Seems like you Spinners love when we put playlists up. Here's another one, but a different genre. My favorite genre, actually. Hope all of you enjoy this as much as we do. Jah bless. Mighty Diamonds - Know Your Culture Delroy Wilson - Take It Easy Israel Vibration - Jah Time Has Come The Immortals - World Without Love Sugar Minott - Hang On Natty Delroy [...]

King Tubby may have been the dub organiser supreme, but Lee Perry wasn't that far behind. So here's Scratch behind that rickety mixing desk of his in the legendary Black Ark studio, with a couple of inventive and - contrary to the album titles - rather laidback tracks from his two tough to find Megaton Dub volumes. Lee Perry - Freedom Dub Lee Perry - Megaton Dub Lee Perry - Big Neck Dub Lee Perry - [...]

I am a brother to dragons and a companion to owls. Job said that, but I sure can relate. I'm southbound tomorrow, looking for some sunshine, but will write the odd post provided there's WiFi on the menu somewhere. As usual, you won't get a christmas ditty out of me, but I do wish you all a feliz navidad . The Mighty Upsetter - Flames Of The Dragon Jack Rose - Song For The Owl Beasts Of Bourbon - Chase The Dragon [...]

As soon as Lee Perry is even mentioned, you know this shit's gonna be all-over-the-place crazy. I would've thought the sensible stylings of Bullion would pull it all together, but judging by the loopy track name, this remix was always going to be very much in the same vein as Mr. Perry's original. Bullion plays around with textures and patterning - tribal rhythms and foreign synths clambering about clashing vocal samples and the kinds of twists a producer like him wouldn't usually take. This is great stuff - most beat-makers go [...]
I'm just over here drawing up some Ivy League Spins stickers for all of you lovely people, and thought I would share what I'm listening to. Here's a short playlist of what's blaring through my headphones. Enjoy: Prince Fatty - Bedroom Eyes Dub (ft. Natty) Prince Fatty - Need It (ft. Little Roy) Hugh Roy - Flashing My Whip [...]
NPR's fantastic The Record blog brought my attention to the Dub Invasion Festival, which just wrapped up what was surely a Kingston-tastic 10 days in Boston and New York. Among the attendees were legendary pioneers of dub Lee "Scratch" Perry, who co-produced many of Bob Marley's most groundbreaking tracks, along with Adrian Sherwood, Mad Professor, and Dubblestandart. Dub music was so named because innovative Jamaican studio technicians and producers would manipulate or "dub" pre-existing master tapes so that the bass and drum sections, along with intermittent snippets of vocals, horns, and keyboard parts, would disproportionately characterize [...]

While 2011 has already proved to be a great year for new music, at the same time I've been a little surprised at the lack of solid remixes. With a couple new Radiohead remixes on the way though, and this new one from reggae legend Lee "Scratch" Perry of Gang Gang Dance's "Mindkilla" arriving today, it appears as if we still have plenty to look forward to. This "Mindkilla" remix is definitely one of the best I can recall in recent memory though, with Perry slowing down the original melody and completely turning the track on its head with his [...]
, and the good news just keeps ...
The most creative and hardest working guy in Britain, Ferry Gouw, has turned the characters he developed for Major Lazer into actual proper characters for a Cartoon Network show.

The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee Scratch Perry is the result of seven years of Lee Perry digging by directors Ethan Higbee, Adam Bhala Lough, who speak now about Lee's true spirit and his love for burning things and National Enquirer's brand of gossip—especially when it involves Britney Spears. This interview by Lainna Fader. I know you screened several different versions of the film before settling on the version screening at the Downtown Independent. How did you know when you had something that truly captured Lee's spirit? [...]

Just another Wild Weekend , and the beat goes on. Here's edition #51, bringing you rock from Detroit, lofi psychedelica from Brooklyn and roots reggae from the island. And we dig up the unjustly forgotten Jerry Riopelle. Get wild or get even. Saint Julian Cope's been busy again, this time compiling an inspiring 38 song list - with fitting over the top commentary of course - of Electrifying Edisonian Rock 'n' Roll from sixties and seventies Detroit. Which doesn't omit certified greats like the Stooges and the [...]

The pop wizard drew from a new genre for the album: metal. Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

For 364 days a year this blog is dedicated to music I love, artists that need to be heard, and songs to make you sing/dance/cry/make love (delete as the mood fits)... However Christmas Day is a very very special day. Its a day when we listen to music we'd rather die than hear for the other 364 days. Nevertheless I've hunted high and low (ie, blew some dust off the CD rack) to find a few truly great xmas tracks (and some others that at least don't make you want to put those lovely new socks over [...]

Presenting: Aleister X. His name is a nod to the world's most popular Satanist, and he was discovered and brought to Lee 'Scratch' Perry by Andrew WK (who is also his best friend). Sounds like fun huh?
