After a couple weeks with few releases of note, it seems that the fall lineup of great music started this week. The big names are coming out in full force and they're getting ready to bankrupt you. We even have some great releases from bands in our region. Of course, everybody is touring in support of these releases, so we have a ton of regional dates. Sit back and enjoy, this is going to be a long one. AVEC My pick for this week's top release, would [...]

Each week we take a listen to some of the top songs from elbows, review them and then give our selection of alternative tracks that we believe should be getting more recognition Aesop Rock "Citronella" We have been raving about the density and overall impeccable quality of this album here at quarterlife and I must say I am surprised to see a song off of the album on top of the blogs that is not "None Shall Pass" or "Back to Pluto". It speaks for well for [...]
Le Loup - We Are Gods! We Are Wolves! It's finally getting a little cooler here in Los Angeles. I mean that in reference to the temperature, since I don't ever see it getting "cooler" in LA. Our dirty little secret is that we're not cool at all. But regardless, it's just about hoodie weather again, which is ideal. After about two or three months of being hot and beautiful, LA spends the next nine being the perfect last night of the summer. That night were you drive around and make some mistakes and maybe bump into a friend or...

Le Loup - The Throne Of The Third Heaven Of The Nations' Millennium General Assembly (Hardly Art) review by Alex Ruder Discussing the debut record from DC-based collective Le Loup is not a simple affair. First off, it's a remarkably strong album that proves both complex and catchy, boasting an ambitious conceptual narrative, apocalyptic imagery, swelling melodies, and an eccentric compositional approach. Yet it's an even more intriguing story. So let's start from the beginning. Le Loup (French for "The Wolf") began as [...]

Hey everybody! First of all, let me apologize for not putting up a podcast on Saturday. I intended to put a show together, but once I got home on Friday and settled in from work I just couldn't shake the sleepiness off enough to get it done. I sincerely hope the absence of my voice in your head didn't bother you any. Now, in order to share the music that was suppose to be in the podcast I have an EP today. Enjoy. BTW, did any of you [...]

MP3: The Most Serene Republic Oh (God) [ indiechristoph. favorite] I know I just posted a Most Serene Republic track a week or so ago, but I can't deny the awesomeness of this one I've found--it's one of my favorite finds of the year, no joke. It starts out all quiet, and then the snare pops in, and then Adrian Jewett starts murmuring word after word, which are somewhat indistinguishable, but beautiful nonetheless. At first, nothing special. But look here guys--the real [...]

Props to Shameless Complacency for turning me on to (the AiH -esque goodness of) Le Loup ... here . I assume the band name is not a reference to Denis Leloup . And now, the mp3: "We Are Gods! We Are Wolves!" (mp3) Myspace page is here . Hardly Art page is here . More Le Loup at MOKB ... here , and Ashley Plath ... here ). Consider Clicking - Dig the new [...]

DOWNLOAD: Le Loup - We are Gods! We are Wolves! (MP3) Washington DC band Le Loup have everything going for them - good looks, good songs, good press, (and according to many I've talked to who've seen them,) an awesome live show, AND they're signed to Hardly Art - a label started earlier this year by Sub Pop. They've also got two upcoming NYC shows - one tomorrow night (Sept 7) at Pianos , and one on October [...]

The fun thing about doing this blog is having a new favorite band each week. This week it's far and away The Dodos and Le Loup . I've already talked about The Dodos, so we'll move on... Le Loup is a seven-piece from Washington, D.C. and are the winners of the 2007 Most Annoying Album Title and Song Titles of 2007. It's entitled [...]

"While the world stood still around us, we drove dreaming, lost and found again." Le Loup ~ Outside This Car, The End Of The World! from The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millenium General Assembly by Le Loup Thanks for reading my blog! xoxo, asley

First, Le Loup means "wolf" in French. Second, wolf isn't solitary, live in packs. Le Loup is something like a pack but the pack of great musicians with leader Sam Simkoff . Seven band members and motley instruments like Arcade Fire . But not canadian they came from Washington, DC. When I'm listening Le Loup I always feel fresh and relaxed 'cause their music is soulful, calm, silent, fragile, sooth and has specific atmospheric. I like their combination of banjo line with other instruments [...]

Le Loup has both the fortune and misfortune of being described by many people (bloggers, PR people, journalists, fans, etc) as "Washington D.C.'s Arcade Fire." While it does perk the ears up a bit, it simultaneously sends the eyes a'rollin'. Let's take a look at some similarities. Le Loup has at least seven members, they're known around the D.C. area for their spectacular live performances, they're fucking Canadian, and they're music...well, that's where the comparison breaks down. Don't expect Le Loup to sound anything like Arcade Fire. They don't...at all. [...]

Earlier this year I caught wind of a great young band from the D.C. area called Jukebox the Ghost. The band quickly caught my attention with a great performance at Piano's and an excellent EP release. Well Jukebox recently opened my eyes to another D.C. band called Le Loup, proving the power of a good word of mouth campaign. Le Loup features eight members, all of whom sing and play a variety of instruments that feed off of each other and work together to create a sound larger than any one of them could have made alone. Because [...]
The sweet 'n' safe harmonies of Eagles' relatively well liked latest gets a black & white video (no color = the best makeup money can buy). Our fearless bird men traverse Tatooine-styled desert dunes and come upon a most glorious surprise: a stripped hangar equipped with instruments meant for rockin'! And later, the action takes us to a campfire with just the guys and their guitars. If you think it's all sorta boring, don't feel bad -- they don't look too thrilled either.
The Fiery Furnaces have a new label home, Thrill Jockey, and a new album to celebrate the move. Widow City arrives October 9th and boasts 16 tracks! Including this catchy and then throbbing ditty, "Ex-Guru", which, as always, is sweetened by the unmistakable vocal charisma of Eleanor Friedberger. And I love the little Beatles melody thrown in on the line "... I tell myself that everyday". But I warn you... don't crank the volume because when that synthesizer storm hits, you just may blow a tweeter, or a woofer. Also, you won't hear it on [...]
