the area. Not many multiple city stops to tell you about, but plenty of local and one-off shows. Toronto's Born Ruffians is one of the bands making multiple stops. They are on tour with fellow Canadians Plants & Animals . Friday, they take on DC at the Rock & Roll Hotel. For the remainder of the weekend, sBach joins the [...]

All week long I've been anxiously on the lookout for the magic moment when the SXSW Music and Media Conference posts its list of artist bios and mp3s for this year's festival, which runs in Austin, Texas, from March 11-16. I've just spent seven hours poring over the list and compiled my own list of the 286 artists I liked best. Some of them don't really fit here, but I've got a hunch you're going

Not even sure what that means since we love both bands, but with Le Concorde's release of Suite last month at least the initial comparisons to Phoenix are warranted. Get a few listens in and you'll find plenty of differences but a shared appreciation for the earnest pop harmonies available only to those with the courage to croon. And like a dumbass I thought Le Concorde's multi-instrumentalist Stephen Becker, Ph.D was a fellow Frenchman (also once told Kevin Barnes "for some reason I thought Of Montreal were Canadian"). But Le Concorde rock the harmonica [...]

1. The Physics of Meaning - Small Towns and Invisible People - This opens like early-era Deathcab so I'm hooked. "Down at Columbia and Cameron" was one of my favorite songs of 2005, but I hadn't heard this gem til last week. A little Weakerthans-esque as well. [from The Physics of Meaning | buy ] 2. Le Concorde - Parallel Lines - With a name like Le Concorde and a sound straight out of classic 70's pop, I thought they were French. Chicago, IL puts [...]
