In August, I admitted budgetary defeat and greatly limited my purchasing. So there are only four vinyl finds this month. A roadtrip south to Mississippi Records this month and a special column coming soon, I hope, make up for that. 1. Le Sang Song - s /t Where: Sonic Boom (Capitol Hill) How Much: $7.99 (and 25% off) [...]
Gold Leaves ::: photo by Josh Lovseth ... and you've still got an awesome weekend of music waiting for you. Here's what I'd be seeing if I was gonna be in town this weekend. Including two shows it physically pains me to miss Friday: Gold Leaves at the Mural Amphitheater in the shadow of the [...]

Damien Jurado ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Our big, written properly, not just a list of The Top 25 Northwest Albums of 2010 is coming soon, really, WE PROMISE. But today I wanted to share my personal favorites of 2010. Also, my number one most listened to local album of 2010 was basically a "Best [...]
Sharon Van Etten "Love More" ::: photo by Josh Lovseth If my 2010 was a mix tape (or a couple mix tapes as it were), these would be the tracks. These were the songs that were my most frequent and adored companions of 2010. They're the songs I'll know the words to for the rest of [...]
Jared Mees and the Grown Children ::: photo by Josh Lovseth This is for those of you that requested a return of "An Invitation to Abbey's Listening" and those of you who want to know what I'm listening to that might not make it on to the blog. You can count on this list being up [...]

Here is our usual end of the month round up of the very best tracks posted on Mad Mackerel, with a couple of new ones too. A perfect mixtape for May. Wilderness of Manitoba – Hermit mp3 Intimate and gorgeous, with haunting guitar lines and beautiful harmonies. Buffalo Moon – Beach Boy mp3 Summery pop, beach references, breezy beats and sweet lounge vocals. Sun Kil Moon – Australian Winter mp3 Sparse, bleak and mesmerising. Lille – [...]

Their self-titled album was actually recorded in 2007, but only got a limited release at the start of this year. Gingerella is a case in point. It is right up MM's street - oppressive and skittery on the one hand, but underpinned by a hypnotic groove and a frugal, tense guitar line that determinedly burrows its way into your head. [...]
Another one from Seattle: Le Sang Song is the low key solo vehicle of Craig Chambers who is also in the Lights (new album from them due out latter this month) and Love Tan . Apparently the record has been in the can for a couple years gathering dust. Min Yee of the A-Frames and AFCGT decided it was too good to not get released so he resurrected Dragnet Records to put out the record. Recorded on Eric Blood's old 8-track , the [...]
