Last night, Ireland got its first, long overdue spotlight on music video directors of this country at the IMTV Video Music Awards . The inaugural event saw Eoghan Kidney win three awards including Best video for Valerie Francis' Punches, Best Director and Best Original Concept. It was a great night, a celebration of the creativity of largely under-resourced folk and a timely reminder that Irish music videos are as vital as ever, which is something we are finally seeing again with Under the Ether and Una Mullally's forthcoming TG4 series in 2010. Most importantly, [...]

Tonight sees the Le Galaxie boys headline Whelan's after the match so let's hope it's a celebration rather than a damp desolate heart-crushingly ball-numbing result we'd rather forget. Either way, Le Galaxie will be bringing their own 'Victory' and joining them from 10.30pm tonight will be The Ambience Affair and Neosupervital so it's a great show all round. Intergalactic , the weekly dance/indie night happens afterwards too. Admission is €10. Le Galaxie have recently recorded a new single called 'Victory' and were kind enough to allow us to host it right [...]

There's something to cheer about for the following Irish artists to have a nomination for the Irish Music Television awards to take place in The Sugar Club on Friday November 27th. The best thing about this for me is that I never heard of the website before and have had a chance to check out some cool videos from Irish Artists. It's very much weighted towards the alternative genre but I'm delighted for acts such as Sean Needham, Miss Paula FLynn and Enda Reilly to have been included. 1.BEST LIVE VIDEO LISA HANNIGAN [...]

I had never been to Castlepalooza before. It always fell on the same weekend as the electronic-focused Mantua festival which I always had a brilliant, if slightly debauched time at. So what did I think? Some good, some bad. Here goes.. There were some proper musical highlights - David Kitt's main stage closing set on Saturday ('Into the Breeze' is an Irish classic or deserves to be by this stage), The Ambience Affair , The Holy Roman Army (swelled to five people onstage at points), Channel [...]
Le Galaxie have been burgled and are now broke, but The Funeral Suits, Grand Pocket Orchestra and YOU can help. In their own words: "Last week one of the lads' apartment was broken into and all our band money which we have saved and saved for ages was taken. This money was to be used to pay off our recording, duplication and PR costs and now we have absolutely nothing. Frowny-emoticon! We are having a fundraiser on July 1st in Whelans and [...]

Past Ruby Tuesday band Van Cleef have confirmed supports for the album launch in The Village on Friday 29th May: The singin' and a strummin' songstress Sarah Gleeson and wild n' raucous garage rock Mighty Atomics. If that's not a reason to show up early, I don't know what is. A review of said album is due on the blog next week. Check them both out on: www.myspace.com/themightyatomi cs www.myspace.com/sarahgleesonmu sic The brilliant Joy [...]

Le Galaxie release their debut EP Transworld , on Friday May 15th 2009 on Battlepulse Records. The EP follows on from the 2008 single releases 'We Bleed The Blood Of Androids' and 'You Feel the Fire!' It features four tracks, 'Transworld', 'Beyond Transworld', 'The Fury' and 'Equalizers'. According to the band, they took to the Le Galaxie sonic laboratory, donned their white coats, pushed up their spectacles, pulled down their visors and built these tunes like a huge wall of Tetris. As you do. The band will be playing the following gigs over the summer... [...]
The Academy was worryingly empty when at little before 8pm support act Le Galaxie arrived onstage. The band took the absence of an audience in their stride however, and treated the few present to new tracks from their upcoming EP. Synth-tastic noise their weapon of choice, this Dublin based band would be worth a listen in a more appreciative setting. Second support act were fellow Choice Music Prize nominees Halfset , who even though their dreamy, instrumental compositions were performed to a more extensive crowd, didn't garner all that much more attention. Carefully crafted tracks such as [...]
