‘River Avon’ isn’t a cheesy pop, instant radio hit that will be stuck in your head throughout the day and possibly for ever more. It’s something much more clever, subtle and warm. Last night Oh! Inverted World descended once again on the Old Queens Head in Angel. It was an awesome night and thanks so much to Left With Pictures , Emit Bloch and Look, Stranger! for coming down. A particular highlight for me had to be Emit leading a singalong to Kelis' 2003 hit 'Milkshake', damn right it's better than yours! Emit Bloch So yeah, he's had a bunch of 5-star reviews calling him “utterly remarkable” (UNCUT), “fresh, vital, uncluttered and brilliant” (THE SUN), and had the likes of Beth Orten and Alan McGee shouting his praises, but Emit Bloch really is the real deal. Yep, we're taking over The Old Queens Head for another night of musical brilliance, good people and drunken dancing. Firestations are immediately familiar to me, in a way - it's through their connections. This duo's members, Mike and Laura, are members also of Whole Schebang, which in turn overlaps significantly with London's premier classically-tinged alt-folk-pop outfit Left With Pictures. Left With Pictures continue with their "In Time"-project, and make one song and a video for every month. The videos are put up on their website at the end of the month, and the songs are given away for free through their mailinglist. At the end of the year, the mailinglist-members will have a full album of 12 "In Time"-songs.
