I've been curious for a while about when kraut-rock disciples Led Er Est would unleash another throbbing blast of darkness on my world, and I'm happy to say - right now. "Lonesome XOXO" feels like the soundtrack to a Dario Argento film set in space. It's one part snaky bass-line, one part fear-based propulson, with [...]

Brooklyn minimal synth trio Led Er Est have a great new six-song EP called May out now on Captured Tracks . A new full-length should be out this year on Sacred Bones. Order May 123 here , check out Professor Genius' remix of 'Madi la Lune' here , and HERE's the opening track from May : Lonesome XOXO Led Er Est Com .

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Led Er Est is a cold wave / post-punk band formed in early 2007 by Samuel Kklovenhoof and Shawn NoEQ. Drawing from the dire, aggressive textures of first-wave industrial music, the craftsmanship and ambience of cold wave and post-punk, and the primal kineticism of old school house and techno, the project was initially more of an outlet for song fragments and delirious baubles. As their sound took a more structured turn towards the end of 2007, Owen Stokes was recruited to add an additional synth to the minimal electronic arsenal. [...]

You probably won't hear a record like that using guitars that is this good ever in your life I bet, The Sight Below marries devastation with beautiful at a syrupy tempo, a must have for late night no talking get togethers. A new album from Eluvium is always welcomed with open arms by my ears, here's a short and fluttery piano piece by the highly talented artist, also make sure to pick the LP for the vocal material as well. Kaito 's makes trance okay to listen to because [...]
The later part of last year saw a resurgence of what 'they' are now calling Minimal Synth or (even) Coldwave, but which I would really just call SynthPop. I guess it's SynthPop inspired by the late 70's/early 80's pioneers of the genre rather than the mid 80's chart toppers, if you wanted to be really picky I'd call it Futurist music, but whatever, scenes do love their genre names so Minimal Synth it is! Led Er Est hailing from Brooklyn are one of the leaders of the pack, signed to scene leaders Wierd Records [...]

I've put together a mix of various minimal and cold wave, synth punk, some old some new, a lot of which has been covered endlessly by 20JFG . Regardless, in keeping the current revivalist spirit this type of anemic, eastern blockist, psuedo-fascist dance music is sounding hyper fresh, at least for the next coupla months. It's a very specific sound, with an unforgiving, axiomatic stance that can get old quick. But it's also a type of wild posturing whose freedom lies in it's restrictions. Frowns welcome. Câlin - [...]
Brilliant, nervy synth-punk from Brooklyn's Led er Est that will make your eye twitch with dystopian satisfaction: {MP3} Led Er Est – "Laredo" Their album is out now on Wierd Records. (via xxjfg)
Figures hits with Ian Curtis pronouncements from out of the fresh dusty rubble: the lazy work of laser equipped, nihilistic shock troop. Marching marching ever on through the ruinous concrete follies of Superpowers. Empty shells, empty windows, illuminated by the lattice of those oscillating death rays. Automatic. Figures hits with simple synthetic melodies running up and [...]

Gnome – Slow Side The Raveonettes [...]
Mere weeks ago, Brooklyn-based band Led Er Est released their debut album, Dust on Common , via Wierd Records . Clocking in at nine short, but sweet tracks of disco/minimal synth bliss, this record is easily my favorite release of 2009. Every track is absolutely killer, including the Italo-laced " Port Isabel ," the fast and furious "Unkept Area," and the slow, melodic crawl of " CC Exit ." The band have just unveiled a video for "Laredo," yet another solid standout and testament to Dust on Common' s perfection. The video [...]
Led er Est, and I can't imagine they'd be happy I'm saying this (but seriously folks, I'm saying it in good humor), feels a little bit to me like music you'd play at your synth-happy seven year old's birthday party in the 1980s. Not that this synth-y bit of jam isn't dark and brooding in [...]

The minimal synth / cold wave tide spreads ever further through the cracked streets of Brooklyn and Led Er Est have fought the nihilistic fight alongside Silk Flowers, Blank Dogs and the rest of the pack. Now the band has both an LP out on the venerable Weird Records ( Dust on Common ) and a 7" on Captured Tracks to wave this dominance high. The album bounces on thick cuts of analog buzz and the icy detachment that have made the 09 resurgence of 80's cold wave so appealing of late. Acerbic and yet still tuneful enough to draw [...]
Montreal-based Automelodi returned to the dark dungeon of Home Sweet Home last night for a highly anticipated midnight performance. Last time they played the weekly Wierd Wednesday soiree, they had just dropped Fait Ses Courses , a slim and powerful package of nouveau-wave that still sounds as exciting as the moment it was unveiled . The three-piece swayed and swaggered on the thin wooden stage, combining drum machines and live percussion with catchy guitar hooks, dirty synthesizers, tambourines, and sensual French vocals for a perfectly dark, passionate, and most importantly, dance-worthy set. Though [...]
Last time I checked in with minimal experimentalists Led Er Est , I wasn't wild about their performance, but knew, with that glint in each member's eye, that there was something special about them; that some rare talent and unique sound lay ripe for awakening. Well, last night, almost a year after I was first exposed to the band, everything clicked in its right place for a display of rare synthetic bliss. This particular performance precedes the anticipated release of the band's debut LP, Dust on Common , due out on Wierd Records this [...]

One of the longest running weekly parties in New York City, Wierd Records hosts the best in industrial, dark, cold and limit-pushing music at, of course, the Wierd Party. The party began as a small group of friends spinning records weekly in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, but quickly found itself roaming around to different venues for a few years until finally settling at Home Sweet Home (literally) in the LES. Now celebrating it's fifth year in operation, this Friday sees The Music Hall of Williamsburg being taken over by Wierd, with performances from Blacklist (one [...]
