The Law Of Diminishing Returns: The tendency for a continuing application of effort or skill toward a particular project or goal to decline in effectiveness after a certain level of result has been achieved. True. I crowned the last Black Keys album, Brothers , the best album of 2010 . I also talked about how proud of myself I was for sticking with a band even though they'd gone on a run of music that I wasn't too fond of. Turns out I may have jumped the gun on the [...]
Lost My Mind Giving Tree Left Lane Cruiser's Junkyard Speedball is the one whiskey shot short of full on rage. The Fort Wayne, Indiana blues rock band made one of the filthiest, grimey, dusty blues rock albums I've heard. The aptly titled, Junkyard Speedball, lifts off with raging stomper 'Lost My Mind' which is a visceral hard hitting, loose and fast track that sounds like it could be the music for a high speed chase scene and sets the tone for the entire album. Junkyard Speedball moves on [...]

Reading reviews for the new LLC while waiting for the mailman to drop Junkyard Speed Ball in my lucky mailbox, was an interesting exercise. It seems there's a lot of weaktitsuckingscaredycatpussyb abies out there who think Ft. Wayne's sky is falling because LLC is stretching out their legs and junque. I tell you what, haters and hiney biters, y'all need to bust back into yr mama's L7 where it's safe, cozy, and cuddly, where nobody challenges yr earholes perceptions of what rocks and what doesn't. Go back to your darling early White Stripes albums where King [...]
Joe Evans and Brenn Beck once again deliver some serious, straight up, raw and bluesy rock and roll in their latest release.

In the four years I've been covering Fort Wayne, Indiana's Left Lane Cruiser they've always been one of those bands that the 11 on your volume knob was made for. Hell, when saw them at the final Deep Blues Festival I watched Brenn (drummer) break his finger on the edge of his snare drum and instead of quitting (or even stopping) like a sane person might, he just drummed with one hand whilst taping his drumstick to the injured hand with his mouth. I guess what I'm trying to say is that these guys have always been one of those [...]

Here we are again. A mix of the best tracks we posted in February and a few new ones too. Twenty seven cracking songs to immerse yourself in! Download O'Death – Bugs mp3 (from Outside) Echoes of their ramshackle and punkish best, but this time it is cocooned in something more subtle and thoughtful too. Download The Whalers – That Rabbit mp3 (from How The Ship Goes Down) Playing a wonderfully straightforward blend of thudding, bass-heavy rock that makes us think of QotSA melded with [...]
Giving Tree This might be the most filthy, greaseball, gritty, blues rock I've come across since early Black Keys' stuff. Left Lane Cruiser will soon be releasing their upcoming album, Junkyard Speed Ball. A name befitting of the dirt road, junky music they are releasing. It's exciting stuff that I think I'd listen to while driving the General Lee. Left Lane Cruiser's Junkyard Speed Ball comes out March 1st on Alive Naturalsound records .

Fort Wayne's fave greasy-fingered duo, Left Lane Cruiser , is back with their latest offering, Junkyard Speed Ball . Recorded in Detroit by the nearing-legendary Jim Diamond, the record's first single, Giving Tree , is bound to give some longtime fans agida . Seems the duo's manic turkey-on-meth-in-the-straw M.O. has been replaced in spots by down-low blues that can only be described as a tad more gutshot than their typical fare. Glad to report that this gamble pays off in spades, thanks at least in part to the [...]

Ferocious trash-blues stompers Left Lane Cruiser will release their new album, Junkyard Speed Ball on Alive Records on 1st March. It will be out on CD, limited vinyl, and digital formats. Formed by Freddy J. Evans IV (guitar/vocals) and Brenn "Sausage Paw" Beck (drummer/percussion/vocals) they effortlessly mix southern-fried blues, garage, and brutal punk riffs into one glorious whiskey and gasoline soaked whole. The album is three weeks away so for now you can content yourself with the visceral power and hypnotic, deep-blues groove of Giving Tree in all [...]

It's almost that time of year again... that's right, Thanksgiving is just around the corner with the rest of the holiday season following hot on its heels. It's good to be back to regular posts just in time for the holidays. Food, family, friends, and drinks. So, last year I posted an awesome roast turkey recipe , and this year I wanted to post my mom's vegan pumpkin pie recipe, but I have no idea where it is. So here is one of my other favorite pie recipes (courtesy of my mother)... and some songs. Heck, [...]
All the shows that you don't want to miss this weekend

This week has seen too many trips to London, weaselling excuses, bitter, bitter defeat in the inaugural Thursday night 5-a-side, and Mrs M getting very stressed with our imminent new kitchen. Our dog has headed into the "hooligans" block at the kennels, and a long trip up North to the in-laws beckons. So in honour of the above let's go with Left Lane Cruiser's wonderful riff-filled southern stomper and the much missed Silver Jews with one of the best songs of 2008 from Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea . [...]

Before Bonnaroo , before Pitchfork , before SXSW , and before just about every other festival, will be the Pit Stop Music Marathon in wonderful Bloomington, IN! All the fun starts on Saturday, March 6 and ends on Saturday, March 13 with a show from Bloomington (and Louisville) natives Muder By Death . Which, if you are already in town for The Magnetic Fields show on March 5 (which you should be), [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: The Black Keys, R.L. Burnside, Black Diamond Heavies Download audio file (Crackalacka.mp3) What's so good? Grab your whiskey and get ready to rage. I've never heard a more powerful and gritty blues rock duo than these guys. Left Lane Cruiser is a two man outfit out of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. They're a couple of thrashers that can play the hell out of some [...]
