Sometimes it takes the right track for an artist to click with you. For me and Philadelphia spitter Ryshon Jones, it was "40 Pills". The Lee Bannon -produced joint features just the right amount of paranoid raps and trippy instrumentation, turning it into a sort of psychedelic-rap anthem. Not only that, but it's got a grainy, schizophrenic video to go with it that you can peep below. If you, too, are getting stuck on "40 Pills", you should check out Jones' Basqui mixtape here . The Basqui tape from Ryshon Jones wasn't exactly happy go lucky. Instead of upbeat or radio-friendly tunes, the Philly poet prescribed listeners with a dosage of lyrical dreariness that left [...]

A week of debuts, 2 weeks of Coachella, Record Store Day is less than a week away and a whole lotta pop from this week to share. It is all here for your listening and viewing pleasure in no particular order. First grab a look at Ty Segall with Tim Presley as White Fence perfoming "Scissor People" at Room 205 bathed in the static technicolor light from photo-negative images of this same perfomance projected on themselves. The song heralds from their upcoming album Hair and here you can...

New music from D'Lorin "About Me" featuring Casey Veggies & produced by Lee Bannon, off his upcoming Still Life project.

D'Lorin is another youngin out of Cali and he introduces himself via "About Me", a new joint featuring Casey Veggies and production from Lee Bannon. D'Lorin has definitely aligned himself with some good people on this one, and it sounds proper. This is off his forthcoming Still Life . Grab it below.

You might have heard of Lee Bannon thanks to his work with an impressive list of hip hoppers, with the likes of Talib Kweli, Inspectah Deck, Curren$y and Saigon all gracing a beat or two for Lee. But the Sacramento producer has gone down a slightly different path for the first tune from his newest project, Caligula Theme Music . Lee employ a more atmospheric style on 'Kings & Stones', toning down the boom-bap and shooting for a more Burial-esque beat style. You can check 'Kings & [...]

New track from Lee Bannon "Kings & Stones", off his upcoming EP Caligula Theme Music dropping Wednesday on spin.com .
Evan Nabavian is considering taking a job in plastics. A man claiming to be recording himself taking a dump with his iPod screams, "I got video chat on this muthafuckaaa! I got a million games on this muthafuckaaa!" right before the song abruptly switches to an antiquated infomercial about the Internet. The distorted clips and electronic squawks muddy what would have been a pleasantly lazy jazz loop. That's track 3, "Phone Drone," on producer Lee Bannon's new album Fantastic Plastic , which illustrates the claustrophobia of a modern [...]

Lee Bannon - Fantastic Plastic Plug Research: 2012 The acclaim of the LA beat scene, which took root as a "movement" around '08, has left its aesthetic residue all over beat-smiths from varying genres across the globe. From its inception, I found myself drawn to, yet also very critical of the music being produced. Replacing the older generation's MPCs and SPs with computer programs (i.e., Fruity Loops, Logic and Reason) new producers still accumulated and collage-like sounds, it's just more likely to be a manipulated found noise than say an old [...]
Sacramento producer Lee Bannon is here to continue the Plug Research label's winning streak this week with an eerie, experimental remix of Bilal 's "Who Are You". The remix, released via Soundcloud to hype Bannon's forthcoming Fantastic Plastic , sets Bilal's vocals over some distinctly extraterrestrial soul, with nearly subliminal drums coexisting with big, wide open bass notes, making for a sound I can only describe as "vintage Martian Motown." It's an interesting and original track to be sure, and it serves a dual purpose of getting us pumped up for Bannon's album and reminding the [...]
