Leatherbag has everything you could ever want from a rock and roll band: Grungy-riffs, a garag- band mentality, break-neck bass lines, a drummer who knows the importance of being loud, and a singer who stands out from the crowd. They're the genre bouncing, hard working, here to have a good time band you've been waiting for. Luckily, they keep cranking out tunes. "Making Waves" was recently posted to Leatherbag's website along with five other tracks. The only hint to their purpose were the words "New Tracks!" lingering above them. Are these from an upcoming [...]

So, by this point in time, Free Week in Austin is upon us, and I hope you're all out there enjoying the great local music our fair city has to offer. There's too many great shows and great bands to hit up, so I'm going to try and help out by suggesting the big hitters every day. The following list is for tomorrow night, that way you can plan accordingly: The Midgetmen (10:30) @ Red 7 - Good old rock n' roll from a band who've been banging it out for [...]
Thursday, December 15, 2011 I cover local music for SOTO, so my end of the year-end list is Austin-focused (with a few exceptions). These are the artists I listened to the most, saw in concert multiple times, and was excited to recommend to friends. There's no special order or ranking here. They are simply the Texas bands that made me a little happier this year. Jennifer's Year-End List Leatherbag: This summer, Leatherbag released a musical 1-2 punch with their Yellow Television [...]
Oh man, is 2011 over already? It is indeed, which means End of Year list time! Of course, that means it's time for you to tell us where we went wrong, but on this list, we're thinking we got it pretty right on. You'll notice we expanded our list to a Top 15 of Texas Artists, as we thought our state did a great job, musically (not politically) speaking this year. I'll admit, it might be a little Austin-centric, but we're based in the town, so get word a lot faster. Apologies to Houston and San Antonio, as your scenes [...]

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars In the aftermath of Hurricane Rita, back in 2005, lead singer Randy Reynolds relocated to our great city of Austin. Lucky for us he did, because after this, he formed the American Rock band known as Leatherbag . Six years, various changes in the band and multiple albums, later, the band consists of three members: Reynolds, Drew Emmons, and Daniel Blanchard. Together, they craft a classic rock record in Yellow Television , which reflects on the general current state [...]

Date Thursday, July 28th Location Skinny's Ballroom Doors 1000p Tickets Super Cheap What !?! You haven't caught wind of the phenomenal Leatherbag yet? Well dear Austinites, it's time to pull your head out from beneath those rocks and get on it. The band will be hitting up Skinny's Ballroom this Thursday night in honor of the release of their latest [...]

So far only the local music blog Side One Track One ( here ) has written about the new release from Austin underground stalworts Leatherbag . But this release deserves to bring Leatherbag out of the (self-imposed) corner they've been hiding in. "Imitation Generation" off the new full length Yellow Television takes a shot at high tech culture and disposable music while at the same time wryly coping a Stones sound. While "We're Broke" off the companion ep espouses the freedom of being broke. [...]

Tweet Leatherbag has been rocking the Buddy Holly vibe since 2005, in their own continuation of the "New Sincerity" movement from the 902s indie scene in Austin, Texas. It involved artists in different media expressing themselves in an ironically carefree way, with absolute "sincerity". To get a quick idea of Leatherbag's take on it, think Ramones -style raucous jams: essentially pointless subject matter and rollicking fun music. How does "old" rock n' roll still sound cool in the year 2011? [...]

Tuesday, July 19, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Not much worth getting out for tonight, but there are some nice shows going down tomorrow. Wooden Birds are at the Mohawk, Eels and the Submarines are playing Stubbs outside early, and then My Education will follow them up inside. Leatherbag has been a highlight of the the local scene for years, but that's not why you should pay attention to the LP and EP they're about to put out. Nope, you should do [...]

Austin boys Leatherbag are one of those bands that are highly underrated in this town, yet somehow seem to be on the verge of blowing up any second. Hell, after some searching, it seems as though we ATH geniuses have never posted music by the band. Derp. Well this hard working Austin band recently released new LP Yellow Television AND new EP Patience just last week. Below you can find lead single from the full length entitled "Imitation Generation" for your enjoyment. I think it will show you that we've been missing the boat [...]

March 17, 2011 2115 Allred Rd Austin, TX, 78748 3:00-midnight Sam's Town Point in Austin launched SXSTP ... get it??? ... 3-4 years ago as an alternative to SXSW. And while that is certainly true, Sam's is an alternative to pretty much everything, including reality. I've written about Sam's before (both here and here ) and trust me, the legends probably understate STP's many charms. Wally Grossman bills his establishment as"the friendliest little bar in Texas," but that's not entirely accurate. Really, it's [...]
Monday, December 13, 2010 I cover local music for Side One: Track One so my year end list is comprised solely of Austin bands. Your list of the top 10 albums of 2010 probably differs quite a bit from mine and that's the way it should be. These are the bands I was most excited about, went to see in concert, the groups I listen to the most and the albums I encouraged others to check out. Let me know if you think I made any major omissions: [...]

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 I love covering the Austin music scene for Side One: Track One because let's face it, who doesn't enjoy discovering new and upcoming bands? Yet sometimes I'm compelled to write about bands I've admired for a while. One of those bands is Leatherbag. Each year and with each release the group gets better and better, and it's only a matter of time before the bandwagon is packed ... so reserve your seat now. The group is fronted [...]

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 I've posted about Leatherbag countless times here in the past few years. And I assure you, it's not been without good reason: For better or for worse, I've tried to take up the good fight of calling attention to music that's honest and well-crafted, while exposing music that panders to cheap nostalgia and cheap weekly-trends. Leatherbag has consistently fallen into the former category, especially after the release of Love & Harm in 2007. Now Leatherbag is prepping a new album for the catalog that [...]

High time we aired some new sounds here again. All tracks below were either recently released or will be very soon. Featuring some new kids on the block, some relatively old hands and even one living legend-ah. Here goes. If you like moving around in Will Oldham and Joanna Newsom territory, better check out Uncles. This fresh duo from Queens, New York will release their Replacing Words With Other Words sometime next month, and taster Settler´s Song really soars. Promising is definitely the word here. [...]
